    Hi all,

@fgrillet if the power switch on Qu is always on and you cut the power with an external switch or breaker, Qu will automatically restart when power is supplied again.

@xapbob I’ll add this to the list of feature requests. Standard shutdown procedure requires a confirmation. This would have to be worked in.

    Thanks.

Hi All, the flickering of the touchscreen after firmware update is no cause for concern at all.

This due to the power state of the mixer and touchscreen on reboot at update and subsides after a few seconds.

Be aware that a hard reset will clear all settings to their factory defaults. If you don’t have the state of the mixer saved to a scene of show file, you may lose these settings.

    Thanks.

Hi Stasoid, have you tried calibrating the faders so see if this resolve the issue?
I like to use a straight edge to line up all of the faders to the points in the calibration nicely.
    How old is the unit?
I’m not sure where these screws might have come from, have you checked closely inside the chassis to see of they’ve come out of anywhere?
    Thanks,
    Harry.

Hi skippy, these are some minor fixes, primarily this was to fix an issue where Qu-Pad prevents the mixer’s outputs from being delayed by more than 85ms, as mentioned in the v1.80 Release Notes here: https://www.allen-heath.com/media/Release-Notes-Qu-firmware-V1.80.pdf

Qu-Pad 1.81 will work with firmware v1.80, though there will be a maintenance firmware update released shortly which will improve some minor issues in the mixer itself.

As with all Qu firmware updates as long as the first number after the decimal matches in both mixer firmware and Qu-Pad versions they will be compatible.

Always wise to ask though. πŸ™‚

    Cheers.
    Harry.

Hi John, this shouldn’t be a problem and you’ll benefit from the great new features in v1.8.
The first iPad is no longer supported by Apple and can’t be updated past iOS5. Anything later that this will be fine.

You may be able to restore from an iPad backup: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521?locale=en_GB this is risky and you may find that a backup has been overwritten since…

    1. Qu firmware updates won’t overwrite scenes stored in the mixer, but make a backup onto a USB key to be extra safe.
You can use the same key to update the firmware too.

Plug in a USB key which can be erased into the Qu-Drive port.
Go to SETUP > UTILITY > QU-DRIVE and press FORMAT.
Once this has been done the same key can be used to save the show file and copy the firmware update file to.
Go to USB DATA > SHOWS and press STORE NEW (To USB). This show file will contain all of the scenes currently in the mixer.
You can then download the Qu v1.8 Chrome update here: https://www.allen-heath.com/key-series/qu-series/?download=10038
Now plug the USB key into your computer and copy the .QUU firmware file to the root drive of the key.
Once this is done put the key back into the Qu-Drive port and go to SETUP > UTILITY > FIRMWARE
The mixer should show “Found V1.8*.****”
    If it does, press UPDATE!
The screen will go blank and the softkeys will flash in sequence.
When this is complete the mixer will reboot automatically.
Do not remove power or the USB device during the firmware update until the mixer has completed the process and rebooted completely.

    2. No data is saved in Qu-Pad, it uses 2 way control messages to communicate with the mixer, so no worries here.
If you load a scene Qu-Pad should follow the scene settings.

Let me know if you need any more help. πŸ™‚

Hi @noisyloft, there is a video tutorial on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8opaijoJbY
If you wish to return audio from Pro Tools into a stereo channel, set the global USB source to USB B Streaming, Select just ST1 and set source to USB. In your DAW this will appear as Ch 25-26, so you will need to set your DAW main out to Ch 25-26.
You will then need to send ST1 to the Main LR mix.
Let me know if you need any more help.

@wmrand68 Hi Wayne, did you manage to resolve this issue?
If not I’d suggest going through Qu Router Setup steps: https://youtu.be/TgqOVdwvscA
Let me know if this solves the problem.

Hi Hanroux, from Qu firmware v1.7+ you can assign QuDrive Stereo Rec functions Stop, Play/Pause and Arm in Qu’s Setup > Control > Softkeys menu. Each function will have to be assigned to a different softkey, but I’ve just checked this in v1.8 and all is working well!
    Hope this helps.

Hi all, firstly ambience is most important in broadcast and recording applications, however it’s also important for smooth, natural sounding operation of AMM.

I have setup a test as you’ve described, and find if the sig gen input gain is too high, it reduces the gain of the mic channels too much so you don’t get optimal gain structure. Setting the sig gen input channel too low causes a similar effect to gating these mic channels. The threshold is not always reached meaning that audio doesn’t pass through and you hear ‘chopping’.

I will be doing a little more investigation over the next day or so and will let you know my findings.

    Thanks.
    Harry.

Hi Creator, you would just need to connect the local stereo output of ME-1 to the inputs of your IEM transmitter.
This way the user can have ME-1 flexibility and wireless freedom in their monitoring. This solution is used by Philip Selway on tour: https://www.allen-heath.com/radioheads-philip-selway-uses-allen-heaths-ilive-coachella-set/

β€œOn this leg of the tour we are using an iLive-T112 surface, an iDR-48 and a ME-U with five ME-1 personal mixers. They are all using in-ear monitoring, which is fed from their individual ME-1s.”

You can either power each ME-1 with the DC PSU, and daisy-chain the units over CAT5 (there is no limit to the number of units that can be chained), you could use ME-U hub or a thrid-party PoE switch.

There are some recommendations for the type of switch in this knowledge base article: https://allen-heath.helpserve.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/702/175/me-1-compatibility-with-a-third-party-switch

As long as you are using good quality shielded audio and CAT5 cables, running a stereo analogue cable alongside your CAT5 to each ME-1 unit will be perfectly fine.

    Hope this helps!

Hi lesouvage, thanks for the compliments!

Qu AMM uses the Qu β€˜D-Classic’ constant gain sharing algorithm to dynamically adjust gain for each channel in proportion to its input level and priority setting.

Louder signals receive more gain in the mix while quieter ones receive less and the overall gain remains the same.

Mics set with higher priority get a larger share of the gain and when no one is speaking, gain sharing maintains background ambience.

There’s more info on pages 63-65 of the Qu Mixer Reference Guide here: https://www.allen-heath.com/media/Qu-Mixer-Reference-Guide-AP9372_8.pdf

There will also be a YouTube video tutorial on setting up Qu AMM available very shortly!

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Nebonts, which DAW application are you using?
You need to set the outputs from the software to the corresponding channel of the mixer.
There is a video tutorial here which might help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8opaijoJbY

Important note for Qu-You for Android users – V1.80 Qu-You for Android is not yet available. Do not update your mixer if you rely on Qu-You for Android for personal monitoring. We will make V1.80 of Qu-You for Android available as soon as possible – please check back for updates.
