    Hi Harald,

Have you followed the DAW Control Setup Notes available in the Qu-16 page? You should have up to 16 MIDI strips controlling the track Mute, Solo, Sel and fader level without any problem. No need for manual assign.

    Hi,

to play back from the Mac to ST1 you need to route audio to Qu-16 streaming ch 17&18. This is because the first 16 streaming channels go to the Mono Inputs. Most DAWs allow this, but if you are using iTunes or similar, you need to set this as a preference in OS X. Go to Utilities / Audio MIDI Setup / Audio Devices, select the Qu-16 and click on Configure Speakers, then assign stereo Left and Right to ch 17&18.

    Hope this helps.

QU-16 offers a selection of the compression types / algorithms found in our iLive series.

Auto modes automatically adjust the attack and release according to the dynamics of the signal. Punchbag and Slow Opto are modelled over / inspired by two popular analogue units: a modern, transistor-based industry standard and a classic optical-based compressor respectively. The former is often used to add weight to kick drums and bass, the latter is frequently found on vocal chains, but there is no fixed recipe – it is mainly down to mixing style and engineer preference.

For more read up on compressor designs and peak vs. rms sensing you can start from here:

    Thanks for your feedback.

We have now improved scene navigation in V1.2 with more toolbar information of current/next scene, the addition of an Auto-Increment option for the SoftKey ‘Recall Go’ function, and new SoftKey ‘Store Current’ option.

As of V1.2 all mix outputs (including LR) have both the GEQ and 4-band PEQ available.

Qu-Pad channel naming is among the new features in V1.2 firmware released today.

We are definitely here – and pleased to announce Qu-16 V1.2 firmware which takes on board some of the suggestions and requests from the forum.

mervaka is right. A pad is only useful when the signal is too hot.
The max input level on the Qu-16 XLR sockets is +19dBu, which should be enough for both mic and line level signals.
If extra attenuation is needed then the TRS sockets offer +29dBu max input level, effectively an integrated pad.

I’ve moved this into a new topic.

It is possible, provided you follow the file format / naming and folder structure convention as described in this KB article.
Also avoid metadata, timestamp and BWF (broadcast) chunks when rendering the files.

    Hope this helps.

Not really. A channel is sourced from either the XLR/dSNAKE socket or USB. What you are suggesting is an ‘Insert Return from USB’ which is not supported. You can only insert internal FX on a channel.

However you can use plugins over USB B for send-return FX such as reverbs and delays. For example, assign a Mix to USB 19-20 in Setup / Audio / Output Patch, then route the return from your DAW to one of the Stereo channels.

Daisy chaining of xDR expanders is not supported. Both xDR-16s have to connect to Port B ACE in the master iDR MixRack.

thanks GuitarHero, I thought that was referring to the USB hardrive recording not the usb-b streaming

To clarify, the limitations stated above apply to Qu-Drive only. USB B is a 24×22 full-duplex interface, that is, you can record and playback as many channels as you want at the same time.

    A couple of examples:
    – Adding vocals to backing tracks: record drums, bass and gtr into PT, then play back these tracks to Qu-16 whilst recording the vocals (on separate channels) in PT.
    – Adding Qu-16 FX to a PT session: play back your tracks on all channels (1-16 and ST1-3) whilst recording FX returns 1-4 in PT.
    – Mixdown on Qu-16: play back your tracks on all channels (1-16 and ST1-3) and mix whilst recording the main LR in PT.

If you are having trouble with this please check your routing settings in PT.

Make sure you have Issue 2 of the User Guide. You can download it here or from the Qu-16 product page on our main website. Copy/paste are described at page 24:

Press + hold down one of these keys and then press another key or screen item to copy, paste or reset the related parameters. For example:
Copy – Press Copy + a channel Sel key to select its processing to copy. Press Paste + another channel Sel key to paste the processing to that channel.

You can copy just one processing block such as PEQ using its In key and then paste it into other channels using their strip Sel keys.

Reset – Press Reset + a channel Sel to instantly reset its processing to factory default settings.

    The following Copy/Reset is supported:
+ Input strip Sel key = HPF, Gate, PEQ, Comp, Delay
+ Mix strip Sel key = PEQ, GEQ, Comp, Delay
+ HPF In key = HPF only
+ PEQ In key = PEQ only
+ Gate In key = Gate only
+ Comp In key = Compressor only
+ touch Scene item in list = Scene contents

The Scene Next function for SoftKeys is intended to work in conjunction with Scene Previous and Scene Recall Go. If you set these three functions on SoftKeys you can then navigate your scene list and recall at will.

This is similar to using the same SoftKeys functions on GLD. However in GLD you can enable the Auto Increment option which would effectively recall a scene and have the scene after it ready for recall. This is not currently possible with Qu.

    Hope this clarifies.

As a side note, please avoid posting the same question on multiple threads or un-related threads. It doesn’t help other users.

    elphie007,

Scene memories include channel ganging, names and colours, delays, strip assignment, channel processing, FX, preamp and digital source, mutes levels & assignments, option card settings, Softkey and PL assignments, Talkback HPF, patchbays. The actual list may vary slightly depending on firmware version. Have a look at the Edit window in the Editor or Surface Scenes screen for an up-to-date list of parameters and settings.

Show memories include all current parameters, system DSP and control configuration, all 250 Scenes and some user preferences. See list below:

Current Settings – Includes all the current mix parameters, processing parameters, preamp settings, names and colours, patching, effects, clock source, talkback and signal generator settings, and Surface strip assignments.

Mix Configuration – The way the MixRack has been configured. Includes the current mix bus architecture, channel stereo assignments and global direct output source.

User Preferences – Several user options including Scene switch enable, latching Talk switch, LCD value display, linking fader banks.

All Scenes – The names, contents and descriptions of all the Scene memories are stored within the Show. Recalling a Show overwrites the Scene list with the Scenes stored in the Show being recalled.

All Libraries – The user Libraries are stored within the Show. These overwrite the current libraries on recall. Note that the User Libraries can be separately stored to and recalled from USB memory key.

Settings NOT stored in the Show:
    – Network settings
    – Fader / Bank Linking
    – PAFL preferences
    – Temperature units
    – LCD contrast
    – Event Logs
    – Current User
    – User Profiles and passwords

    Hope this helps.
