I use both the dlive and Avantis on a regular basis and if the needs can be met, I will always choose the Avantis. I do love the dlive, but Avantis just flows better.

First things first, in Dante controller, make sure that you are routing the dlive as the transmitter and the ableton computer as the receiver. Then also make sure you route the ableton as a transmitter and the dlive as a receiver. I personally set everything 1 to 1 to keep the routing as frustration free as possible. Setting it that way will allow you to send AND receive audio.

On the Ins B page set your send to be Dante slot/channel. The return should automatically be the same channel (I think). If you want the return to be a different channel, then Unassign the return and route ableton to return the audio on a different Dante/Dlive channel, then assign that channel to a separate fader.

I found the following. It looks like the first answer from Nicola is using two surfaces, the next is using director. Hopefully that helps.

Dual independent pafl for FOH and monitor engineer.

Select any channel. Tap Routing. At the top of the screen you can change the Global Ip Direct Out Source.

Not trying to raise an Apple vs. Windows debate and will not engage in one, but I have not been able to wrap my head around the reason developers continue to exclusively support Mac and Mac Only especially when it comes to audio/video/photo development software.

Neither is excused. I use both out of necessity because of stupid decisions that both companies make, but particularly from a business perspective, supporting the Mac has to be a nightmare considering there are zero compatibility layers. Plus, when Apple decides to make sweeping changes, there is no consideration as to how much that will impact software developers. From a consumer perspective, you just upgraded your OS and your software doesn’t work anymore? Too bad. Wipe your device and start over. Boggling. Terrible attitudes towards consumers and they don’t care because they can get away with it.

Everything that has been said, I agree with. Only one master is the key. I have had issues where the most important device in the setup was not the master and the non-important device was. All of the devices that are not master will try their best to follow, but ti doesn’t always work that one. At one point we had someone who didn’t know what they were doing, changed the clock master and it took the other devices down. Since then, I make sure that the most important system is the master so if anything changes, accident or otherwise, I at least know that the device that must be operational at all times, is fine.

We thought that 6 months would be enough lead time to build out our next project for a full setup in a new location. Apparently our dealer told us that we may have delays. Part of me wants to believe that this is another ripple from the waves that were created when we were having actual shortages. Part of me thinks its excuses because a lot of what we want to order is available from major retailers even though we’ve been told that products are back ordered. I am leaning more towards the ripples that were created from the shortages and inflation pushing prices higher and higher and businesses are busting at the seams. We recently purchased a new car and the dealer told me that it took them 8 months to get it and they only were allowed one with none of the other dealerships able to get them. I confirmed this by calling the other dealerships.

I think all you would need is a Cat5/6 to fibre media converter for connecting to the GX4816.

I don’t see anything in the DX168 manual that it would work with GigAce… On the GigAce webpage it says that it would work with a DX Hub, but doesn’t mention DX expanders.

“It also enables connection from a dLive system to the DX Hub or GX4816 expander.”

If I were to take a guess, you could go from GigAce to the DX Hub and then connect the DX168 to the hub. To me, it seems like that would be really redundant.

I’m not 100% sure exactly what is wrong, but it sounds like the issue may be with Windows and not the software you are trying to install. I Googled the error and this came back:

“Windows Update error code “0x643” and Windows Installer error code “1603” are generic error codes. Typically, these error codes mean that the update was not installed. These errors codes are usually caused by a corruption in the . NET Framework installation or by an inconsistency on the MSI database state.”

Your download may be corrupted, or you might need to seek some repairs suggested in the above quote.

Running a “sfc /scannow” (without the quotes) from an administrative command prompt can some time fix corruption issues. If that doesn’t fix it, sometimes it could be out of date antivirus, or Windows may need to be refreshed. Sorry I cannot provide more help but it sounds like your issue is beyond the scope of this forum…

If I understand correctly, you said you are patching local 1 – 12 to the I/O card and then you said you are patching 1 – 40 on the I/O card. If you want Local 1 – 12 to be 1 – 12 on the I/O card, then you need to start your patching of the Slink ports to start at 13 on the I/O card.

Steep learning curve. Built in plugins are decent but will make you want to look elsewhere. Its very powerful but it will more than likely require someone to visit their help videos (which are great) to get set up and going. Having said all that, I got my recording setup, created a template, and it just works.

The best way to figure out if it is for you or not is to just go download it and start playing. No account to setup, no limitations. You can’t say that for all full featured DAWs.

I “evaluated” the software for over a year and finally purchased a license. I should have purchased it sooner because the developers really created something special.

Reaper will allow you to “evaluate” their software pretty much indefinitely. It is a bit more complicated to use but at the cost of being very flexible. A license is super cheap in comparison to the other big boy software as well. I have loved using Reaper to record and do all of the VSC functions on the cheap.

I would love to be able to find a USB stick that will even work on the board. I can load firmware with almost no issue, but if use that same USB and move it to the Record/Playback port and re-format it. The board doesn’t see it. So frustrating.
