Once a new Mixpad version becomes available, your ipad will prompt you as long as you have some sort of Internet connection on your ipad.

Everything is very cool with the application. I’m only missing tap tempo feature. You will like it.

I don’t want to sound like a broken turn table, however can A&H comment on the availability of this card in North America territory?
My supplier(Fullcompass) still doesn’t have any word.

Well, do we have any price/availability info on this Dante PCIe card?
I couldn’t locate anything other than Rednet being over $1200.

If there is a PCIe solution, why there isn’t any express card option for laptops…
I don’t get it. It is an awful idea to have to carry a rackmount pc…

Those who have MADI interface, can output another set of stream from IDR by using the secondary port.

The second laptop obviously needs to have MADIFACE express card to accept the stream.

This is what I want to accomplish:
1 laptop is in charge of multitrack recording, therefore latency is not important.
2nd laptop needs to run waves multirack. Latency must be as low as possible without any crackles, farts…

It looks like if I get one more madiface express card I can do that.

I had impression that DANTE would be able to do so without any extra hardware. This is how they advertise by the end. Now Dante is coming to live with crackles. I’m wondering if I should cancel my dante order and go for the second madiface express card.

Well, these numbers suggest that this system won’t cut it if we want to use waves multirack. [V]

    Is anyone on it?

You can assign LR output to his AUX output if LR is the only source he needs. Or you can go to MATRIX way I think.

I can only answer your second question.

Yes, you can use multiple editors, ipads/iphones simultaneously.

I don’t have a surface, so I usually deal with 2 ipads, and 1-2 editors on tablet PCs.

Somewhere in the documentation I remember reading you can connect up to 18(?) devices to mix engine. It all depends how robust is your wired & wireless network. Multicasting is also another long topic when dealing with multiple network devices.

I also remember reading somewhere the inability to control xDR gains from mixpad. I don’t think it applies to editor.

Android app is a necessity, not a “good to have thing”.
We all saw what happened with iphone vs android phones.

There is no reason we shouldn’t expect the same thing to happen in 6 to 12 months.

It would be nice to know if there is an intention to release an android app, if yes, a time frame…

    Thank you.

At my last gig it disappeared twice on my idontpad2 16GB. I’ll use it again tonight for an unimportant gig. We will see how it will behave again. I only used it 4 times until now.

If it crashes I simply start and wait for everything to update again :(

One thing that annoys me is that the initial update rate on channels is too slow. And it doesn’t update unless you visit the channel. This has nothing to do my wi-fi setup. I’m very anal when I setup my wi-fi at a venue. I always scan environment and pick the best available wi-fi channel. No auto-selecting.

So to overcome, once the app is online, I have to visit/scroll everything at least once to make sure they received current information before doing anything. My Le1700 still sits and available in case of emergencies like app crashes. Unfortunately, it refused to update at all a few times and had to reboot idontpad2.

I don’t recall if anybody from A&H commented about MixPad for ANDROID platform. Almost every current/upcoming Android tablet hardware(RAM especially) is superior than idontpad2. So… Another 100bucks I guess if it is happening…

I also experienced app crashes while assigning channels in custom screen.

Any idea if there will be any update any soon for mixpad?

I don’t have a surface, I do everything from Le1700 and trying to shift to mixpad since last month as much as I can.

    A tap-tempo button is a must.
If you have to deal with almost 64 channels(32 for house mix, 32 for monitor mixes) no matter how you design your customs and align channels, it is a pain in the butt to quickly get to certain channels.

We have to give credits to yamaha stagemix app for quickly accessing to those channel groups. But bigger credits to A&H for making such an advanced mixing app. I’m hoping they will realize Android platform as an important venue and develop android version of mixpad with more functions.
You can tell that I’m not an apple guy.

Since there is no DEMO option for this app, does anybody know if there is a youtube video with a nice & lengthy demonstration of this mixpad thingy?

Are you trying to accomplish something like “waves multirack native”?

I use tablet PC. I don’t have surface control. So this is my experience:

I have seen this “system busy” message several times. Actually I wrote here once to complain about it while we were on 1.6x. I was thinking of the lousy java programming being the root of the problem. It can still be part of the problem.

Most of the time I was able to relate this problem to my wi-fi connection.

This is what I do to minimize the occurrence of this annoyance:

Every time I go to a venue I scan the venue’s wi-fi traffic with this simple droid application called “wifi analyzer” and select the best rated wi-fi channel on the wi-fi router. Since I started doing this, I (almost) stopped seeing system busy messages.
It still happened a few times here there. But I think it could be something like a momentary network congestion/packet collusion kinda thing. I’m on 1.71 and last night I saw system busy message only once which didn’t stay more than 3 seconds.

Statistically speaking, if I place the router below head level, I see more of those messages. So I try to stick wi-fi router on top of one of the mains whenever I can.

I also realized that dd-wrt on my router allows me to select channels 12,13,14.
For those who live in the States, our channel range stops at channel#11.
But my motion computing LE1700 doesn’t have any problem connecting to channels beyond 11. However my HP 2710p tablet pc refuses to see the SSID if it is beyond channel 11. I just figure it out 2 days ago.

Having said that I still remember seeing system busy messages while I was connected with a CAT5 cable. I haven’t connected via CAT5 since September, so I cannot comment if the new firmware makes any difference.

I’m able to fit 2 input windows on my tablet screen:1-32 for main house mix and 33-64 for monitors. I also have custom strip window and stereo matrix list(tops/subs/center fills) stand alone. Everything fits nicely on my motion computing LE1700. It is essential to have direct access to all input faders all the time. I’m not convinced yet any ipad editor will be able to beat tablet pc & pen combination. Yes, I can only do/move one thing at a time, but it looks like you can only move 2-3 faders at a time on ipad and they must be located in the same 8ch group.(I only saw yamaha’s app at this point.)

So, I can’t wait to hear more about this tactile control solution.

For those who cannot afford surface control(like me) and have to do everything from a tablet, life is a little bit different than those who only have to use computer while line checking/monitor eq’ing. So, I’m still not convinced how this ipad solution will change my vision.

I still think it is more important to release an iMonitor app for iphone. A&H will be clearly distinguished from the rest of the market with that option. We have tons of musicians with iphones and when you do things from a tablet pc if you can let 2-3 people do their own monitors from the stage, it helps a lot while mixing a 15 piece band with 7 wedges+2 IEMs.

Since I switched to IDR32 from LS9 I asked the keyboard player to bring his netbook and I let him adjust his vocal and keyboards in his monitor.
There are so many different situations/scenarios where letting a musician do his/her monitor mix can lead to trouble, however it is one heck of option if we had it!!!

I haven’t seen A&H ipad app yet, therefore my expectations might be wrong. So 2 more months we will all know.
