From the Qu-16 User’s manual:
Note – Use a USB hard drive, not a key, for all stereo and multitrack recording2014/03/06 at 3:53 pm #38087Right,
Some boards pop even when muted. It’s in the release notes. Try not to be so smug.2014/03/06 at 3:05 pm #38086I live in “Monitor World” during the summer doing three and four day festivals. Some bands play three or four sets. I always use tape and stage plots to keep track of channels. The hardest part is finding a clean flat surface to store all the tape between sets. By the end of the festival, it’s quite a “scene”. Just having total recall has made my life SO much easier! It took so much longer between acts to try to get everything reset before digital boards! Now, I recall a scene, slap on the tape and I’m ready to go!
I know everyone has different needs but this system suites me fine!
2014/03/06 at 2:46 pm #38085I was on my third Presonus SL24.4.2 when the Qu-16 came out. They had gone down twice in the middle of a show. It’s a great board and I like the workflow better but I wish they had better quality control. In all fairness to them, they are easy to use and their customer relations are excellent. They also have a great support community. I had a 16.4.2 that worked flawlessly.
I had sold my A&H GL series when I went to the Presonus. I was happy to see the new Qu line. I hope they keep their production in the UK and don’t farm it out to some electronics mill in China. If they focus on quality, they’ll win the customer loyalty game.
2014/03/03 at 2:16 pm #37993I really want something that follows the main fader. An effect that didn’t do anything would be an easy solution. The hardest part would be coming up with a name. Of course a delay effect with zero original signal and a single bounce would work fine but you wouldn’t be able to adjust it from the iPad.
I patched from the Alt Out (Set for LR Post Fader) to Stereo 1 Input. I UN-assigned St1 from all but Aux 2 then used Aux 2 Out with the delay. I stood back by the delay speaker and used the iPad to adjust the delay time.
It worked but it’s kind of sketchy. I don’t like patching the back of the board. It makes me nervous.
2014/03/03 at 2:02 pm #37992One last thing.
My Qu-16 has a label on it that says: “Designed in England” “Made in England”. That is why they are so reliable. I bought the Qu series to replace my Presonus boards (a 16.4.2 and a 24.4.2). Even though I loved using them, I was on my third 24 channel mixer. Twice it died in the middle of a show and it didn’t go quietly. I would be willing to bet that most of their reliability issues can be traced directly back to the manufacturing process. When you do live sound, your reputation is on the line. My money is on Allen & Heath. I, for one, was pretty excited when I saw the new Qu-24 with all its new features. I plan on buying one as soon as I can.2014/03/03 at 5:53 am #37988Well, I guess you should go.
Are you really complaining because the Qu-24 doesn’t have thirty-two channels? That doesn’t make much sense to me. Mixers, like automobiles and trucks, have different markets. Allen & Heath already have the larger format market pretty well in hand. This is their attempt to break into the smaller ones. You don’t buy a compact car and then moan when you cannot fit six adults comfortably. Maybe you should buy a thirty-two channel board from Soundcraft and then bitch because it doesn’t have forty-eight.
2014/03/02 at 6:01 pm #37982I tried several of the built in delays. None of them will really return a completely unaffected sound. Oh well, it was worth the effort.
2014/02/25 at 3:48 pm #37938The Release Notes refer to this as a known issue that only affects early models. Tech support has advised me that there is a hardware fix but it will have to be sent in.
2014/02/24 at 8:21 pm #37912I hate to ask the obvious so forgive me but before running Qu-Pad, did you go to Settings -> Wi-Fi and log onto your router from your iPad?
P.S. You may get a better response if you post this in Troubleshooting instead of Qu Feature Suggestions.
2014/02/22 at 2:53 pm #37883You probably saw this in the manual.
The following may be assigned to Mute Groups:
- Mono and stereo Input Channels
- FX Send masters
- FX Return channels
They don’t mention ant outputs.
2014/02/21 at 4:40 pm #37867Are the devices on the list that A&H tested and approved?
2014/02/21 at 2:55 am #37862JimmyDrummer gave you all the right steps assuming that you had already selected the recording and hit play.
2014/02/12 at 5:01 pm #37708I would like to edit or delete my original post. Turns out the recording is just fine. I’m embarrassed to say this was completely operator error. My Bad! I hope it didn’t cause any unnecessary work for the good folks at A&H.
2014/02/12 at 12:01 am #37704I would love to see more OK and Cancel buttons (Or Apply/Cancel) whichever is appropriate for the particular screen.
There are some places, like choosing an Effect for a Rack, where you must make a selection in order to exit that screen. It could be a problem if you start to scroll and then change your mind. Especially if you have forgotten what was originally selected.
It’s not a big deal but it’s the little things that make the difference between a good user interface and a great user interface.
