millst: What did you have to do to get ssh working on your ilive? Mine keeps refusing my connection. Did you have to run anything on the touchscreen?

Bump. Just curious if anyone has heard anything new on this.

I’ll add to the chorus. I have an HD24 sitting on a shelf collecting dust. We use Dante for multitracking and monitor split. Dante also gives you better expandability if you want to add a monitor split someday. All that said, I’ll sell you that HD24 for $100 [:)]

We went through a lot of troubleshooting including a hard reset using the dip switches on the back of the console, but could never isolate the problem. The infrequency of the issue made it impossible to figure out. A&H ended up sending us a replacement surface (t112) and master mixrack (idr32). We haven’t had a problem since the replacement, and the rest of our setup is the same as its always been. This leads me to believe the most likely suspect was something wrong with the master mixrack. From what I understand this is an incredibly rare issue. Only a couple people I talked had heard of it happening before.

Had the same problem with idr32/idr48 dual mixrack with T112 surface. It ended up being too intermittent to troubleshoot so they swapped out my 32(master) and T112. Haven’t had a problem since.

    Any updates on this?

Aside from redundancy, currently running three different Dante cards with three different firmware versions with 2 different levels of multicasting functionality.

Does anybody know if there are plans to eventually add dual mixrack support to MixPad?

I had heard the same things as clarocque. Where can we find the updated Dante firmware?

Just thought I would third this. What you are describing is our current setup. For FOH we have an iDR32 master with ACE in port B and iDR48 slave with Dante in port B. Dante gives us a monitor and broadcast split. Dual mix rack adds a couple layers of complexity to the signal routing, but the extra channel count is worth it. As stealth said, using the slave (65-128) for inputs you need to split is definitely simpler.

We’ve had similar problems in the past recording 64 channels to a Mac Pro with Logic. It ended up being a combination of two problems. First, we were maxing out the write speed on the drive. Second, anytime the bass player would hit a fat low note, the recording would immediately stop with a write speed issue. Vibrations are bad news for mechanical hard drives.

We ended up switching to solid state to solve the problem.

The ACE link between surface and mixrack and from mixrack to mixrack is a hard patch. There are no switches or other network devices in line (Although A&H documentation does say that switches in line are acceptable for greater distances). We use these consoles in a permanently installed environment. We can’t wire it up like a touring rig. We have had them all networked with the rest of our production equipment since we got them 3 years ago.

I spent the whole last week troubleshooting but was unable to reproduce the problem. The ACE Link is all over installed wiring. We did find that pins 4 and 5 had been swapped in a punch bay. We fixed that. All interconnecting cable is cat 5e or 6 and under 325 feet.

Of course, after a week of unsuccessfully trying to cause the problem, as soon as rehearsal starts, prior to services on Saturday, the console goes nuts again. At least this time the mains remained unaffected. I was actually the one mixing this time when it happened. I have to tell you it was not a pleasant experience. We disconnected it from the rest of the control network, gave it a few minutes, and it behaved itself the rest of the weekend. I’m not a network guru, but is it possible for a mixer to receive stray control commands? There was nothing connected directly to this console.

Mark, the possessed channels seem to be independent of specific hardware faders. The possessed channels don’t have to be on a physical fader. You can watch them move in mixrack setup. We purchased the hardware in ’09 and haven’t had any problems with it until now. The only hardware change recently was a switch to dual mixrack mode about a month ago.

Sam, I contacted American Music and Sound by phone, should I be going through https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/ instead?

Interesting. All of our consoles are on a managed control network with a few Cisco wireless access points (not routers). The only wireless connection to a console at the time would have been an Editor session connected to the iDR16 for monitors. We had a wired Editor session connected to the iDR16 as well. As far as I’m aware we didn’t have any issues with the iDR16/Editors. We actually relied on the wired connection to the iDR16 to mix the rest of the service. I did find just find out that one of the wireless access points died at some point during the morning, but according to IT, their logs say it did not start spraying data or anything.

While it was freaking out we disconnected the FOH console from the rest of the control network leaving direct patches from the surface, to the iDR32, to the iDR48. Faders continued to move for several minutes after this. It was back on the network when it went back to normal.

Any idea what your router was doing that caused the issue?

A&H figured out what was wrong with my systems. This may not apply to you, but apparently you cannot give your mixrack a name that has more than 12 characters including spaces. The systems that I have that didn’t work at all had 16 and 17 characters in their names. The system that crashed when I selected a mix had 14 characters in its name. I changed all three systems to have less than 12 characters and everything started working flawlessly. I’m excited to FINALLY be able to use Mixpad after a month of troubleshooting!

If it makes you feel any better, I currently can’t even connect MixPad to two of my three networked systems, and the one that I can use it on does the same thing as yours. As soon as I select a mix, it logs out. I have tried it with a couple of routers, one with encryption and one without. I don’t think it’s a router thing. I can connect with editor and tweak no problem, even when I’m using tweak on the iPad. I’ve been emailing back and forth with A&H’s technical support guys for over a week trying to work these problems out. I’m hoping they figure it out soon, ’cause I really want to start using the app that I spent money on.
