    Jim,
The “Operator Error” I was referring to was when I played back the tracks, all the gating and compression that I had applied to the live tracks the night before was all still on and applied to the tracks being played back. But since the signal level was different, it sounded terrible. I thought it was recorded that way. It wasn’t. Multitrack is always recorded dry. It was a stupid mistake.

A very good suggestion that will benefit most users.

Yes, the change that they made to shelving is deliberate and documented in the release notes.

I suppose this makes perfect sense. If the drive was already formatted as NTFS (or other), the QU would never be able to read it.

When I first plugged the USB Stick into the mixer, the display indicated it was reading but it never finished.
I tried unplugging the stick and replugging to no avail.
Finally, I restarted the mixer with the USB Stick plugged in and it worked fine.
If you are having trouble reading the drive, try plugging the USB Stick in before switching on. I hope it helps.

This is a known issue with early models and is mentioned in the firmware release notes. You should contact A&H Tech Support.

I don’t think this is a common problem. That might be the reason you haven’t heard too much about it.

I’ve recorded for several hours at different shows without an issue.

Could it be a power problem? Spikes in the AC supply? I always use a Voltage regulator / Power Conditioner.

If I was on stage, this is what I would do.
When using the Qu-Pad, you can create a custom view. You simply drag and drop the channels that you need into position. They don’t have to be in any particular order. Set up a custom view that has the channel strips you will need to access most often and include the FX send or return. Simply press the button on the strip to mute the effect.

If you don’t have one, you might consider buying a clamp that would allow you to clamp the iPad to your mic stand.

P.S. I use an Apple Airport Extreme Router. It has dual bands (2.4 gHz and 5 gHz) so it is less prone to interference. One other thing I always do, no matter what router I use, is to hide it from public view by disabling SSID Broadcast. Otherwise other wireless devices (everyone’s phone in the venue) will query it.

The noise may be coming from ST3. Try muting it while using the Qu-Drive

This is from the Version 1.3 Release Notes:
Some USB noise can be heard on the ST3 input channel when the top panel ST3 mini-jack input is
selected as its source and nothing is plugged in. Mute this channel or turn its fader off when it is
not being used. The noise is not present when an audio source is plugged in.

When you are using the Qu-Pad App to ring out the system or monitors, it shows any frequencies that are feeding back as a red light above the corresponding slider control. See attached image.

Isn’t this part of the Known Issues section of the release notes?

“Some USB noise can be heard on the ST3 input channel when the top panel ST3 mini-jack input is selected as its source and nothing is plugged in. Mute this channel or turn its fader off when it is not being used. The noise is not present when an audio source is plugged in.”

If you mute ST3 while recording, is the noise eliminated?

I’ve used a WD My Passport to record with absolutely no issues. It’s certainly not a pattern. This is the only report I’ve seen. It could be as simple as a bad cable causing the problem.

I don’t think a USB light would cause any problems but I bought the recommended lamp from Allen & Heath. I used to have them on my GL2400 and I liked them because they have a built-in dimmer and they don’t heat up.

My only complaint would be that they only come in one length. They’re a bit long for a small desk. Who knows, someday that may come in handy.

    Hi robbocurry,
I actually have tried it and it worked fine. Last weekend I was at a gig. I carry my setup music and my default scene on a usb stick. I hit the Stereo Record button and recorded a couple of sets. They seem fine to me. I don’t know why the factory advises against it but they must have their reasons. I switched over to a hard-drive later because I had to do a multi-track recording for one of the acts.

My USB Stick is one of the more expensive ones on the approved list. It’s a Scandisk Extreme USB 3 (16GB).

The way I understand it, the custom layer can be set up to send commands to the DAW via USB-b (on the back of the board). I’ve never done it before but the drivers and notes are available on the A&H website. Maybe that will answer your question
