    Hi All!

I was wondering if the following setup is possible:
    – Avantis at FOH, connected via Slink to a GX4816 stagebox.
    – Waves card installed into Avantis, port 1 going to computer 1 for multitrack recording.
    – Avantis Waves card port 2 going to computer 2 for running plugins with LiveProfessor (for the time being, full Waves setup to be inserted here with server later).
    – Avantis Waves card port 3 going to SQ5 (also with Waves card installed) at MON, so that SQ5 receives all the channels and can act as a monitor mixer, with gains at FOH and trim at MON.

Also, inversely, if it’s possible to have the same setup but with SQ5 at MON connected to the GX4816 via Slink, SQ5 having the gains, Avantis having trim, SQ5 waves card sending all channels to the Avantis.

Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this!

I think you could do all that with two Dante cards (one in the Avantis and one in the SQ) and a couple DVS licenses instead of four Waves cards.

Not sure about the Waves servers, but if you’re running Waves on a computer you can use Dante for that. Native Soundgrid may or may not have a latency advantage, I don’t know, but I’ve seen people set their Waves plugins to use DVS on their laptop and it worked fine.

You don’t need multiple Waves cards in a single console if that is what you are asking (honestly I am unsure if you are talking about separate I/O cards, or just the individual network ports on the Waves I/O card). While you can’t put non-Waves traffic on a network designed for Waves traffic, you can create a stand alone “Waves only” network and connect multiple devices to it. Yes the multiple network ports on the Waves I/O card can be used to “create” this network without requiring an additional network switch, although you can certainly use a stand alone network switch if you need to connect more devices than available network ports. Just be sure to do some research because Waves has been known to be “picky” about what network switches are compatible, so be sure any network switch you choose will actually work with Waves.

Long story short, one Waves card in the Avantis will handle all your recording and plugin requirements (assuming you are using Waves software/drivers to accomplish this). In addition to all of that, you can also use the same Waves card to send audio to and from other consoles (an SQ at monitors for example).

Lastly, the final design question regarding the SQ as a monitor rig will work exactly how you described.
