You could change the MIDI Channel.
    Setup->Control->MIDI->MIDI Channel

I’m so close, but I’m still stuck.

    I am sending “F0 00 00 1A 50 11 01 00 00 03 20 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 F7” to the mixer. It should change the name on Channel Strip one to “ABCDEFG”.

After sending the message, my sendRequest.completionProc fires and appears okay. The sendRequest.complete flag is set to true. It also shows up in a utility that I use to monitor events (MIDI Monitor) as:
21:47:52.229 To Channel 26 In SysEx Allen & Heath $13 bytes

When I look at the actual data (from within the monitor app), it is identical to the data sent when I change it on the mixer or the QuPad with the exception of one byte. That is expected because the command is 02 or 03 depending on whether it is being sent or received.

One curios thing is that the utility is reporting it on MIDI Channel 26. I am sending it on channel 1 (00). I read that some devices send and recieve SysEx messages on a separate channel than Note On/Off commands. I’m just assuming it is the same since it is not mentioned in the published spec.

All of my other functions work. I can change any parameter on the mixer but without being able to change the name, the whole idea of an offline editor seems like a waste.

Any information that anyone can give me would be truly appreciated. Like I said, I’m stuck and I’ve been stuck for two days.

BTW, nice job on the MIDI Doc. It had everything I needed to write my controller.

There is an issue with the very early versions (1st Gen) of the Airport Express routers. The kind that can plug directly into the wall. I have a newer one (a couple of years old) and it works great. A friend from this community brought his 1st Gen to my house to see if we could get it to work. We spent a couple of hours on it but to no avail. He bought a new one on the way home for $100 and he was up and running in five minutes.

    Thanks @owai,
I met George though the ProSound Web when he was just starting to write his app. He is a nice guy. We traded a couple of e-mails.

I am currently working on an app for OS X that will allow me to create a scene with or without the mixer attached and then send it to the mixer when I am ready. I work a lot of festival and it is nice to be able to set channels names, initial gain, assigns, etc while a different band is on stage (and obviously using the mixer). I am going to try to make it look similar to the GLD Editor if I can.

So far, I can Mute/Unmute Channels, Move the Faders and anything else that uses the MIDI NRPN commands. I’m trying to figure out the SysEx Commands. Once that is done I should have complete control. Then, all I have to do is write the interface (sarcasm)

I wrote a similar product for the Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 and 24.4.2 mixers. It’s on my website at http://www.roadiesoftware.com

I want my UK Unit Back!

The UK units are probably better build quality but the early models had a problem where they would produce an audible Pop when plugging in a mic (even while muted). It’s in all the release notes. I sent mine in for repair and they replaced it with a Chinese unit. The new one works fine and no more pop!

    Just a quick update.
I played around and discovered that I can move a fader and mute/un-mute channels either way (with Static or dynamic MIDIPacketList) but I still don’t know which is the preferred method. There’s not a lot of information out on the google.

On page 1 of this topic, I posted a PDF with step-by-step instructions (with screen caps) on how I set mine up. It might help.

First step and probably the hardest one! I can send a command to the Qu-16 from a proof of concept program.

I would do a System Hard Reset. From Page 65 of the current manual:

Note – A hard reset clears all current settings, all
Scenes, User Libraries and User Permissions.
First turn off the system including amplifiers and
    powered speakers.
To hard reset the Qu mixer – Press and hold the
touch screen Reset and Setup keys together and then
power up the mixer. Keep the keys pressed for at least
5 seconds while the mixer boots. Release the keys.

I am thinking about writing a rudimentary editor for the Qu-16. It would not have all the features of the GLD Editor because it would only use MIDI to Set/Get parameters. My main goal is to reduce change-over time at festivals. I want to set up and label all of the channels on the computer while a different band is on stage and then send them to the board while we’re setting mics. I wrote a similar editor for the Presonus StudioLive a couple of years ago. I sold a few copies but it is now available for free at https://roadiesoftware.com.

The version I’m planning for the Qu would be for OS X only. I would write it in a different language than I used for the SL editor and it doesn’t support Microsoft Windows. I don’t have anything yet. I’m going to write a proof of concept first, a simple program with one fader control and a mute button. If I can do that, I’ll start the full design.

If you are only using an effect on a single channel (like a reverb on a snare drum) you won’t need to use one of the sends.

No, not at this time. Hopefully, they are working on one but we won’t know until (if) they release it.

I want one too. It’s really handy at a festival. You can set up for the next band while a different one is on stage.

That is how it is designed to work. Most professional musicians would not want their monitor mix to change during their performance. It’s too distracting.

However, if you want it to work that way you can do as suggested above. An easier way might be to use the Alt-out for the monitors and then patch it to follow L/R.

Personally, I would suggest setting the monitors and mains separately (like the way it works now). If you are ever performing with a house system/engineer, that’s the way it will be set up.

    Good point GCumbee!

BruceMc, what he is saying is that you can go into the Back Panel of an effect and select one of the mix busses as the input and use it just like you would FX1 and FX2
