For the sake of helping anyone that may have this issue: I’ve had this happen several times and I routinely record for 1-2 hours at a time to USB. As you may know, the GLD is picky with its flash drives and won’t even recognize many. I have some kingston drives that work. After lots of recording time (50+ hours) it will occasionally throw these errors and sometimes cease to be recognized at all. When I plug it into a PC it says there’s an error, so I scan and fix it. Then it’s recognized again in the GLD. Best I can tell, flash memory has a certain level of durability, and after a sector is written to so many times it can begin to fail. Audio recording in WAV can be a higher demand, and over a long period of time the flash drive can have less sectors available for use (same goes for SSD drives after several hundred terabytes of writes). So yes, the easy fix is to get a new flash drive. But if you’re stubborn, you may be able to scan for errors and fix it on a PC until it dies for good.

Ooooohh, I want! I’m always switching back and forth between EQ and RTA.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Leon: I was freeing up XLR outputs on the snake, not Aux channels. I was previously sending 16 Aux channels to 16 XLR outputs. I’m now sending those exact same 16 Aux channels to the Aviom monitor port, and the volume dropped considerably. I had to max the P16-I sensitivities and boost the Aux channel faders by 10dB.

I can’t say I’d be opposed to trying the ME-1 stations, but the reason for the Behringers is the cost (and they were purchased before the ME-1 system was released). If it would cost very much to upgrade it wouldn’t be worth it right now.

I prefer Reaper for recording from Dante over Pro Tools. It’s very cheap, and WAY faster than Pro Tools. Much less resource hungry and less limitations. Then you can import the audio into any other software for editing.

Another option I just realized: since the GLD-80 supports the Allen & Heath or Aviom network protocols, you can assign the monitor channels as an Aviom network, and buy a used Aviom AN-16/o output module for a few hundred bucks. Then connect the Aviom module to the dSnake monitor port, and Aviom outputs to the Behringer input module. It would free up all the dSnake return channels and be probably the cheapest option.

For our digital snake I bought a Cat6a shielded STP cable from Monoprice. 100ft for $28. Then I bought some Neutrik Ethercon ends (for preassembled cables) for a few bucks. Carefully cut off the rubber boots from the cable and installed the ends. Whala! Fully shielded Ethercon cable, 100ft for about $40. Better quality than most others.

I’ve been using it on vocals. I don’t really have a full understanding of it, but it has done something magical to hard to control vocals that regular EQ or compression could not. More natural balancing of frequencies. I pull up the vocal fix preset and adjust the frequencies to the hot spots and run pretty high compression in the very aggressive areas. Sounds great on female vox with a harsh 2-4k range and seriously helps even out cheap crummy mics!

+1 on this, Android and Windows app

There are more Android devices around than iOS. And a Windows app seems the most USABLE for someone actually sitting at the console and wanting additional control.

Now that you mention it, probably so. I just thought I was sitting at a weird angle and not pushing where I thought I was on the screen. And I believe I did recalibrate already.

My understanding is that all snake modules are automatically updated to the current firmware when an outdated version is recognized. Just turn the snakes on and reboot the GLD and they should update.

Agreed on the confirmation message. I never hit the wrong button but always wonder, “Did it store it?” There are a few places around the menus where confirmation messages would be great.

But with the expense of an Aviom output module, couldn’t I just buy another 8/4 i/o module to get more outputs? We just need a couple more. The Aviom route seems like a waste to me. In any case, I was hoping to somehow avoid spending another $1k. :)

We need 16 separate output aux channels though, because it is a personal mixer system where each person creates their own mix.

I will take a look at that, thanks. We only have one channel to each aux, all are pre-fade. I want to allow for gate, HPF, etc. but not compression on the aux channels.

I have accounts where I’ve disabled every user option possible, and it still seems to allow recalling of scenes.
