You have a point Dick, i do agree if there is never another upgrade, i will still be very satisfied with the QU. But there is obviously (always) room for improvement. I agree with the OP, it would be nice to see AH take care of the people who have bought into this platform by making refinements based on some of the requests, even if it is something that they cant add to the feature list. As an example, i posted in the feature suggestions section, the need for a way to finer control the playhead when playing back longer files from qu-drive. If you are focusing on one song on an hour+ recording, or even worse a section of that song, it is very difficult to navigate the track accurately. If the main multi-function knob would be enabled to control the qu-drive playhead, it would make that process much less frustrating. It would be nice to know AH are listening, and if minor refinements could be made with little resources, that they were willing to do that.

A 57 is probably not best suited for bass. But it will work, and if you like what you hear, then there is no reason not to use it.

You can in fact select what channels will record to qu-drive, i believe from the routing menu, the most common reason why you would do this is if you wanted to include one of the 3 stereo inputs. But by default it will record inputs 1-16 and the main LR i believe. You arm the HD from the QU-drive multitrack menu, by pressing the record button. Then once it is flashing, press play and you will be recording.

^^^ 100% what that guy said.

For convenience i would go with powered monitors. The JBL’s referenced above i would still consider entry level, but should do the job fine. Anything else below that price point i wouldn’t expect much from. Yamaha, KRK, Presonus, etc all have options around that price point.

I use a 3rd gen (pre lightning port) ipad. It is very slow for day-to-day use, i pretty much only use it with the QU now, but it does the job for that just fine. As an engineer with the qu, you are going to want an ipad vs an iphone. The iphone app is mainly geared towards musicians tweaking levels on individual monitor feeds. For ringing out monitors, checking your mix in different spots of the room, etc you are going to want/need an ipad.

+1 for dpdan’s suggestion on 2 seperate soft key mutes, great solution. Good tip on the DCA use too, thanks.

Mac’s allow you to create “Aggregate” audio devices. Essentially you can combine multiple audio interfaces that will be viewed as one device in logic. This is all done in the audio/midi settings, there is a “+” sign to add a device, select aggregate. Hope this helps.

It’s not like they hide these limitations of the qu-drive. Ya i agree getting more would be swell, especially for the 24/32 owners. But you know what you have to work with, and there are different ways to work around the limits as others have said.

I would be curious if it flickers at home too. Tough to say if it was bad power, but i would be surprised power were the issue, and the only part of the desk that was affected was the screen. If it were me i would probably exchange it through GC for a new one.

You may have to use 2 inputs and a mix to accomplish this. For example use channel 1 for your synth, dont send that to LR or monitors, send it only to a dedicated mix. Then send that mix to your compresser, out of the compressor back to input 2.

There are definitely some threads on here about using external effects.

Or even if they could implement something similar to the touch sensitivity on the qu-pad, where if you touch, then slide you finger away from the fader, the “resolution” of you movements become finer.

Glad to see i’m not he only one frustrated by this. After seeing these responses i also see that there are quite a few possible solutions to this. Lets hope AH see’s this for version 2.0 🙂

From my experience, the best way to go is to mix your QU-Drive multi track session. Then set up a stereo track in a DAW, stream your LR mix to stereo track and record it that way.

I had the same problem as the OP, drove me nuts for a long time. Eventually i made a claim through my GC extended warranty (board was purchased used). They diagnosed and sent to AH, got the mixer back a month later and it is fixed. I was never told what the problen was exactly, but i never drop a connection anymore and boy am i a happy customer now. If you are covered under warranty still, contact AH. Sorry i cant provide details on what the actual problem was, they left me in the dark on that.

I wouldn’t be mad about those two features either. All i know is, using the touch screen is not convenient at all.

Multiple routers, i initially switched to the airport express because that was what AH said they used in house and tested with.
