    UPDATE***

To bring readers up to speed on the name & color screen issues I and others have been reporting on, its not a simple ribbon cable reseat that fixes the issue. I would recommend staying out of the inside of the surface except for routine dust cleaning unless you really know what you are doing! I will admit I don’t and created a small mess for a bit… :)
I was able to get my T80 in to AMS (thanks Justin and David) to have the issue repaired. It’s not the visible ribbon cable hanging in the unit that’s the issue, it’s a ribbon cable inside the name & color cards. Honestly your best bet is to schedule a repair with AMS where they can replace the screens if it’s getting bad enough to be unusable. Mine were getting that way depending on the day. After 2 and a half years on the road constantly (and 2 more tours yet to go this year) mine was ready.

I don’t think it was as much a re-seat as it was just the tiny wire not making contact. And I need to retract my previous post a bit…got 2 of the screens working, but still have 2 not working completely. I am hoping to have this issued repaired next month in service.
I did have an issue when I opened the T80…a “zip-tied” multi-pin connector disconnected itself and I didn’t see where it had come from. That was my issue with the faders not working. Its a rather silly design and build honestly. I’m a little concerned now knowing how its connected and what I lost when it came undone. Obviously I can fix it, but its not a quick fix–there are a LOT of screws!
I will commend “J” at American Music & Sound in the A&H tech department. He called me the next morning and was able to diagnose the issue once I sent him some photos and talked to him on the phone. Very Very helpful.
Meeting with he A&H regional trainer next week too, so that will be a good connection to have. We didn’t buy our system from a rep, so I don’t have any go-to person right now for issues. Hopefully this will be the last for a while.

its the ribbon cables for sure–just fixed them.

Watch out for the little yellow tabs…they fall off into oblivion. not a good design IMHO.

now my faders don’t move (or mix) not working out very well at this time.

Mine for my band is set almost like if it was an analog desk.
A Layer 1 is Drum kit, Bass, sax
A Layer 2 is Keys, Gtrs, Vocals
    A Layer 3 is iPod, Video/computer, extra RF/MC mics

    B Layer 1 is FX returns (6), and L/R/Sub
    B Layer 2 is VCAs
B Layer 3 is FX Sends

pretty straight forward–all Inputs on left and all outputs on right (for the most part)

Geep it is an Express. Scruffyd the Express only has 1 output on it…so I know I’m not messing that up!
I’ve used it for internet access and such, just doesn’t want to work with ilive for me. I’m sure its probably one little thing I am over-looking or not setting just right.
Once I think I have it set correctly, when I open Editor should I see my system right away? The manual mentions it takes a minute or two…is that in regards to actually operating anything or actually seeing it upon opening Editor?

hey guys thanks for jumping in–sraymond, sadly the guys don’t play that song…but that was a great lead in to your post!

bad thing is nothing is making it work…I did everything above–correctly–I think. Just doesn’t seem like it should be this tough to get it going. Anyways, i won’t have a chance to mess with it for a while again, so in the mean time I am going to buy a regular router I suppose so I don’t have to jack around with all this goofy settings and such. again–appreciate your help!

I agree on needing LPF’s to go lower on outputs! Would be a great update

I have been having the same issues getting the “Auto”–Vocal’ to work like I want…same big first word kind of thing. I have been basically going as manual as the comp allows to get what I want. Wouldn’t say its perfect, but I am finding I am making less adjustments now.

Would love to get a “vintage” comp as well.

We bought the system used and the manual was lost during shipping (which included damage to the T80–thanks FedEx). I am all good now, was just odd that they remained assigned when I changed headamp assignments.

yep it was assignment stuff…I had Inputs assigned that were still set to nominal level on the fader position–but I had changed the preamp without un-assigning and without taking them out of the DCA. So basically it was an un-assigned channel with nothing coming out but noise.
I’M STILL LEARNING THIS SYSTEM!! Thanks you guys for your continued help!

thats exactly what I am thinking and it is driving me nuts cause I can’t find anything. I am beginning to think the starting over thing is my only option.
Is there a way to perform a hard reset on the IDR without sending it to A&H?

Stix-I gotcha…you are right, that is where I was looking (touchscreen preamp section). And yes I was fuzzy on the Scene Safe VS. Recall Safe connection… I am NEW to this desk and system–used it twice now–a month apart. It lives 1500 miles away from me when we are off the road, so I haven’t had any time to learn/try anything outside of doing a couple sound checks and rolling through a show. thanks for the help!

OK…I guess what I am looking for is to “safe” a particular channel (iPod playback, MC mic) while on one scene so that when I recall another/next scene it doesn’t go nuts on me…volume change, cuts out, etc… can I say Yamaha here? Each channel on an M7 LS9 PM5D has a “safety recall” button on the channel that allows the selected channel to perform as I described above across any scene recall as long as its saved in the current scene. Again I did find it on an Input/channel view (IDr input?) but it did not have the button on the channel view for the Surface Inputs (1/4″…RCA slots). Sam are you saying its not possible to SAFE any slot input on the T80 Surface? Does this mean to get a SAFE option for my preshow/postshow music I have to use an input on the Idr?
