There is a fix for that USB issue – get a laptop with an AMD processor, hook it up via USB-B port and record through that to an external hard drive.
If recording via the console is important to your work then that is the solution.

I would not call that a fix. I would call that a work around.

I have been thinking about an upgrade to a SQ board but I read they have the same problem. I have several Intel based PC laptops. The newer ones don’t work with my Qu-24 so I am left to use an old laptop for live recording. Which is fine, but it won’t last forever, and when that goes I’ll be faced with the decision to stay with A&H and select a laptop based on USB compatibility or switch to another brand that does not suffer compatibility issues. I have felt very good about my brand loyalty so far and honestly I don’t like the thought of looking at other brands.

The Qu-Drive works brilliantly though and I’m thankful for that. I like to record to both the Qu-Drive and a laptop for redundancy.

It would also be nice if there were a fix for the USB 3 compatibility issue. The board may work for another 15 years but My PC surely won’t and USB 2 cards are getting harder to find.

    Alex,

    Thanks for the information.

To the best of my knowledge, my mixers are functioning the same as the day they were new. The faders on both my mixers feel identical and both are 3 or 4 years old. There was a very noticeable difference with the faders on the chrome edition. I appreciate that A&H may make improvements to hardware over time. I was curious to know if there was any official word on these improvements, not only to faders but processing power and sound quality as well. Things like this might factor into a decision to upgrade to the newer versions.

    Ryan,

Thanks for the explanation. That is exactly what I needed to know. On the Qu-24 I can get 5 stereo mixes which is plenty. I was just trying to understand what the matrices give me.

For the sake of closure on this topic.

I upgraded the Surface Pro 3 to Windows 10, turned off networking and recorded a 2.5 hour gig with 16 channels into REAPER with no dropouts or glitches. It seems that Windows 10 does in fact work better for this application than Windows 8.1 and the Surface is a nice compact tool for this job. I was able to leave the screen on so I could watch all the input meters through the gig and still had more than 40% battery left.

Yes I was thinking that a 1.7GHz core i7 would be more than fast enough to handle simple multitrack recording. I have a much older AMD based laptop that keeps up just fine.

The latency in this case is not round trip latency from the software through the interface and back. It is the amount of time it takes for Interrupt Service Routines and the following Delayed Procedure Calls to return control to applications. So if a block of audio comes in from the mixer and you then get a long running DPC you can potentially loose subsequent audio blocks.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and performed the recommended optimizations. I’ll turn off the network and wifi when I record this weekend and see if Windows 10 is better.

Thank you. I did read that the network adapter is one of the biggest problems so I’ll disable that.

Windows 10 has a new feature that allows audio to lock to a single core and have all the other tasks use the remaining cores. But I think that the drivers have to be coded to take advantage of it. Maybe someone at A&H knows if the Qu USB driver can do this.

    Dick,

That does look like a handy little board to carry with you. I have a small Yamaha with similar features. The only deficiency is that it only has one Aux out. I’d like to have 2 Aux outs plus monitor outs on TRS. I’m sure I’ll find something suitable. Thanks for the input.

    GCumbee,

Yes that might be rough for FOH. I was actually thinking about this for tracking in our rehearsal space. The stereo L and R come into my DAW on separate tracks so this might be an easy way to get 4 more mono channels. For things like drum overheads or room mics, or anything else not going through the PA, it seems like a perfect fit.

If iPad is the only option it would still be better than nothing. However I would much prefer to be able to do this on a PC with more screen real estate and keyboard and mouse.

I would like to add another vote for this feature.

On my Qu-16 with Reaper, I find that when a track in Reaper is at 0dB the faders on the Qu-16 are at about -2dB. this is consistent with all the faders. I did a fader calibration to make sure I didn’t have something wrong but I get the same results after calibration too. It is not a serious problem. I was just wondering about it.

    Hi David,

I have not been able to get any version of your software to run on my Asus TF700T tablet. When I launch it, it begins to load and then immediately crashes and I get a message that Unfortuneatly it has stopped. I have submitted a report with each version when I have tried it. That might not be the proper channel though. I’m wondering if there is anyway to troubleshoot this to get it to work?

    Thanks for your help.

Thank you again. I think your first suggestion works the best. I can get a good IEM mix and keep it completely unaffected by the levels to FOH.

Thank you. I changed it to pre fader and now I hear the reverb. The reverb level does not follow the vocal fader level in the mix though. Can that be made to follow the level or am I stuck adjusting it manually?
