I use CQ18T as a mixer for silent (IEM) rehearsals with each of the 5 band members controlling their mix.

However, CQ18T only has 3 (stereo-linked) outputs, so I am using the two headphone jacks as outputs too, but these cannot be individually mixed. It would be great if those 2 headphone outputs could be mixed as a regular output.

We use stereo effects on the keyboards and guitar, and the quality difference between listening in mono and stereo is huge.

On top of that, if each of the 1-6 outputs could be selected as non-balanced stereo, that would be awesome!

+ 1 for being able to assign the alt output as standalone outputs!

headphone output and independent output, 8 outputs (6 linkable mono and 2 stereo) + main LR

    Hi all,

The number of input and output channels is determined by the available processing/routing in the core. The CQ core can mix to the Main LR and 6 independent outputs only.
We added the ability to use the headphone outputs to hear other outputs rather than just the Listen bus (for monitoring the Main LR or individual channels) so they could be used for monitoring on stage or in the studio.
The Alt Out on the CQ-20B is similar and provides an alternative output connection type, but is not a separate channel/bus in the core.
So I’m sorry but it’s not the case that because sockets exist, we can simply add in extra channels.

    Thanks,
    Keith.

Thank you for the reply Keith. Would the cores allow for the Main LR to be assignable as independent output mix busses? Or is that not possible either?

    Many thanks

    Hi Keith,
tnx for the info! The ability to use the headphone from other outputs could be very useful. I guess for “mix” you means all the processing (eq, gate and so on). I also wished to add to the phones not an entire “mix”, just a sum of already processed channel (instead of listening to one channel, maybe it could sum the selected listening channel). Or something like mute group, routing the group (without “mixing” with additional, level, panning and so on…) to phones. There are some wish for a “input/output matrix”, maybe given the processing power it could be done limited to “inputs/phones matrix”?

The CQ is a wonderful device, what I miss the most form other mixing station is the ability to “group” the channel and use them in the flow. Maybe there are some way to implement these wished withing processing power?

Thanks for your clarification! Better IEM/stereo capabilities would be great for a newer CQ generation. I don’t really care if my monitor is mono when playing live, but stereo is a game changer for rehearsal.

Meanwhile, I would like to share a hybrid solution that I am considering:

CQ18T has 6 outputs, so instead of each band member having a full left/right mix for themselves, I want to arrange some cables in a way that the LEFT channel comes from the Main Left channel, and the right channel is an individual MIX from the 6/outputs.

With that, I get 6 individual “stereo” mixes, BUT, each member can only adjust their mix on the right channel, and the left channel would be the same for everybody. Is that a stupid idea?

That would work, many IEM system have a “mix mode” where on the body pack you can “mix” two input sources that are connected to the L and R inputs on the transmitter unit.

That said the main mix would have all the input sources in it at various levels then you would be mixing with that (at the IEM receiver) some of those same sources you may
get some phase issues doing that. Do a test and see what it sounds like.

Maybe we can exchange FX bus for the additional AUX using alt socket? I’d better have 2 FX and 8 outputs in some cases.
