Here is a very in-depth article on why the Audio world doesn’t do Android. Also, a previous generation i-device can be found pretty cheaply, I’d think! Hope this helps..

I always remove the previous version of firmware from the thumb drive I use for this, and replace it with new. Also, I’ve always plugged it in with the mixer powered up, and with Utilities page open, and works fine. One time with a previous version, I DID have a problem with thumb drive, and had to re-format it with the Qu, then worked fine. Hope this helps.

I did not have any problems updating the QU firmware until V 1.4. With that firmware, the mixer didn’t recognize the stick until after I re formatted it. Then reloading the firmware on the USB stick, it worked fine. Weird thing was, before re formatting the stick, it was perfectly readable by the computer! (late 2012 Mac Pro) Hope this helps.

    Hi Tom,

I’m a live audio guy, not a musician, so, I’ll do my best to help! The QU mixer is NOT a recorder, but can record in 2 ways. Either directly to specific hard drives, through the “QU-Drive” USB port on the front panel. See which drives have been tested and approved on the pdf file at the bottom of this page: https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/774/201/qu-drive–understanding-qu-drive-and-usb

OR, directly to a MAC or PC based DAW (such as Protools etc. ) A & H just very recently came out with a new firmware update to support PC’s in addition to MAC’s also (V 1.4).

I’ve used both direct recording to hard drive, (from “QU-Drive” USB port on front panel) (limited to 18 tracks on both QU-16 & QU 24 mixers) and also recording to a MacBook Pro running Protools (from the USB “B” port on the back panel)(in this way, will record up to 24 tracks). I’ve found both methods to be quite reliable, as I’ve recorded a couple different gigs with sessions running between 20-25 GB each.

I don’t have any experience with the Lexicon processor you mention, so, I couldn’t comment on that. I have found the QU mixer efx to be quite good sounding though! You can find example of the QU mixer’s effects on this page:

    https://www.allen-heath.com/qu-fx-processing/

Good luck, Tom, hope this helps!

I had the same problem as above with the V 1.4 firmware , and ended up re-formatting USB stick, also, which was the “fix” for me too. 1.4 looks great!

Hi, if you want to play the tracks back from the Qu-Drive to the desk, then you cannot change the file names. You CAN change the file names for use in your DAW of choice.. Here’s a link that should answer any question you have about that:

    Hope this helps,

I’m on V. 1.2 of the firmware, and as long as channels are muted, I don’t have this problem, and I tested it with an AKG 414. Of course the display and level signal LEDs still show this, as normal…. The Qu-16 I have is still pretty early in production run and came with V 1.01. firmware Ser# is way under #500 if that helps..

    Hopefully helps!

    Hi,

I don’t think the QU-16 recognizes partitions, because A & H recommends formatting a drive for use only with the QU-16. Fat-32 format, I believe. They specify a only certain drives as being compatible. See this link for more info:

    https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/774/273/qu-drive–understanding-qu-drive-and-usb

Sorry, I really don’t know about the QU recognizing partitions, my guess is that it won’t recognize partitions. I just followed their recommendation for getting a drive just for use with the mixer, formatting the drive using the mixer, so it also builds the right folder structure, etc and then after the gig, xferring all the audio files to my computer @ home.

    Hope this helps..

Oh, man, I wish I would’ve waited…Really liking more soft keys, Matrix outputs, and sub groups.. and of course more inputs. 😉

Per John above, I always instruct camera people to with their xor inputs to line also. sometimes, they don’t even know they have that!

I have the same SKB case as GR_PDX noted above, good point about no padding, wish I’d known about the case from Spider Engineering above! One handy thing about the SKB case, though, is there’s enough room to tuck a recording hard drive underneath the mixer temporarily during a gig.

When I got my Qu-16, it had the V 1.01 firmware installed, a couple weeks later, the V1.10 firmware was released, so, I did the update at that time. I checked out the Qu Pad app, and at first couldn’t connect, so, I checked the DHCP on the mixer, enabled it, and everything was fine with my Airport after that. I also only use the 5GHZ band and hid the SSID, so, hopefully nobody’s phone will try & ping it. Works great! There sure is a lot of data going back & forth between mixer & and Qu Pad app though!

Hope this helps, but you should be able to export ProTools .wav files as MONO, as Protools works with files in mono only, although that may have changed in V. 11? When I was still working in the post field, all session files (most of the time) were mono, 48k 24 bit. Quite often, they were also time stamped for session locations, perhaps that is a problem? As with all things, it may be different based on client needs..

Hope this info might help somehow..

I don’t know about that, but I just got the new iPad Air (also retina display). also has way more CPU power than previous iPads, and hope fully will result in better battery life, as first time I used au-pad, it was on a 3rd gen. iPad. Worked very well, but my battery life took a bight with all the processing going on! Looking forward to trying the new one out on a gig soon.

    Hope this helps,
    John
