In my opinion if the sq now misses features that you think that you will need to do you job, then the sq isn’t the right board for you.
If you need features of the dlive than you have to buy dlive.
Otherwise the gld is also a good board.
I disagree. FYI, I have 2 GLDs and an SQ.
The SQ is in its infancy. It has had only one firmware update since release. History says that a new design will have substantial capabilities added in in the first few years.
There are many capabilities not yet exploited in the SQ hardware/software.A&H says there will be an update in Q3. I would wait for that before jumping to conclusions.

2018/06/04 at 3:20 pm #71499I hope it is ready soon. I really like the way the GLD editor works. It is almost identical to the mixer.
2018/05/24 at 9:53 pm #71266My guess, since A&H hasnt responded in all the years i have asked for this, is that there is an oversight in the design that prevents doing it. Every other digital mixer they have produced has side chains.
2018/05/15 at 5:08 pm #71026I didnt mean to actually Use the pictures. I was mearly illustrating the selection method.
2018/05/14 at 5:17 pm #70989Perhaps a variant of the Yamaha off line editor with the avatars for vocals, drums, hornes etc?
Could have a list/matrix to choose from for things. Sax, trumpet, bone, egtr agtr, keys, piano….
2018/05/02 at 2:52 am #70753Well, I discovered today that the stereo pairs did restore on the show file load.
I am not sure what I did wrong in my testing yesterday. I really wanted it to work right.
Too bad there wasn’t some drug induced state I could blame. Only perhaps too much coffee.
My apologies.
2018/04/24 at 6:06 pm #70585It is just math. 16 faders per layer times 6 layers for the SQ5. All channels are available to be assigned to somewhere but there are only 96 places on an SQ5 to put them. The SQ6 has more places.
2018/04/21 at 10:56 pm #70532Actually I believe all Yamaha digital desks have side chain. My 01v96 had it and ducking in the gate library.
2018/04/21 at 1:43 am #70528An off line editor and show files are critical. Only having scenes means you cannot configure before a show without taking the desk away from its current job.
I am still grumpy with no side chain compressor on the GLD. Seems they abandoned those customers.2018/04/19 at 2:47 am #70503I bought a gator case from Sweetwater for my SQ5.
It is a GTSAMIX19218 19″x21″x8″ TSA Mixer Case.2018/04/10 at 2:47 am #70275Ok. Thanks. Good points.
2018/04/09 at 12:41 pm #70235Can you expand on that?
Are you saying there is little noice (which would be good)?
Or, there is objectionable nois?
Can you describe the noise?
2018/04/07 at 1:29 am #70174Well, this is a really old thread.
Still no side chain. No ducker. No further development at all
I am pretty much done with A&H .
I got an SQ this week. No ducker again! Even though they have side chain.
I am sending it back.
Gonna go back to Yamaha. Every digital desk has always had ducking. A&H just doesn’t care about us who spend our money with them.
2018/04/07 at 1:07 am #70171Ok, not everything has to be same but consider this. I am replying to you on an iPad. My fingers know where to find things.
After typing cancel 3 times over the past two days when I was looking for a number and then havin* to start over… this is not productive and easily improved.2018/04/07 at 1:03 am #70170I think Go is silly. my GLDs and Yamaha desks say Recall.
On the screen screen there are three or more actions you can take. How does GO mean Recall? If there was a screen with only Recall functions, then perhaps having Go might work. OK is also used often and in several places in the SQ.
I only ask that someone go through all the screens and make sure they are consistent.
