The new CQ series has much going for it, but I wouldn’t swap my 2 QuPacs for it. CQ is really for those with little time or experience to get good sound with minimal fuss. But it has no mute groups, no sub groups and no matrices, all of which are deal breakers for me. The built in WiFi may be fine, but I wouldn’t trust it, and the 96K output is unlikely to make a scrap of difference to the average punter in the audience. The auto setup features of the CQ are a bit hit and miss for me (having used one several times). I much prefer to do my own setups (which the CQ will still allow).

In a perfect world, Allen & Heath would make an SQ Pac but this doesn’t look likely any time soon. Now that I would buy in a heartbeat.

It won’t work via the QU’s DSnake network port, if that was your intention. That is a proprietary protocol only supported by the Allen & Heath digital stage boxes.

I use an LD Mei1000 IEM to monitor when it’s needed and it’s fine. I also have an X-Vive but it’s on 2.4GHz and the signal is very flaky (plus it’s a mono device which is no ideal).

I store my own sometimes. For example, if I use the same mic (a Sennhesier e906 for example) on the same guitar amp for a particular guitarist, with the same EQ and gain settings, it’s worth storing the channel as a user preset. You may need to adjust EQ for the room, but the presets are only ever a starting point anyway. It does save a little time, especially if you have no time to set up a gig beforehand.

Lots of ways… but you could just simply leave the fader all the way down on the LR mix, and adjust to taste on the Aux channel. Or unassign it from the main mix altogether.

Would love to be able to afford Sennheisers but they are as much as the desk! I have just purchased two of the new LD 508 systems and first impressions are good.

That’s bad news Keefus, but sadly things can wrong, especially in something so complicated. It only takes one rogue element to wreck things. Just wondering why you didn’t get it sorted in 2015 as it would still have been under warranty, but that’s easier to say than do.

FWIW, I have had a Qu 16 since 2016, A Qu-Pac since 2017 and a new backup Qu-Pac for a year and they all work as if fresh from the factory (still waiting for the Sq Pac!!!). The good thing is I think A&H genuinely do care about their customers. You wouldn’t want to be in this position with some other manufacturers I could mention – a quick trawl of the FB pages will tell you that!

Yep exactly as Mike described. Although depending on the room and your mixing method, the Digitech has left and right output so you may need 1 or 2 additional channels depending on your preference (some FX sound better in stereo).

Yep, you can adjust the level of any instrument in any monitor mix by selecting the layer for that mix and adjusting the sends. I assume you need stereo for IEMs?

I believe so. Just connect the Qu to the AB168 and then the AB168 to the AR84 via the expander port.

Pretty sure this is not something that you can change.

When you mix settings do you mean fader levels etc? If so, you need to save the scene and recall when you need it. Perhaps set up your IEMs in the first few faders and create placeholders for the other channels with basic settings that you just adjust for the venue.

You can easily copy the channel strip (gain, PEQ, Gate, Compressor etc) by saving your IEM as a complete channel user preset. I do this for all instruments and vocalists and tweak according to the venue (which you won’t need as it’s for IEMs)

Funnily enough I had exactly the same issue at my last gig where I couldn’t control the output from the keyboard player. It was on 46v pp and di into my Qu Pac. Be interested to see what others think.

Pretty sure you can’t use either as a stage box with your SQ5 I’m afraid. But as a proud owner of a QU Pac, I can safely say that they are just ticket for smaller events, especially pub gigs where space is tight.
Tour best bet is to get a DX168 which delivers the 96k of the desk, as opposed to a AB168 which is only 48k.
