does seem to disconnect every few minutes, but maybe I’m not doing something correctly.

Hm usualy it should keep the connection alive all the time. Might be a bad wifi signal. I plan to change the networking stack so it just reconnects in the background automatically.

What does the paid version add? I plan on purchasing it, just because I’m so grateful, but was wondering what it would gain.

    Thanks!
A comparison table can be found here:
    https://bugs.dev-core.org/w/ms/qu/pro_free/

Note: The next update will also add customizable UI and USB midi support which is also only available in the pro version.

My question for David, am I correct that I could run this app and one Qu-Pad app at the same time,

Yes you can 🙂 It’s possible to use 1 Android und 2 iPads at the same time.

If I just hit cancel I could still control the desk but I got no feed back from the desk. The level meters wouldn’t show anything but I could still change the levels on each channel.

Also the Send/fader button was confusing at first, I would like to have all the mixes listed seperatley down the right hand side so I can get to them in less presses. But that’s just me, otherwise looking good and it could replace the Ipad in my setup.

When the connection is lost it’s required to reconnect. That’s just how the protocol works.

With the next update it will be possible to create custom UI elements (buttons, labels) and assign actions to them like changing the sends on fader bus.

So does this app replace the Apple version? I don’t want to go out and buy an iPad, if I don’t have to.

I just downloaded it, about to give it a go, but does it have TalkBack ability to wirelessly talk to the stage via the Android phone’s internal mic?

It depends on which functionality you want to use. It’s (currently) not possible to access the FX parameters, as well as some configuration parameters of the mixer. This is due the midi protocol limitation.
Talkback function is not possible because the Qu can’t receive audio via network steam.

I have an issue where I connect to a QU-24 with firmware 1.82 and my faders on the app are all at the lowest instead of mirroring the levels they are at on the mixer. Shouldn’t the app display where my faders are to?

    Hi,
Yes the app should get the data from the mixer. I only have access to a Qu-16 for testing but before the last release the app was fully tested on the Qu-24 and 32 so I’m not sure whats the issue here.
I’m currently on vacation but I will take a look at it as soon as I get back home.

Does the “Sync” popup appear? (The one with the 0-100% progress bar). The bar itself isn’t moving because the sync usualy happens too fast.

I just got the Pro version for QU-24 and like it. Is there any way to rename the Monitor Mix Channels? Example, Mix 1 = Drummer’s monitor, Mix 2 = Joe’s monitor, etc…

That way, I wouldn’t have to constantly memorize which number mix belongs to whom. (I run for different bands and it changes frequently.) Thanks.

    Sure there is:
The names shown in the Mix selection represent the names of the Mix channels.
So renaming the Mix channels will solve your problem. (Just press and hold a channel button to rename a channel)

But i don’t want to upgrade to 1.8 as there is an issue where you have to enter the Admin password to use Qu-pad and therefor all of the techs would know the Admin password for the desk too, which i don’t want. Is there a way around this to enable your app to work with version 1.7?

In the beginning the app was designed for 1.7 but because of some missing features in the midi protocol the minimum firmware version had to be increased to 1.8. So no, there is no way around this limitation, sorry!
Note: This app also needs the admin password in order to connect to the mixer, but now that I think about it it might be an idea to add some sort of “remember password” function so you only need to enter it once. Would this help?

Not sure what ping and fing mean?
But shouldn’t the mixing station ap IP address be set to same address as the Qu-24 and router in order to control the desk remotely?

The IP in Mixing Station should be the IP of the Qu-24.
The router must have another IP address! It it not possible to use the same IP on multiple devices.

I want to make sure if the issue is caused by the network or by the app. Therefore you need to ping the IP address of the Mixer (Qu-24).
To do that, you can use the app “Fing Network Tools” which can be found in Google Play. It lists all devices in the current network and allows you to see if the phone can reach the mixer.

David i tried connecting my Galaxy S5 phone using your ap (via wifi using Archer C2 router)but it keeps coming up with ‘failed to connect’ message. I am currently using this router for ipad wireless control of our Qu-24 with Qu-pad, and i set the IP address on your ap to the same IP address of the Qu-24 and router (192.168.1.60) but no joy ??

Can you ping the mixer from your phone?
For this you can use the app “Fing Network Tools”.
It should show the IP of the mixer.

just been trying this App and its great thanks for your work , I am having a connection problem where the app will sync to the desk then as soon as I change page on the app it is no longer synced, will sometimes still control desk but everything is at zero . I’m using static IP and a laptop with Droid4x, also tried on my droid phone and it will control desk but fails to sync any ideas?

Which mixer model do you have?
The app only changes to the mixer view when the sync data was fully received so I’m not sure whats going on here.

What message comes up when you try to connect your phone?
Keep in mind that only one instance of the app can be connected at a time.

David it looks a great ap, well done.
At the moment we are using the A&H Qu-Pad on iPad but i will try your ap on my Samsung S5 phone on Sunday. I am playing with your ap offline and have a few queries:
I can’t figure how to adjust gain and PEQ on the channels. How is this done? Also re the Layers, if i go into Layer Ch1-8 and hold and into Edit i can’t do anything with the channels. So what is the function of the Layers and how to use them. Is it like the Custom Layer on the Qu-24 console ?

You need to press on the channel button in order to open the channel overview.
There you can access the gain and other stuff like the PEQ.

When press and hold a layer button it opens the layer edit view. There you can configure the layers by dragging the channels or pressing the “+” menu button to add more channels to a layer.

Wow, I just downloaded the free version of your app on my phone. Even though I don’t have a QU series console yet, I will be purchasing the pro version. This app is incredibly easy to use and has a great workflow. It is amazing that you were able to do this in your free time. I think everyone who will use this app should purchase it.

I’m thinking out loud here, but would a good feature to suggest be different users? For example, a small church will be purchasing a QU-Pac in the next year or so. When one of the sound guys go in to mix, they should have full functionality. However, I would only give most users just the ability to mute and control the faders. Is this something that many people would want, or is it just me? (the users would be on the tablet in this scenario. The tablet will live with the console and be used by multiple people)

Thank you for all of your hard work in making this app for android a reality. I’m sure that many people here are rejoicing at the ability to use an android device instead of spending a bunch of money on an Apple device.

    Thanks! 🙂

I already thought about access restriction within the app but I don’t have a concept yet. Might take some time as this is a rather complex thing to implement.
Currently I’m working on a more customizable mixer UI as well as usb midi integration for the Qu version of the app.

How can I donate without having a google account? Can I buy a pro version without the google account?

You can buy it on amazon if you don’t have a google account 🙂

Good work David, Had a play in offline mode and like it a lot, will get the Pro version too. Not hooked it up to my QU-16 yet but will soon. Very similar in use to the app produced by Behr***** which I use with my XR16 so that’s a bonus!

    Thanks!
The XR series app are also produced by myself – just for them.

    @nzdave

Can you ping the IP address of mixer from your computer?

If yes, can you try downloading the app “Fing network tools” in the emulator and test if it finds the IP of the mixer. If it doesn’t find the IP it’s a emulator network issue.

If your pc can’t ping the mixer make sure all addresses are set correctly. When directly connecting the mixer you must assign a static IP address to the mixer, as well as to your pc.

    Hi,

I’m using Genymotion but it’s designed for developers.
For just running apps I would recommend Droid4X as it also has play store access.
Note that the “Search” functionality of the app might not work when using an android emulator.

You can either connect the mixer directly to the Qu or use a wifi AP.

Great job in developing the app!
I’ve just loaded the free version (don’t worry, paid one plus donation coming up when I update my card details with Amazon!)
Just wondering if the input/output metering are features of the paid app as they aren’t showing in the free version on the channel strips, mix outputs, LR etc.
Everything else seems to work, buttons, faders et al but no “feedback” from the inputs to the Amazon Fire I’m using.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks again for your hard work!

    Thanks!

The input/output metering is also available in the free version.
When using the free version, are the meter bars visible at all or are they just not being updated?

Also the “allow bus processing access” setup button shouldn’t make any difference. It’s used for the XM32 version where the access can be restricted to a single bus. By enabling this option the user also gets access to the processing that bus.

Hi, it looks as though the excellent Android Mixing station QU and Mixing Station QU Pro are now available from the Google play store.

Yes, it’s also available on amazon now:
    Pro
    Free
