we find that using the groups gives plenty of flexibility. in your example, set a group for the drums. each individual channel can de adjusted from within the group, leaving other keys free for different inputs. the question to ask would be how often through the set would he need to change the drums? most of our band have their MEs offstage, and simply get their mix sorted during soundcheck. thus the extra button pass to get into a group is no issue.

+1, a “virtual” ME software that could be setup alongside one of the desk control softwares like dlive director would be very handy! a total standalone editor may be a problem as it will have no visibility of what each channel is coming in as. could cause conflicts where the ME is taking the channel names directly from the desk.

Hi Dan, once you have the meters up on the external screen, you will need to use a USB mouse (plugged in either to the rear USB port, or the Data port on the front of the surface), then you can select the RTA tab on the external monitor. unfortunately, it will revert back to meters each time the desk is restarted.

one option could be to duplicate the channel and use a filtered version as a side chain… depends on where the pick off point is in the signal chain though.

The getting started guide mentions a spectrogram as well; can we expect this in 1.7?

Thanks. ok, so i-pad compatible between minor versions but not director. Nicola, having legacy minor versions (at least for the current major version of firmware) would be very helpful.

    thanks

I would find this useful as well. how it would be implemented would have to be thought through; would we want the selected tap tempo to be automatically slaved to the Detector (possibly quite dangerous), or have a softkey to latch the tempo with one button press (probably safer).

a related request would be to be able to slave other time related parameters (e.g. a chorus auto-pan speed) to a tap tempo

There is a fader to 0dB option hidden in the routing screen. select a DCA channel and go to the routing screen. you can then use the setup button to access the fader to zero option.

    Bill in TN,

we were in a similar situation to you; we upgraded our old ML3000 plus avoim system to a dlive S7000 with the MEs for monitor mixes. for us the change went very smoothly; all of our sound techs are volunteers, and no-one had any issues migrating from the old analogue system. we use exclusively in ear monitors during our service, but also send up t 6 mixes through wedges for practise, and various facility hires. the dlive handles this fine, i use either the iPad app or director software to remote control the holdback mixes from up on stage during sound checks. our band noticed the big jump in quality of the iems using het MEs; we simply send a post EQ send from each channel out to the band; not perfect as they get the FOH EQ settings, but no one has had any issues with it, and it saves a few channels; my only beef with this is that you are restricted to sending all channels using the same point in the signal chain (i.e. you can’t send some instruments post EQ and others post Compressor). there is no problem sending an aux out to the MEs though if you want to give a precanned mix to the band.

we use dante to do some recordings; quite easy to setup, and comes in handy for training. just record a service in multi track, then you can playback to show new recruits how to operate the desk in a controlled setting.we use a simple stereo recording using Dante for all of our services; again once setup it just works.

    hope this helps

I agree that DCAs and Groups are different, however in my situation i have two lead vocalists that i want to use as a side chain trigger; i already have them on a DCA so that effects and mutes can be controlled; it just seems to make another complexity to run them through a group as well. there have been a number of discussions already about having meters on the DCA faders; this i would simply see as the next logical step.

Even with a surface in a fixed installation I notice that the system loses time over a few weeks.

    Boldman,
as steffen says, you need to set the wireless router to the same ip subnet as the mixrack (192.168.0.70 by default). once the router is setup, plug it into the networking port (not the gigace connection), and if your Ip settings are correct the ipad should be able to connec
