Cool, I’ll try the DCA. Thanks for the assistance.

Thanks everybody, unfortunately re-patching or creative routing takes up additional channels and is not really an option. We are pretty maxed out with inputs and feeds to and from recordings, monitors, computers, cameras, video, etc…each already having an appropriate permanent place, and things can get quite complicated as it is.

Also, everything works well as it is, this would simply be a really nice addition and I wasn’t sure if it was possible but I’m seeing that it doesn’t look like it is.

Qu-16. about 3 mixes. I haven’t used the DCA yet, but will explore that a bit.

It’s a permanent install into a mono system with multiple speakers and a bit of out of the ordinary coverage area. We have a speaker distribution system but it’s a little more complicated than just having 1 outbound mix to cover all areas and speakers, so the thought of having the L&R to be able to control all levels sent to all mixes/areas at once is appealing for some situations.

It’s done, the simplest solution was to stay within the 16ft range. That solved everything.

We record to a computer for the ease of naming files on the fly for certain events that require multiple recorded files. We use Qu-Drive as a backup.

Would still love a file naming feature from A&H.

Haha, not going to redesign the room, audio is just one aspect of what the room does and that’s what we have the qu-16 for. Works great with the iPad. In the end, I just moved the computer closer to make it work.

FYI for anyone else I found out this; Repeaters and extenders don’t actually replicate the USB data correctly for consistent transmission for all types of devices which is why they only work some of the time, although some do it better than others. And some devices are also less sensitive than others. Repeaters and extenders are really meant for simple devices such as keyboards, clickers, printers (sometimes), but may be more sensitive when dealing with high quality streaming/recording audio. Basically, you take your chance. Sometimes it will work with the gear and application you are using, sometimes not. The qu-16 is an instance where I didn’t have much success.

I also contacted A&H support directly and they didn’t have much advice beyond this either.

There was one website I found that recommends a $325 100m USB extender that will be guaranteed to work, but that’s a little much and a little more than I need.

Thank for the tips Mervaka and Lou.

Yes, thank you! (Sorry for the late reply) you are right it is was on the global settings. I remember seeing that before but forgot and couldn’t find it in the manual. I do have playback on wavlab but I still don’t really see an option to stream back audio from other programs on the PC (like Internet or media player etc…). It seems someone else has asked this question in another forum as well but while it seems to work on a Mac, it does not work on a PC.

Really? Nobody has tried to stream to the qu16 from a computer?

    Anybody?

I’m just going to follow up here: Allen and Heath promised an update regarding the go ahead with making a driver to enable streaming to a PC. An ETA was said to be given around this time.

    So…..

I followed exactly word for word what it said in the manual and had instant success. You’ll know if you did because the start screen on the Qu-Pad screen will give te option to select your mixer and not just the demo mode.

I would love this. A multiband de-esser, even as a plugin to purchase.

Can you upgrade the onboard effects? I don’t know.

Multiple iPads would be great. The visuals are so much better on the iPad anyways. Just the option to have multiple screens available. Also, maybe a computer app so you could have a large visuals display on a monitor.

I’ve found workarounds for a lot of stuff so far within the board, but you could just use 2 line inputs instead of the stereo pair and use the ST inputs for something else

From what I found so far with working with a few guys who know there way around a digital board, the Qu-16 is a very cool unit, but there is still a lot of firmware that needs to come out to complete its full potential.

    • The ability to make the ST1 and ST2 inputs mono would give more versatility

    • The fact that there is a user access restriction menu you can’t do anything with yet is kind of funny

    • a monitor for AES output, regardless if it says it’s following whatever source it is, or if there is no room for it, somehow it would be nice to see levels for everything going out because it’s too easy to flip a switch in some sub menu and suddenly it’s not doing exactly what you wanted and now you can’t see it

dhak: that would be great, it would give more flexibility of stereo / mono tools to work with.

eotsskleet: I am aware of being able to use just one side of the stereo as a mono (I think that’s what you mean) but won’t it still only use one side of a stereo channel instead of summing both left and right channels to one output? (as with a mono output?) did I miss something? (I hope so!)

I agree though, probably a very simple firmware update to change this feature. One touchscreen option and flick the switch to mono or stereo output!

I Still would like to know if the Line & MIC inputs could be separated into individual channels as like the old GL2200. If this can be done on a firmware change or if it is a hardware thing.

I was simply told by Allen & Heath Tech Support not to plug in both a Line and a MIC input to an individual channel at the same time. They didn’t offer more than that.

This board is a permanent install with patch panels, recordings, and regular events so for me, it would really be a bonus to select between 16 channels of MIC inputs and another 16 channels of Line inputs. Custom layers galore, and, a feature no other 16 channel digital mixer has (That I’ve seen anyways).

    🙂
