We did not have WIFI connected at all. THree hours into a four hour show and Layer C was gone!

We also had an issue where there became an link error between the AR2412 and the SQ5. I have never had that happen with any of my GLD consoles!

I’ll have to re-patch the layers for the gigs this week until they fix this issue I guess! This is not fun as I have several scenes for the venue and each has different stuff on the layers so I will be going through all the scenes and editing them. Like I really had time for another 3 hours of unpaid work!

I fail to see why this would be considered piss poor customer service? It seems they are working on a fix to a bug that has been discovered and have given you a couple solutions to get you going until the update is completed.

My company has a few GLD consoles in inventory here in the greater Phoenix area and we could send one out to you for our standard daily rate with a technician to connect to the stage box to update the firmware for you if that helps you out.

No one forgets console admin passwords! It’s stolen! When returned to A&H, they’ll figure out whose console it is. That is probably the reason someone doesn’t want to return it for the reset!

Probably not a good idea. You will not get Cat5 approved by A&H. You at get totally cheesy, cheap, home network grade cat5 and it may be of the incorrect length. If you are PM or BE for a band playing larger festivals and you are carrying your own console, you will be expected to load in and setup your gear when the other gear goes in and you should be expected to bring your own snake. If you are unable to do that then mix on the provided console.

You could just take the extra 3 seconds out of your day to pack your iPad charger.

For a tech to tell the band members to mix thier own mixes via their own Ipad is lazy! Get over yourself.

If a band wants to setup this way then by all means, let them. It will usually be a party band that has thier own engineer and carries their own console and you won’t have to deal with them anyways.

Are you changing firmware versions just prior to shows? That should only be done when you have shop time between shows.

I have two GLDs and have not had any issue on either.

Proper splitter with 40Inputs is quite expensive to buy… and i’d like to leave the extra 80pieces of XLR cable at home ;D

    More suggestions?

You could always rent a split. Don’t see why you would need an extra 80 xlrs. The split should come with the snakes. Just order it with two 25′ pieces. Should be very easy to rent the split with the additional console.

We are hearing end of June on he Qu16 also. Was just curious if we are getting the short end of the stick over here.

Soon we have a Event where i need a FOH-Mixer and a seperate Monitoring-Mixer. My suggestion was to rent a T112 for FOH and use de GLD-80 for Monitoring. What’s the best way to connect them together? I think i would need a extended-card like ACE to connect the consoles together and share then the AR-Racks from my GLD-80? Or do i need a iDR-Rack for this Setup?

Another question is how i should use the “Gain or Trim” function on both consoles? Would you prefer to leave the monitor consoles on “GAIN” to setup the rack-preamps and switch FOH-Mixer to “Trim” function? Or is it better to Setup first the preams with the monitor Mixer and then switch on both consoles to Trim? We will have serveral Bands a day so i think one console should stay in “Gain-Mode”? Or is it better to swap it after Linecheck?

Maybe there will be some own FOH Engineers with the Bands… if they want to use another digital-mixing consoles like Yamaha CL5 oder Soundcraft Vi1… is it still possible to setup the FOH-MON connection with the AR-Racks? In this case.. which extend-card would you prefer?

    Thanks for your help!

Why don’t you just pony up and use a copper split?

Also you post in your signature that you have a QU16….is that a lie, wishful thinking or just on order? Haven’t heard of them shipping yet here in the states, are they shipping in Europe already?

I use my iPad all the time to control the GLD. FOH mixer can control the FOH mix and monitor mixer can control monitors on the iPad if you want. iPad can also control the FOH mix or what ever you want. Very easy.

Also your assumption of the same people having problems over and over again…

Your last comment “It’s basic common sense that will prevent crashes” is just to idiotic to comment at all… Get real man!

The only thing a user can do is make sure that the firmware is up to date, and to use a high quality USB-stick. Other than that the console should just work as intended!

My GLD has crashed, went to service, came back and crashed again. Then they swapped it with a brand new one, and i have not had any trouble since. So: user errors, i think not.

But hell, what do I know? I’ve only been working as a professional FOH-engineer for 20 years, on a wide range of analogue and digital consoles…

Obviously Willy, you do not know how to read! I posted a question “Are they just unlucky or do they possibly press too many buttons at the same time or a certain sequence of buttons??? It’s hard to tell yet.”

So before you put on your holier than thou hat, read the posts a little better. A lot of us have been at this longer than you, including me. We all know that computers can crash, software bugs can show up unexpectedly and software/memory time sours can occur for many reasons. Every digital console manufacturer has had glitches and they all address them as they arise. A good number are caused by the end users!

I own two GLDs and have too many shows on them to count. No crashes. I read about crashes and try to keep up with what the causes were.

Keep in mind that these are computers, there is always the possibility of something causing a glitch. Probably has more to do with user error then anything else. You will notice when you read these posts that it is the same people having the problems each time. Are they just unlucky or do they possibly press too many buttons at the same time or a certain sequence of buttons??? It’s hard to tell yet.

The consoles have only been out for a year, I would imagine that more bugs will be found. I don’t worry about it. I only use high quality name brand thumb drives that I know work. I keep my firmware up to date. Any guest users are locked out of certain features. It’s basic common sense that will prevent crashes.

You don’t have to put the DCAs on a strip. The mute will work even if you don’t put the DCA anywhere. You can also gang channels, set them the way you want them then unassign one of the faders so you don’t use up you 80 faders as fast. Think stereo mic channel one one fader.

BUT – an offline editor would be a nice addition for rider friendliness.

My primary touring gig is mostly an artist doing solo fly dates (artist & piano/guitar/tracks), but we do some full band fly dates as well. We just finished rewriting our rider. I had them add the GLD to the solo rider, but not the band rider, specifically because there’s no editor software to build a show file ahead of time.

The iLive made the cut for the new band rider (along with the obvious M7, CL5, and Avid desks), but the GLD is on the solo rider only, since for solo shows I can dial things in quick enough that the show file doesn’t really matter.

So yes, the GLD is an incredible desk, but editor software would potentially land it on at least one more rider than it’s currently on.

So what you are saying s that you can’t afford to buy a $5.00 thumb drive and save a show file on it? Get real! You’ll waste more time dicking around with an offline editor than you ever would just getting up there and making a mix happen. I have mixed hundreds of bands on my GLDs and never once did I think to myself that I wished I had spent four hours the night before building a show file for a days worth of festival bands.

There are a very few instances where I think an offline editor would be handy.

Trust me, I have had a few requests from A&H for the GLD, most notably with regards to the scenes which didn’t work correctly in the beginning. Particularly having next/previous scene soft key options. They worked that out.

The GLD is small enough to set it on a desk and intuitive enough to build a show within two or three minutes while sitting there. I could probably have a complete scene built before your computer finished booting and you started on off line editor.

Any of us that have been in this business for more than 10 years (24 years or me) know the these fancy digital toys we have are luxuries. We used to build our mixes on the fly in a matters of a few minutes using racks of gear. We had to rematch cables on the back of consoles to get comps and gates on the correct channels and groups to our liking. We had total recall of all our settings in our fingertips, not on our thumb drives, we carried pictures or diagrams of our console settings to get back to where we were after the opening act screwed up our settings.

A&H has mentioned many times on these forums that an offline editor was not a priority for the GLD. They did however provide three very good preset show files with the console that would be great for about 97% of the performers out there and can be edited way faster than it would take with an offline editor!
