    @wolfgang
Yes I agree. and also for many other variables as well. as Per below
Unfortunately I do not own or have access to a DLive [I Wish]
@dave, Its nice to see someone thinking & expressing themselves outside of the toolbox!
Often FOH desk operators or the person running the sound who often owns the equipment is told “oh you’re a 5th 7th 9th member of the band!”
The soundies’ or sound engineer often has huge pressure put on them from not only the musicians performers buy also the audience gathered around the FOH desk!
In a past life I have been a musician running multiple modified guitar synths with guitars using multiple VCAs and analogue pedals and just to look at some performers now using both feet whilst playing. And adjusting the FOH simultaneously so to me being able to manipulate other tasks is pretty much the norm!
I do not own a DLive [oh I wish] however the circumstances do not permit that.
I do recall both hands on a 40 channel mixing desk in a studio and also a foot moving a fader at the other end of the desk!
If there is a few things that I have noticed from live sound is the need for monitor engineers to now perform multiple adjusts in-ear per song at performers requests.
Also being able to setup extremely quickly in this digital era and arena with one plug cat 5/6/~10/E or what ever I have noticed the sound ops or engineers or musicians out FOH can be that member of that performing group.

So.. @dave are you thinking like a pedal board that plugs into a mixing desk?
I use a pedal board, with a mixing desk built in! It used to be a Zed10fx but as performing it is not acceptable to lean down whilst standing to make tweaks to the FOH desk at your foot level!
I’m now playing a stringed instrument and operating foot controllers and the occasional tweak via Bluetooth.
@dave, I don’t think that you are far away from wanting more than a tap tempo PLUS a few VAC controls PLUS scene change PLUS reverb time PLUS Ping from side to side…. and what ever else! Multiple pedals, and I’m not talking high end digital consoles but at middle level and up.
I doubt if you will see this type of scenario on high level mixing desks but who knows?
    That’s about me.
    Cheers

Personally I would recommend a QU 32 mixer as an upgrade from an analogue mixer
The QU series were designed with exactly this reason as a transition from A to D
They’re a perfect layout and are totally stable operating system and can be easily used with out any tweaks from new right out of the box!
You can grow with them and also use the free app.

One thing I did not do was re-format the drive fresh for the show..?

In all of the years I have used the Q Drive to record to,I ALLWAYS formatted in the desk before a show.
Sure I don’t have an SQ only used multiples of QU but never had any issues

The QU32 is a wonderful digital desk. Its stable!
    24bit 48k fixed
    I know… I had 4 of them and 4 QU16s
Used in a studio scenario and to Very LOUD and mountains of people.
However it will not do what a

HUI DAW controller (I was considering an SSL UF8

    will do.
It dose not have touch sensitive faders!
I used them with both Imacs and windows using USB2
I used them for 3 years doing this

I think it depends an what you want to exactly do.
    Price point they are brilliant!
    Reliability Brilliant!
Crossing over from Anologue desks to Digital : Brilliant!
If there is anything else you want to know PM me.

Without asking a lot of questions… to me this sounds like your music may be out of phase which may be giving you a cancellation.

    Yup I agree Coffee_King
I spent 3 months side by side putting the QU right next to the GSR24 and did the comparison thing duplicating the qu to what the analogue did.
Its a mind shift specially for an older dud like myself.

    Perfect Doc
You took the words right out of my mouth!
I remember when I got my 1st QU16 I interfaced it with my GL desk as an effects unit only using the 4 efx within the QU as a send and receive whilst I was getting to know it.
The transition from analouge to digital was quite huge coming from the GL range.:)

No There is no way to switch between Line and mic on any channel input
They are both connected and you use the gain and pad control to adjust what ever is required to obtain the correct level.

The QU sends 32 out USB/B and receives 32 IN USB/B
    Its a fixed format
    32/32

I only ever got that distortion noise when I used too many plugins on both PC and Mac [whilst multi-tracking]
Can I ask what is the DAW you were using and was the same sample rate on the PC through all stages from USB ? To keep that the same as the QU ?
