So, could the 18t inputs get damaged if you don’t use a DI box?

No, but the instrument won’t sound quite the way that it should. The most noticeable difference, will be a loss of high end content. It is best to properly match the impedance, for whatever you are connecting to your mixer.

The Avantis uses the dLive Dante card, which has its bridge control as a physical switch on the card between the primary and secondary ports.

I changed my mixrack and surface from their defaults quite awhile back. IIRC I think that I did the mixrack using director, and then changed the surface to be part of the new subnet.

I have a CQ20B but haven’t had it out in the field yet. I’ve only played with it in the shop. I can say that the SQ, Avantis, and dLive all sound fantastic, and there *is* a difference in sound between them and Qu and GLD (which I also have). Since the CQ is based on the same architecture, I am guessing that it should sound about the same as the SQ, Avantis, and dLive other than the preamp differences.

I have also compared Qu-Pac and the UI24R, using them both on a gig at the some location, and using the same speaker system, and the Qu-Pac sounds better IMO, with an overall warmer sound, whereas the UI was a bit “brittle” sounding for my personal likes. The UI24R sounds very similar to the X-Air. The Qu-Pac is basically the SB with a screen, some buttons, and a few other extras.

Based on my past experience with the other A&H 96K products, I would personally choose the CQ, unless you needed the added expandability of bus architecture (groups, DCAs, matrix, etc) and channel counts of the SB. Personally I don’t like mixing anything more than 16 channels on a tablet. With higher channel counts, I would much rather be on a physical console.

I am hoping to get the CQ out on a gig over the next few weeks. Based on what others have said already, I am confident that it is a great sounding mixer.

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER…. try to split an ethernet connection! Run a small 4 (or so) port switch instead.

@mistapuss by can’t connect, can you be more specific?

    1. Can you see the CQ device in your list of available WiFi connections on your iPad?
    2. Can you successfully connect to the WiFi, but not the mixer?

The CQ series’ built-in WiFi is 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac which is great. WiFi 5. As Brian mentioned, a lot of other manufacturers using older standards. Overall I was quite impressed with the CQ’s built-in WiFi compared to another mixer that we also have available.

Sounds like a sync issue. Make sure that the Dante card in the SQ is synching to the clock on the mixer. If you need another clock master, then make sure that the SQ is synchig to the Dante card.

I haven’t actually tested it yet, but it looks like it toggles between WiFi and LAN. Toggling to LAN very likely disables DHCP server, and probably disables the radio as well.

I did some testing in a heavily congested WiFi area (my office with 3 APs, and at least 5 other neighboring APs) and was able to get back about 50′ before my tablet started showing a drop in signal. I was much closer to 2 other access points at the time, which are commercial grade APs. I was using the 5 GHz band on the CQ at the time. I still plan on carrying a backup AP to actual gigs.

P.S. I am using a CQ20B, and will be mixing remotely. If you will be using it from stage for monitors, or mixing, the signal should be quite good from the built-in WiFi.

I’m not currently in front of a mixer, but I think you have to specifically “enable” the LAN connection in setup.

Did you set the CQ-20B’s LAN IP address to either be part of the same subnet as your router, or use DHCP?

Create scenes for each condition, and use the scene filters to block everything except the patches and any other relevant settings. Then assign each of those scenes to their own softkeys.
