If nothing else you can do it using Mixing Station instead of Director.

If you read my post again you will see that I’m talking about the fx busses, not the return channels. There is no such thing as a ‘fx return busses’ btw. Those are input channels.

This is a nice and simple suggestion. I completely agree. The ‘ramp’ on the encoder makes it difficult to set delay times. Either you completely over-shoot, or you are going way to slow. That is why some manufacturers have linear encoders + a ‘fine’ setting. Typing it in would however be preferable. When setting times for an entire orchestra you get frustrated real quick.

Its not ‘commonplace’ when only a few systems can do it without using inputs or matrices.

That being said you can certainly go:
Kick group>Drum group>Band group, by using the external in on each group. You will however not be able to send multiple groups to the band group. Just the drum bus + all the channels.

What I do is use the main bus as a band bus. I then route all vocals to a group and add that group to my output matrices. EazyPeazy

I just got the ‘purchase license’ pop-up in the beta before posting, but the app wasn’t updating to include it. I just figured it was a bug…instead it was awesome news!

A&H should send a dLive and a bag of money to David at dev-core so he can get the Mixing Station app fully featured for dLive. It is currently in beta, but with some assistance that could quickly change.

I like the idea of director as fully featured on pc/mac, and then a great iPad controller like mixing station for actual live mixing.

A feature like that is more likely to cause issues than the insert itself. Instead, simply create a scene that switches off the relevant inserts and assign it to a softkey.

If you want to go ‘crazy’ you can split the relevant channels, have the split channels ganged for some functions like EQ, and create a ducking setup that essentially does this. Maybe even using a pilot tone that is looped through DVS/Soundgrid for the ducking. Its pretty silly though. A button is better.

I couldn’t agree more. This is a thing that should have been resolved way back in the iLive days…15 years ago maybe.

Steffen, I understand that gangs serve more than one purpose, BUT to quote the dLive firmware reference guide regarding stereo inputs:
“This is intended for permanently configuring channels as stereo inputs, for example music players. Use the Ganging screen for on-the-fly linking of stereo sources while mixing live.”

I would be willing to bet that 90% of the times ganging is used, it is for stereo channels. It has been that way since iLive.

Specs are identical. Its probably safe to assume that something else changed in your setup…

Honestly, I wouldn’t really care about stereo channels at all if ganged channels worked as ‘expected’. By that I mean that they do not act like stereo channels when an insert is used. You basically cannot use a Dyn8 on a stereo gang.

AH are fairly open about the fact that stereo channels are for fixed stereo pairs like house music playback etc.(the fact that this is in the mixrack settings only is also a hint), but its a hard sell when there are no stereo insert or gang control option for Dyn8 etc.

I don’t know about that particular setup, but in mixrack>mixer config you can select individual or combined master faders.

I just want to point out that you don’t have to worry about phantom power on multiple consoles in a passive split. If 48v across those pins would cause any damage, then it wouldn’t matter what the power source was.

I know it is not ideal, but you could use the Dyn8 as a sort of multiband expander. You have 64 Dyn8s, so you can probably spare a few for expander duty.

On Vi you just hold down the select buttons to select a range. This works for copy/pase, saving to/loading from library, and gang selection. There is a ‘gang’ button for ganging, but that could just be a user button. No biggie.
