I wonder if you could use the USB-B port. It behaves like a direct out. Maybe that can feed the input channels via the USB-B on the second mixer.

** I don’t know that it can be done. I am only asking.

@andreas: Yes, I am aware of the Post-All setting, but that would completely ruin the bass player’s personal (IEM) mix.

@mervaka: Good point. When the XLR-input is in use, there is already a 1/4″ jack there (Line-In) going to waste. Why couldn’t I just push a button and have that same jack convert into an insert? Would it be a problem that it comes before the A/D stage? (Is the Preamp analog?)

I suppose a completely different approach might be to give the user the ability to re-order the various processing sections in the channel signal path, i.e., swap the Gate and Compressor so that “Pre-EQ” Mix source point can include the compressor. (I know it is standard practice to not compress a stage mix for the benefit of vocalists, but in some special cases such as this, the need may arise.)

Channel Insert jacks on the QU, please. At least for a few channels anyway.

For example, I want to compress incoming bass guitar and I want it to be compressed in both mains and monitors alike. I can’t see any simple way to make an outboard effects loop without burning up mix channels and additional input channels.

This is discussed on page 75 of the manual. Concerning the Main LR (Master strip) source, you can choose either “LR Pre” or “LR Post”.

As a side note, there is no Gain control in the Main LR strip; only a Fader.

I like my QU 24, but it would be nice if the entire back panel could detach from the mixer and become the stage box via cat5. Or, on some jobs, I could leave it attached and use it for local inputs. Thus, reducing my initial investment.

As long as you maintain good gain structure throughout the mixer, there should be enough at the outputs to deliver the goods. I keep my input gains close to 0dB, (on the PAFL meters,) I use makeup gain when I compress, and I negative EQ only sparingly. Frankly, I don’t recall ever running my Master fader higher than about -5 dB.

I suppose the end result really depends on how much speaker system and power you have available. For example, my floor wedges are high power. The monitors seem to have so much available level that they can blow your hair back if pushed even a little. I can rarely get my Monitor Faders higher than about -15 or so…and maybe less with a low ceiling.

I occasionally record my bands with two or three camcorders. Then I sync up the edited footage with audio from the QU mixer. The 48khz sample rate fits perfectly for video work and doesn’t need down-sampling.

    Hi,
I’m currently moving and only have internet access via phone so sorry for my slow response time.

I am working on a 1.9 version. But the current one should work fine with 1.9, just ignore the fwarning message.
Known issues with this method are: Tap buttons aare not blinking.

Thanks, Dave. I thought that it wouldn’t connect if the version numbers didn’t match. OK then, I’ll update the mixer today and try Mixing Station version 1.82 with it. I just didn’t want to lose the ability to mix on tablet altogether. (God forbid I would need to dig out the old multicore snake again.)

    Thanks for your help.

I haven’t seen or heard from davidgiga1993 in a few months. Does anyone know if he is working on version 1.9 for QU-Mixing Station?

    I really need it!

    Thanks.

If I update my mixer to 1.9 firmware, will my QU-Mixing Station (Pro) version 1.8x still connect and function?

    1. The DSR118W sub has its own crossover built-in. It automatically filters out everything above 120 Hz and everything below 45Hz. You can just send full range audio to it the same as your tops. The parallel xlr out on the sub is for feeding the tops. The out signal is tapped prior to the crossover and remains full range. If you run both Left and Right channels into a single sub, it will sum the two channels together into a mono signal for that sub. However, the xlr outs remain separated L&R stereo for the tops. Thus, nothing to worry about in the mixer.

    2. To send Effects to Monitors…While Mix 1 is selected, press the upper layer button for the faders and turn up any of the Effects Return faders. This is assuming that you already have effects in the mains.

    3. I’ve never bothered to use the rta feature. I always just EQ the room and ring out speakers using my ears. During a show, if something sounds a bit shrilly or boomy, I’ll peek at the rta to see what frequency is popping, but I don’t use any auto EQ features. Perhaps someone else can help with that.

No. To the best on my knowledge, you cannot set mix channel panning to follow L/R. In the Mix routing screen, no matter which pick-off point you choose, (Post-Preamp, Pre-EQ, Post-EQ, Post-All,) the pan controls seem to always stay independent.

You can, however, manually set them all to roughly match your L/R panning.

I wish my QU-24 had it. I’d surely be using it.
