You can route your tops, subs and monitor faders to a DCA and use it as a master fader. I have my SQ5 setup this way for the show I’m currently doing.

You should be able to do the same with a matrix, though I’ve never done it that way.

I have mine setup in the SKB-R100 with the SKB-AV8 shelf, just like in the picture on your post. Works great and I’ve never had an issue with heat. I’ve been out all summer doing shows on hot pavement. She’s never given me a bit of problem.

I run subs and fills on AUXs and set them post fader. I have independent control of both, while controlling the overall level of subs, fills and FOH tops with the FOH fader.

That’s What I figured, but thought I would ask.
    Thank you both.

    Hi all.

Just curious if using a Qu mixer for monitors and an SQ mixer for FOH, while also using a stage box as inputs, still requires two CAT cables and the additional S-Link port on the SQ at FOH? I’m assuming any firmware update hasn’t changed that, but thought I’d ask.

Does anyone know of a diagram showing this setup?

I’ve been a fan of A&H mixers since my first GL-2, many, MANY years ago. After several years on a GL-2200-24, I went digital with a QU-32. A few years later I added a QU-SB(and then an AR84 for another 8 channels) for smaller, more space constrained venues. Just bought an SQ-5 and a GX4816 stage box. Now that my show schedule is slowing a bit, I want to spend some time learning the SQ-5 and figuring out how to set it up with one of my QUs as monitor mixer, when I need such a setup.

Thanks for all the great info here.

    Hi A&H experts,

I know this is an older thread, but I’m having the same issue with a QU-SB and an AR84. Can’t seem to get the AR84 to pass signal. I have connection between the two and I’ve patched it in, per the instructions, but no luck yet.

I found this thread and thought I’d ask if the OP ever got it working and what the solutions turned out to be.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I’ve been mixing shows with an ipad for over a year. Works great for me. Took some getting used to and I do miss the tactile feel of faders and knobs, but enjoy the freedom to roam the room. And club owners love that I don’t take up large amounts of real estate in their venues. On the other hand, in packed rooms, I miss not having a cordoned off, designated area of my own!

For multi band festivals and theatrical shows (with up to 24 wireless mics), I still use my QU-32 as FOH. Just easier for me.

The graphic eq on a monitor send works to trim off the low end. Not the same as an hpf, but at least it helps.

I’m going to be in your part of the world next week, Hugh. My wife is from Sacramento and we love visiting San Francisco. Haven’t been in 3 years, so we decided it was time for another trip. For a rural Nebraska boy, I (surprisingly to me, at least) find SF an amazing place. The culture changes almost block to block! The architecture is beautiful. Love hanging out on the bay and just people watch.

Sorry, this has nothing to do with your question. Just got me thinking.

I use AES output from my QU32 into my dbx VENU 360.

Not at my mixer right now, but as I recall, the QU will “see” the AES connection and send LR to it when connected. I don’t recall changing any setting to make this work.

Be sure you use a quality AES cable. A standard XLR is not recommended from all accounts I read.

    Nice Jake!

Glad they worked out for you. Love having the color fader knob options.

    Best,

Just wanted to thank everyone who was helpful in this thread. I ended up purchasing a refurbished ipad 2 and an Airport Express. Spent some time yesterday getting things connected and figured out.

Happy to report that everything seems to be working as it should. I can see this is going to be a great investment.

    Again, thank you. Much appreciated!
