If you mean on-line as connected to mixer, then that defeats the purpose of off line editing.

With the GLD editor it is just like having the mixer. My GLD is in a touring case and is only unpacked at shows. I need to totally configure it off line between shows.

Same thing for SQ now that it seems to be replacing the GLD.

I can’t unpack the SQ to prepare for every show. I need to bring a USB (and spare) with show files to the gig and load it (before there is even a show network).

Sometimes I think the folks in SQ development don’t actually use the mixers in real situations.

Littlight makes stand alone gooseneck lights. Just place it next to the mixer.

The issue is that Dante is an Audio Transport Protocol. There is nothing in Dante about device control. Dante runs over a tcp/ip network. Yamaha has a device control protocol implemented in their desks and stage boxes to control preamp gain and phantom power.
A&H doesn’t have that for other vendor devices.

Yes, I wish they simply created a new version with a new name so you can keep multiple versions around. SQ-Mixpad13 and SQ-Mixpad14 could coexist.

A&H should realize that an individual may work with multiple desks over several weeks and that they may not own these desks. Each owner may have a policy on updating. I use my desk and one owned by another company. My policy is to NEVER update firmware in advance of an important event. In my case last week it was a high profile college commencement on Thursday morning. Same desk Sunday for another commencement found my colleague with auto updated (even though auto updates turned off) iPad and was forced to update console hours before event. Fortunately he had the update with him as there was no Internet available. This should never happen.

    A&H, fix this!

I am using 3 groups and 2 matrices. Will the routing be carried over too?
I am only using inputs 5-16 and outputs 9-12.

    That’s great. Thanks.

With Dante you can route to two computers running DVS. When I record live, I send the input direct outs to Dante outs.

Best practice is to ALWAYS isolate any output you are sending to someone else!

There are isolation boxes you can buy or, simply use a passive DI in reverse.

Why? The 3rd party may have phantom power turned on for their mic input. Phantom power applied to an output of a mixer may cause distortion or even damage, depending on the specific mixer.

Most cameras or camcorders use local condenser mics. Condensers need phantom power. Video folk may not think of turning off phantom or may not know how.

    Protect your rig from them.

Hmmm, does this mean I could put an S-link card in my SQ5 on stage and using tie lines send the inputs to a GLD at FOH ?

If a used desk is ok, you could likely pick up a GLD80 for about the price of a SQ6.

I just discovered this as well. Auto updating the mix apps is a bad practice.
I don’t have time to update my mixers, all GLD Editors and all show files for this weekend.
I was just checking out the WiFi network before packing up.

A&H, where do I down load the GLD remote for mixer V.1.5? There has to be a way. Not everyone updates everything right away if current is stable and working.

To expand, PAFL audio doesn’t often get to an iPad via wireless. Much too long latency.

Actual hard drives can drop bits if used in real time such as recording. Why? If the buffer is full and the arm with head must move, there is no way to stop the data flow and you get a dropout which sounds like a clocking issue.

Solid state drives or flash memory sticks will work if they are fast enough for writing.

Seems to me I just stretched the window to show more but it has been a while and I may be thinking of another off line editor.

With the ability to put anything anywhere, what constitutes the main layer?

If you are referring to something like “sends on faders”, then yes, a more in your face indication might help. On the LS9 you have a whole bank of buttons blinking to remind you.
