DCA would control level of a post fade mix. Each send from each channel can be pre or post individually, so that may be an option that works.

Otherwise, if the changes you need are consistent between gigs you could use scenes with filters blocking everything but the level changes you want.

Is this a good time to repeat my request that the ‘CH to All Mix’ is made available on a foot switch?

    😉

I’d really like to keep both hands free while I adjust an instrument’s level to each monitor. I guess it could be because I’m left handed.

    Yes

See page 89, and the top of page 90 for user settings.

I’ll add another vote for this.

I guess though, that on the SQ5 especially, taking up 8 faders for DCA doesn’t leave many for the group to spill into, so the ability to choose which ones stay fixed may be required, which would complicate things again.

On my SQ6 I’ve tried putting 4 DCAs on the soft rotaries, with the button under them doing the spill. But then there’s other things I like on the soft rotaries too and although I can set scenes to swap functions that complicates it all again.

    Thanks Keith.

2/ what a great way of doing it – I’ll know for next time 🙂

Another work around would be the make up gain of the compressor- some compression may help too.

If you have a spare group then turn it into an Aux! Trying to do it from a group will not give you the control you need.

SQ have 12 (stereo) busses which can be Auxs or Groups. This is changed in the setup section of the desk. So if you currently have 8 Aux & 4 Groups, change this to 9 & 3, and you can use Aux 9 for your ME send.

My Airport Express has a 3.5mm audio output which I usually connect to the ST3 input for wireless connection with an iOS device.

No, there’s no direct preamp control of Qu-SB from any other desk. You’ll need to keep an iPad next to your SQ for this.

As preamps don’t tend to get adjusted often once set up, I’ve not found this too much of a problem – though direct control would obviously be nicer.

    Apologies for missing #4.
When being used for the main mix, can they not just be set in the same way as all your “normal” mics?

Another option would be to patch them each to a second strip (if you have spares) for independent control.

There’s only one of each channel strip, so wherever you control it from it will affect it, wherever it goes.

If you have spare strips, you can route at least some channels to a second set of strips, and use those exclusively for the streaming mix. Preamp controls are still shared of course, but eq and dynamics will be independent.

I’d assume you don’t want these mics in the main mix at all?

If you turn them “Off” in the LR mix (or unassigned them – same thing) and then set them post fade for Mix 4, you’ll be able to control them with the faders of the main mix, and/or with a DCA.

Do you have a spare mix that you can use?

If so, just add whatever you want to hear to that, including the reverb, and hit the PFAL button for the master of that mix. This will allow you to adjust each instrument & FX volume in that mix.

Then just turn the main out down when you don’t want it in the room.
