QuDrive or USB B? What are recording on? What else is connected?
What’s the noise like? Any chance you can post a sound file?
You say it generates the noise during playback, but then that you have to re-do the recording, so is the noise recorded – and therefore generated during recording? To be honest, diagnosing this online is going to be tricky, but I’m sure people will try if you can give them more to go on.

Thanks, though I already knew that!
My question was whether it was a way of working that would solve Yohan329’s problem.2014/07/27 at 1:18 pm #41073If there are two engineers, can one use the desk itself, while the other runs an iPad?
2014/07/25 at 9:04 am #41036Relax!
It seems to save with a scene & is remembered when powered down.
2014/07/24 at 10:53 am #41014It’s page 42 of the latest version!
All 18 recording channels can now be selected to be whatever you want on the QuDrive now, but the default setting is that 17 & 18 record L+R (which then plays back through ST1).
You need to go to “Setup” > “Output Patch” . “USB Audio” and change it there to what you need.
2014/07/01 at 2:08 pm #40477Deleting cookies did help the first time, but then the problem returned. Doing it every time is a little tedious!
2014/07/01 at 12:23 pm #40475No, not only you. The website’s been incredibly slow for ages, and now I seem to have the same “Freshness values” problems as you.
When you log in, do you tick “Remember Me”?I’m using Safari on OS 10.9.3 at the moment, but other machines seem to be the same.
2014/06/30 at 12:36 pm #40437Just looking at a few manuals I have:
A&H (Wiz & GL) seem to go for Q=1.8 – (Couldn’t find any figures for my Zed)
Soundcraft (GB4) seem to favour Q=1.5
Midas (Venice) about Q=1.4 (though the stereo line in seems to be about 1)2014/06/25 at 5:43 pm #40380Apologies for iPad fingers!
2014/06/25 at 5:42 pm #40379Imagine you have a really long reverb. If you mut the effects return you may cut off the tail of the reverb, whereas if you mute the send the tail can continue and die naturally.
If we get given DCAs then I’ll be using one of these for my effects returns so that I fade them rather than killing them dead.
Otherwise, I prefer to mute the send, as I think it usually sounds better.2014/06/25 at 11:31 am #40375I’ve posted this before, but I’ll say it again to save others the problem I had a couple of versions back!
I set up for a gig, only to find the new QuPad app had installed, but was unable to connect to the desk with the now out of date firmware. With no computer there, I was stuck. OK, not the end of the world, but I have got very used to setting monitors up from on stage and “walking the room” from time to time.
So, if your iPad is set to automatically update apps, change it so that it doesn’t.
2014/06/16 at 10:35 am #40227Hawk – the QU does not “load recording sessions back” – it has no internal memory available to do this.
2014/06/13 at 2:50 pm #40198Turning the desk off before the disk has finished “doing its thing” is never going to be good. But, half an hour should be more than long enough.
But…
<Warning – There are going to be people out there who know much more about this than I do. I could have worked this out all wrong and be spouting complete rubbish here!>
IIRC Fat32 has a maximum file size of 4Gb and I think your 4 hour recording will be getting very close to that limit (per track). This could well have caused the problem.
I’d certainly stop the recording during breaks between sets if at all possible.
Then again, I’m old enough to remember when we had to change tapes after every 12 minutes or so!
2014/06/12 at 11:34 am #40156Yes
I guess if I wanted AES I’d run a second CAT5 & send it down that, but you can send it on almost any cable really. Some time ago, I seem to remember Canford Audio demonstrating AES down a bit of wet string!
2014/06/09 at 9:51 am #40124I assume that should read UN muted!
Can you hear the delay on headphones if you PFL the FX2 return?
