I’ve got an Ipad. It does some things great but won’t do other things at all.

Most of my customers have Windows products. Android pads are owned by many people, some of whom may become my customers. I’d like to offer them a product that will work well with whatever sort of tablet or laptop they have.

I work with a 2800 seat theater that needs a new console. I think the GLD80 would be a better solution for their event list than the Roland M480 (which I also represent)but the state of play with firmware, stage box options etc. are pushing this sale to Roland. I think the A&H sounds better and has a smarter layout for an experienced user but there are issues……

Because the system is stable (no freezes since December), everybody is happy with it’s week to week performance and:

*I don’t want to spend an afternoon recalibrating the touch screen
*I want to install the version with the 14 character and other
    scene save issues
*I don’t need to have the ipad app to get from one week to the next

I’m keeping 1.02 and waiting to update until 1.1.x is available.

Long as we’re wishing, I’d like a windows app and a steak dinner, while we’re at it.

I’m interested and I have some questions. I appreciate any additional information. So that I might avoid this disruption.

Is this after the update to 1.1?

How many tracks were you recording?

Was the scene save done during recording or during a break?

Have you contacted local distribution or A&H corporate tech support yet? What did they say?

I’m guessing some condition of the scene file reacting with the recording software is the root issue in this story.

It seems that a hard reboot (using the power switch or pull the mains cable) forcing the unit to completely rebuild it’s software o/s is the only thing that clears a vapor lock condition. I’m certain that tech support would never encourage a user to yank the plug. I of course, have never done such a thing with an expensive piece of electronics gear (cough, cough, look at my shoes)[;)]

Best of luck with your work.

    Thank you for posting.

I haven’t done the firmware update yet (it’s on my calender for tomorrow night) but I may wait for 1.02.1

What do you guys think? I won’t have an Ipod to use for another week or so anyway.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

This is probably too late to help your current situation.

I suggest booting the desk without the the outboard units hooked up.

If it boots with a default show file and operates correctly, you could then try booting again and adding the snake boxes attaching one at a time in between boots, to identify if it is a core issue on the desk, a connection to one of the boxes or an issue with a bad outboard box.

Over the years, I have encountered other proprietary networked systems where one bad connection or device can bring down the system.

    Best of luck.

    From dark freeze thread.
    12/20/2012
I was called by a customer tonight about a situation that occurred during a rehearsal.
The customer saved a scene and things looked odd. The scene list was changed or had reverted to an earlier list. So…..
The customer hit the help button for help. Touch screen went dark and the surface was locked. Mute buttons, talk back button etc. wouldn’t work. Audio throughput was maintained. The customer called me and I told him to hard reset and reload the show file.

    Normal operation returned.

The Aviom system continued to pass audio, the d snake 2412 and 84 continued to pass audio.

I’m only guessing but….. I think the OS gacked due to a memory allocation issue or a software problem that ran it out of memory. It was working fine after reboot two hours later so it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue.

there is an old post of mine about it:
    https://iliveforum.allen-heath.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2072
never happened again, though (but never seen an official answer by A&H too..)

    regards
    Massimo

This condition hasn’t happened since with over 40 hours of operation.

It happened to us in Dec with no flash drive present. I’m guessing it’s a RAM reservation/allocation issue in the control OS which can be triggered by saving presets, show files and asking for help files too often between boots.

I haven’t tried to crash it on purpose yet but I’ll wager that I can crash it by repeatedly doing those operations.

    Let’s see, I’ll bet a dollar against a doughnut.

    Any takers?
