I almost wonder whether a proxy would be easier – so you connect a proxy (maybe something running on a Raspberry Pi (other low cost hardware is available) which connects to the QU-* and allows connections from multiple devices – so band members could have “mix n” login, and FOH could have everything – maybe with a second connection showing the RTA and meters?
2014/09/19 at 1:34 pm #41741My desk is out at the moment, but I’ll try to record what I hear – it’s a longer/louder version of the initial spike of noise on the above recording, without the “tail”
2014/09/19 at 9:29 am #41736Just for completeness I should point out that my recording was from a completely separate system, so it’s not necessarily introduced at the recording stage.
2014/09/12 at 10:34 am #41569Just for public update, it’s a seagate 1TB disk and on second format (as sensibly requested by A&H) it stalled at 100%.
I suggest that after the QuDrive light turns off at 99/100% a shutdown followed by a reboot is a sane course of action.
2014/09/12 at 9:27 am #41566Did you do a soft shutdown or a hard shutdown?
2014/09/12 at 9:25 am #41565Similarly if there are only 8 channels in the directory then just play back 8 channels, there should be no need to duplicate the files to get to the point where you have 18.
You could even play back “interspersed” tracks (so if I have a track 1,3,5,6,7 recorded then play those back on those channels (and I’ll have live inputs on 2,4 and 8+
2014/09/11 at 9:32 am #41540They don’t have to – but there as you say there is nowhere obvious that the DCA effect is shown (Actually isn’t there a virtual DCA lamp on the channel strip on the iPad already, as a hint – can’t recall if the same is available on screen as part of the channel processing screen (don’t have either available at the moment).
User error on a multi layered desk is often tricky to find, since there are so many places to look – you’ll likely look at the DCAs pretty fast next time, but I still think that a relatively simple software change could make it easier for other people not to fall into the same trap – Good UI design starts with “User error” and continues with “How can we make it easier to avoid that error”…
The Channel processing screen is probably a good place for this – there are already a couple of things (compressor/gate) which impact a GR monitor – the DCA(s) could also be represented (in a similar fashion, but probably separate since the signal is affected at a different point in the stream)
Not a bug, but a reasonable feature request to improve the UI.
2014/09/11 at 6:11 am #41534Are you using ASIO drivers and the USB B connection, or are you hooking in via an analogue card on the PC?
Edit:
D’Oh – the title says USB…There is a trim setting on the desk, there might be similar on the PC (do the normal volume controls affect the USB streaming levels?)
2014/09/11 at 6:09 am #41533Interesting – might not be Qu-Drive specific:
I had the same with USB B streaming.
(Haven’t had the opportunity to try the XLR outputs though (currently it’s at home plugged into a hifi amp for testing/familiarisation)
2014/09/11 at 6:07 am #41532I wonder if the iPad app (and/or screen) could show “ghost” faders which account for DCAs?
2014/09/11 at 6:05 am #41531I also had this – playback via USB B, everything else muted. It was intermittent but frequent, the duration was also inconsistent.
As my QU16 is new I was playing back a previously multi track recorded gig to familiarise myself with the mixer, using Ardour on a Linux box.
I was using the Alt Out – was the OP?2014/09/11 at 5:57 am #41530Agreed – I can now actually browse.
Took a while, but it’s worth it now…2014/09/02 at 1:00 pm #41479Offline editing is really useful for people who hire desks…
It’s a valuable tool, and not one to underestimate…
2014/08/26 at 2:54 pm #41443This and remote PFL would also be good.
I wonder if a Bluetooth headset could be abused, patched into the mixer to push sound to and from the iPad?
2014/08/26 at 2:52 pm #41442I’d really like to see this as well.
I’m likely to be leaving the mixer on stage and doing all the real work via remote control. Two main use cases I envisage:
– Musicians having a cut down “more me” mixer on their stands (even an phone based app)
– Me having a second screen available, displaying the meters page, and the RTA, at all times. -
