I back up everything to the show file frequently. It helps guard against memory weirdness.

No separate “config” files mean you have to either build each scene from scratch or save a couple of “template” scenes with all button assigns, talk back, strip assigns, inserts and aviom settings etc.

I stick template scenes at the end of list. Then recall the template modify levels and save to the useful scene slot which you can recall from one key on the surface.

As an alternate method you can save different looks to a “template show” file then recall, modify and save to the working show file.

I can’t wait until you can do this stuff with a laptop and blow it in with the usb key.

    In church soundguy speak:

A DCA is just a remote control (master) to which you assign members (slaves – things to be controlled by one master slider or button)

Slaves can belong to more than one master – but it can confuse the slaves and make them unpredictable.

    Can I get an Amen?!

It just needs to catch up now to the presonus in the app side of things.

I’m hopeful you’ve got the inside rail on the info Chris.

’cause I’m like a dog begging for a bone to get a computer way into this mixer.

You seem to be missing the editor app from A&H[:D]

    In friendly reply to:

Rexeltw Just remember kids no matter how good your mixing is you can’t polish a turd…

Of course you can and that is quite often what the job actually is.
You can polish a turd you can even make it shine.
It is much harder, however, to make it smell good!

    On topic-

from Stealth in the ethernet control thread: Hi Peter

I’m afraid you cannot currently conrol Aux Send levels via TCP/IP control, only the master aux levels. This is on the feature request list for future firmware.

    Regards
    Sam A&H

I’m guessing this means that the protocol for the communication with various parts of the software (meter levels – level changes in plug ins etc) hasn’t been finished. Because of that a PC/Ipad control program/ offline editor won’t be until after a major firmware upgrade. The last firmware upgrade was June! So after the new firmware (someday)then they’ll write the control app then Apple will approve it (which I’m told is a whole other dog and pony show). In short, if you are holding your breath you’ll be very blue before this thing gets fleshed out. (info com, next summer, who knows?)

As evidence for my pessimism, we now, 11.5 months after release, have a sort of manualish pdf thing, that isn’t yet even called a manual!

After reading the new manual (that isn’t called a manual), I think I know how to structure my feature request.

Please add “Strip Assign”‘, “talk back” and “softkey assign” to scene safes.

Please add “Strip, insert, FX and I/O Assign” as a new type of scene.

Please add a feature called “Paste Levels” to scene.

They are picky about USB drives. They don’t tolerate any bloatware on the stick.

You can make the usb part of the board unresponsive until you reboot by doing something the board doesn’t like with the drive. I’m sure it’s fixed with the M-480s / I don’t think the M-400 is current. We have got two in rental so I use one from time to time. Not a perfect product but it’s got some good attributes and it’s an easy, light and rugged 40 channels. We use it a lot for things that need lots of iso press feeds. I like their PC gui. In a pinch, you can use it for simultaneous on stage monitor mixing with only one desk.

I think Roland’s PC app is much better than Yamaha’s Studio Manager. Although, the good thing about Studio Manager is, as far as the gui goes, a PM5d works exactly like an 01v96i. With an Avid Profile the gui and the desk are not separable. Whatever. All this stuff does some things really well and some things not as well….

    pretty soon it’s Monday again.

Interesting. Thank you for the post.

The console had no USB at the time of this incident but during the most recent period of use it did have one. I removed it at the end of that session to purge/copy files.

It’s also possible to gack a Roland M-400 with a usb drive although doesn’t result in a complete freeze of control function.

I think I’ll spare myself the “fun” of a formal case file etc. on what seems to be a very isolated situation that will prolly be healed by a firmware upgrade and continue to crowd source info.

    Thanks again.

The Aviom system continued to pass audio, the d snake 2412 and 84 continued to pass audio.

I’m only guessing but….. I think the OS gacked due to a memory allocation issue or a software problem that ran it out of memory. It was working fine after reboot two hours later so it doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue.

I’ll be working with it two hours Saturday and four hours Sunday so we’ll see. (I bet I’ll update the show file and backup to USB frequently and reboot between services prolly, Huh.)

The console had been backed up to the show file before being shut down on Sunday evening. It had been unused until the beginning of the Wednesday rehearsal.

The power management scheme presently interrupts power to the board after the console goes through it’s shut down procedure. Do you think this is correct or do you think that the console should be shut down with it’s power switch and left with mains power feeding it?

I would like a “update layout to scene” capability. After you build a new layer configuration you like, It would be great to be able to update a scene to the new configuration without having to build it through eight layers (4 x A, 4 x B)

    Damn thing sounds great though.

After nearly 30 days in use, the board and interfaces are stable as hell.

Time to check the web site for the GUI

    Still not posted!![:(]

It is much more than a minor inconvenience to not have a PC orApple
GUI to work with. When you are trying to help an inexperienced operator learn the board and you have two people poking at an 8inch touch screen to do everything it’s a pain in the butt.

The GLD80 sounds great with very phat mic pres, super D to A and good comp/EQ/reverb plugs.

I just wish I didn’t feel like an unpaid beta tester half the time I’m using the board.

Mother May I? steer an Aux to the USB recorder after some firmware change?[:D]
