Hi Dwight, USB recording is fed from the Input channels’ Insert sends – not the Direct Outs. The Insert sends are post preamp and polarity, but pre HPF and processing. You can see this in the block diagram at the end of the User Guide.

This was intended to give engineers the ability to record the dry signal while setting the Direct Outs post-processing for FX or personal monitoring use.

    Hi Colin,

The Mute button is provided on the ‘My Mix’ layer only. I wouldn’t recommend putting channels you use for FoH mixing on this layer. Some people split one or two inputs, typically the main vocal, to a spare channel, so the monitor mix has independent control over the dynamics and eq of that channel. If you use such a split, then your split channels can go into the ‘My Mix’ layer and the Mute wouldn’t affect FoH.

All other channels should really go into the other layers, where the set of permissions is pretty basic and there is no Mute button.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Loren,

Which version have you updated from? We changed the way you route FX outputs in V1.8. Use the Unassign / Fully Unassign buttons to revert an effect to factory default (mix/return, from dedicated FX bus to dedicated FX ‘short’ return). To route the FX to another channel, go to that channel’s preamp screen and select the Rack FX output from the source drop-down list. To route the FX to physical outputs, go to the Outputs screen, select a socket and choose the Rack FX outputs from the source drop-down list.

Also worth checking that you have enough FX buses in your Mixer Pref DSP configuration?

    Hope this helps.

    Hi John,

If you are upgrading your Dante card from V3.4.15, you will need to upgrade to V3.6.4 with Dante Firmware Update Manager V1.3.2 first, then install the latest Dante Firmware Update Manager V1.4.5.7 and upgrade the module to V3.7.0.

Sorry I hadn’t realized this when uploading the new files to the web. I have now amended the Release Notes and put the links to download the old Update Manager back on the site.

Apologies for any inconvenience this has caused and I hope this fixes it.

    Hi Jonny,

Are you using MIDI strips in the Custom Layer, or trying to assign faders of Input Channels?

Input and Mix Channels send / respond to MIDI NRPN messages which many DAWs have difficulties decoding. In V1.2 we introduced new MIDI strips which send / respond to standard MIDI CC messages. You should be able to ‘learn’ these in your DAW without any problem. MIDI strips are described in the updated User Guide.

You can also download the free DAW Control driver which will emulate a HUI or Mackie Control surface. More info here.

    Hi Burkhard,

You say you assigned PAFL to the surface outputs. Have you tried assigning Wedge instead? As this is the PAFL bus through the Wedge strip fader control.

    Hope this helps.

    @Brosco

You can use the Audio Setup / Output Patch screen to patch up to three stereo FX returns to USB B outputs 17-18, 19-20 and 21-22 (provided you are not recording stereo channels) then record these into stereo tracks in Pro Tools. However for multitrack playback you cannot return USB audio to the FX return channels. I’d suggest routing the FX tracks from Pro Tools to the Stereo Input channels on Qu-16, for example 17-18 for ST1.

    @Dawson

I am unsure if all 3 effects that we are using should all go to ST3?

No, the effects can go to the dedicated stereo FX returns. To record these see my answer to Brosco above.

    Inputs Ch 1-16 mono

You will need to set up some stereo tracks too if you wish to record the FX returns and / or a stereo channel or mix.

Outputs Not sure what these need to be set to? I am thinking that they need to be set to ch. 21/22 which is ST3?

It depends on what you are trying to do. To return the Pro Tools master mix to the Qu-16 for monitoring, route the PT master bus to a stereo channel on Qu-16, for example 21/22 for ST3 as you say. To play back each track individually to a channel for ‘virtual soundcheck’ applications, route each track back to the corresponding source, for example 1 for Mono Input 1.

I guess the other thing I am thinking of here is should the effect be inserted in to the individual channels?

Not really. You can insert FX into channels, but the FX will not be recorded as the signal sent to USB is taken from the Insert send point.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Martin,

The sends to ME-1 are taken from the channel Direct Outs. These can be set at different points of the channel path, with options to ‘follow fader’ and ‘follow mute’. You’ll find this setting in the Routing screen – note that this is a global setting affecting all channels.

    Donut,
Errors like this typically indicate an internal communications problem. Please contact your local dealer or distributor for technical assistance or submit a ticket to the UK Support team here and attach the entire log so we can fully diagnose the problem.

    Hi John,

you mentioned the Quick Start Mixing Guide and the GLD User Guide, but please note that we do have a more comprehensive manual called GLD Screen Reference Guide. This is available for download from the product page or the Learning pages on this site. Make sure you always have the latest version of these guides as we normally update the documentation with every major firmware release.

As GCumbee says the context Help file is another precious source of information.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Harald,

I’m not sure I understand your requirement but if all you want is to patch an FX return channel to your DAW, this is already possible using the Setup / Audio / Output Patch screen. USB outputs 1-16 are fixed from the Mono input channels, but you have three patchable stereo pairs (17-18, 19-20, 21-22) – these can be set to any of the FX returns.

    Hope this helps.
PS I have deleted your other post on the same subject.

    Hi all,

May I clarify a few things here. As other users have noted, this community site is designed for users to share experiences, exchange ideas, read up and learn. It is not meant as a communication channel with the manufacturer. For direct questions and enquiries to A&H, we encourage people to get in contact with our distribution network, or submit a pre-sales ticket here (the same recommendation applies to Tech Support issues as you should know). This ensures your question is processed no matter who is in the office at the time.

As for the forums, we (A&H) sometimes chime in to assist or answer operational questions which are not picked up by other users. We will rarely comment on feature requests I’m afraid, but this doesn’t mean we are not listening. We log all requests – not just from the forum but from our distributors, dealers, Tech Support staff etc. then periodically sit down to prioritize features based on demand, technical feasibility and available resources. Only when software has been written and fully tested we write down the actual feature list and can confirm what’s in a release and what’s not.

    Hello John,

Direct Outs cannot be set pre digital Trim, but you can patch ‘Input Sockets’ to the Monitor outputs – this is the signal straight after the preamp. One drawback is you won’t get your GLD channel names to ME-1 as sockets are simply called ‘dSNAKE 1’ or ‘Exp 1’ etc.

    Hope this helps,
    Nicola

One thing I didn’t mention is that Qu-16 expects all 18 files to be present in the multitrack folder, and all of the same size. If you are using less than 18, create dummy tracks by duplicating and renaming your files.

To make sure your file format is ok, copy one of the files to the AHQU/USBPlay folder and check playback in the Qu-Drive stereo page. Be aware loud noise can be generated if a file with a BWF chunk is played back – this is a known issue and will be fixed in the next maintenance release. If the file doesn’t play correctly, try rendering / exporting your tracks with another DAW or software – see this related topic.
