    Hi Philt80,

Sounds like you’ve got a good internal setup with the 2 drives, are they on the same bus perhaps? I don’t know if it’s comparable, but, I tried to record a clients gig, used an external USB2 drive and looped the Qu’s connection through the drive, then to the Mac. Turned out to be big no-no as it’d continously drop out of record, and that was with just 8 tracks. Got a new Firewire drive, (7200 RPM) ran a test with that (FW800)connected, reconnected the mixer via usb. Did a test record in this way, that firewire and USB are 2 different busses, and that seemed to be the fix. I recorded 18 tracks to Protools on the FW external, for 2 1/2 hours and never dropped out of record. I think total session size was about 30-35 gigs if I remember right. Hope this info helps you somewhat, just trying to help!

    Hi Wjl123,

I see, interesting! Is that ok per the DAW’s instructions? I was just remembering from my Protools experience, where it was strongly encouraged to record to an external drive. I haven’t done any recording in quite awhile though, so, perhaps that’s ok now!

Are any of you recording to external drives? I didn’t see any mention of that. I always record to external drives when feeding to a computer (Mac) in my case. The Qu Drive works fine for me also, just gotta pay close attention to A & H’s approved drive list.

    Hi Josh,

Sorry about your problem. Do you have your PC plugged into the USP port on the back of the mixer? Front panel USB is for direct HDD recording only! Also, did you restart mixer and or your PC after the drivers were installed?

I’m afraid these are the only things I can think of, being a Mac guy, but hope it helps..

    Hi,

The QU series is native to the MAC and Core Audio. There are Windows ASIO drivers located here:

    Good Luck,

Uh oh, Sure hope I didn’t confuse. Shame on me for doing this late on USA time. Sorry, I forgot to mention that my Airport Extreme IS the older bulkier type, and haven’t had any problems with the old school unit. Thanks robbocurry, I didn’t know you could change LED behavior in the utility. I learn something every day! Or at least I try!

Hi, The blinking amber is normal, as that LED is only an indication of internet connection. amber being NO internet, green being internet connected. I don’t think you want to be connected to the internet through the express for this task. Plug your mixer into the lan port (the one with the arrow looking, kind of symbol). Are you using a recent iPad or iPhone? if so, then set the Airport Express to 5GHZ band only. Also hide the SSID of your network, and use the “WPA2 security” and of course, remember that password. 😉 The reason for this hiding it helps keep most any phone from pinging your network while you’re trying to mix as the Qu-Pad app uses a lot of bandwidth. Also, on the mixer, please make sure “DHCP” is enabled. Push the “setup” button, on the screen, select the “control” tab, then the “network” tab. Enable DHCP, and then touch Apply. I set my Airport Extreme up this way, and have never had any problem in the venues I’ve worked in, ands it’s really cool! Hope this isn’t too over simplified or drawn out, just trying to help. Oh yeah, I had the QU-16 mixer out, so figured I re-confirm the steps. I also mention this as first time it didn’t work, and that was due to DHCP NOT being enabled from the factory. Hope this helps!

Also here’s the link to Apple’s picture of the unit and connections. Good luck!

Apple Airport Extreme, (one of the older square ones)I think one of the last generation of those, set for 5Ghz, SSID hidden, and placed up high above humans. I’ve gotten good reception at a distance of 100Ft with audience of about 400 with that unit. Only very rarely loses connection when I’m at the back of the room, and when I sit down (after lots of standing). Hope that helps!

I got hit on the QU price drop as well, although I noticed mine was actually made in the UK! Maybe they wanted to keep it close to home at first to make sure the model got off to a good start? The serial # on mine is under #000500. Working fine though!

For the MacBook Pro, most likely because it’s simultaneously converting the files from Fat 32 to HFS+ (default Mac OS 10) for Windows 7, maybe re-writing the files to another format? I remember transferring an 18 track section to my 2012 Mac Pro, and it basically took real time.

    Hi Buzzfry,

for Qu-Drive compatibility, you need to go to this link:
    https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/774/268/qu-drive–understanding-qu-drive-and-usb

The drive I use from that list is NOT externally powered and works great. I recorded a show a little over 2 hours in length (all 18 tracks, and no dropouts etc.) Also, for your Presonus Studio One, are you using MAC or PC? The Qu-16 works great with the Mac’s Core Audio drivers. If you’re using PC, then you’ll probably need to download & install the Windows drivers that A & H has for the QU mixer, located here: https://www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/#tab5

You’ll need to create a user account to for downloading software & firmware.
    Good luck,
    John

Just chiming in here, there is also lots of great info located on the Knowledge base site here:

    https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/Knowledgebase/List/Index/201/qu-series

I’ve had very good experience, especially when I’ve followed the HDD recommended drive info for using the Qu-Drive process. I’ve also had good experience when recording direct to Protools on my MacBook Pro. Again that knowledge base site is a great resource, as A & H has recently added Windows drivers also. I’m assuming that might be part of your concern with Cubase, as I believe it’s Windows (PC) only. Hope this helps!

I did a gig sometime back on Qu-Drive, on an actual HDD, NOT a stick, so that may be a difference, but as I recall, my 18 track files used about 25-28 GB. This was a little over 2 hours recording time continuous. I guess the stick is somehow handled differently? The files are 24 bit 48k sample rate wav, btw. Hope this helps.

I realize that, but how about latency for control, not to mention trying to develop for how many different versions of hardware, skins on top of Android, from the numerous manufacturers? Come to think of it, I think someone did develop a version of Qu-Pad for Android? maybe same will be done for Qu-You. I admittedly am NOT a developer, and just figured I’d link to the article as an assist, to explain some of the reasoning.
