    Alex,

Good to hear, I was setting up a show Monday with RF and remembered I never posted about the issues. Also, that didn’t make the release notes 😉

Both of my desks are out on shows, with RF, so I’ll update as they come back and I have time to burn them in.

The console always runs at 96k internally, and cards that support it do SRC. Both Dante and MADI will do SRC.

Note that once a card is set for 48 or 96 you can’t mix-and-match. This can become an issue on Dante because not all devices support 96k.

+1 I have some Digico rentals that have moved to dLive (and Avantis) for theatre, and this has come up a number of times.

    Joe,

I got to play on one last week. The IO page is very similar, including tie lines and virtual sound check.

As Steffen said “it is that simple”, but even more capable.

Inside dLive you have an (approx) 800 in x 800 out non-blocking switching matrix (S Class) that you can go from any Analog/DX/Slot to any Analog/DX/Slot/ME on MR or Surface. There may be an upper limit on concurrent connections (not published), but there isn’t a known restriction on what-can-be-connected-to-what.

If you look at all the slot options and DX options, the routing (and SRC) capabilities rock.
Analog. AES. Dante. Waves. MADI. Map between any of them as you wish.

On the US side there are quite a few posts/pictures already of GX4816’s with SQ consoles, so it’s available for delivery here.

    @nicola

That’s good information to have, and I can see how it is done with “convert” mode, but that isn’t want any of your published documentations says and conflicts with what my rep told me (he pointed me to the docs). Effectively, it just becomes 2 media converts mounted in a slot. May want to update that info.

“M-DL-GOPT (fibreACE) is one of several audio networking options that can be
fitted to an Allen & Heath dLive I/O Port. It provides a 128x128ch 96kHz copper
or fibre optic point-to-point link to another dLive mixing system. It can also be
used to connect a MixRack and Surface via fibre optic instead of CAT cable.”

While “convert” is referenced, nowhere does it say you get the full bandwidth. The Features list on the website states 128×128 @ 96k just above the convert option.

As a note, also, www (dot) allen-heath (dot) com/media/fibreACE-fitting-note-AP10843.pdf shows the web page title as “Qu Mixer User Guide” when you open it.

You can also use simple media converters, just purchase the correct SFP’s.

I’m not a fan of the fiberACE for a primary console link because it provides 128×128 instead of the regular 300×300, significantly reducing your capabilities at the surface and requiring you to know the channels mappings.

    Art,

I’m not wanting processing, I know the system very well, and have sq.

When the surface loses its connection it goes to a recovery screen to reboot/reconnect or shutdown.

On 1.50 it could stay on that screen all day and still respond to a shutdown/reboot “touch”.

On 1.70/1.71/1.80 the recovery screen “freezes” after about 30 seconds and no longer accepts a touch.

1.81 lists the ABCD patches disappearing when unassigned selected as fixed (not verified).

The mono->stereo dropping config items is still open. Looks like I reported it too late to make 1.81.

    Adding to this –

When you convert to stereo, it drops the ABCD assignments AND the DCA/Mute Group assignments!

In terms of DCA/Mute Group I’m not sure if it really dropped them or it is a presentation issue. On the routing screen, they still have the little blue dot in the upper right hand corner indicating an assignment on that tab, but nothing is showing. As soon as you assign/clear anything it goes away.

It all depends on your source point.

    1) On you channel setup, are you PEQ/Comp or Comp/PEQ?

    2) On the Aux routing page, top right, you need to select the source point. If you are PEQ/Comp then “Post Delay” is your only option to have Comp applied to the bus send. If you are Comp/PEQ then you can choose PEQ or Post Delay.

Pre/Post fader is still independent of the source point.

Depending on what you are doing and input channel count, you can setup a duplicate set of channels just for monitors or other needs.

I’m with Steffen – the way you asked this was very confusing. Hopefully, based on your last response, this is what you are looking for.

I’m all for the DCA metering. I have many shows that run 90% on DCA’s and while I can work around it (mostly) with meter pages on a desk, there isn’t a workaround on an ipad. I’ve had some minor panics where I thought I had no signal because the day before I was on an X32 with DCA meters.

Remember that these meters have ballistics (attack, release, peak hold) and the “software” is actually implemented in an FPGA, so you aren’t simply dealing with a CPU/DSP summing arrays.

A sum of channel levels, integrated independently over time with attack/release, with no relation to frequency content is meaningless.

As a perfect example: take 2 channels with the same signal in phase and equal levels and sum them, the output is +3db higher than what went in. If I take the same 2 channels, flip the phase on one, the “sum the levels method” would still say +3db(ish) and there would be no signal coming out the other side.

They either have the hardware capability to do it right or they don’t, aside from an indication that an individual channel is clipping there isn’t a shortcut that works for the general case.

Glad to hear everything is going well. I’ve never run that many but wondered how it would play out. Had I seen this and jumped in earlier, I would have suggested DMxx instead of CDMxx since you are tying up the one slot with MADI.

Watch the hidden SSID. That was my standard for a long time until I had an ipad and some laptops that would just “forget” about it and not reconnect and inopportune times. I switched to Ubiquity, broadcast SSID and a secure password and have had no issues.

Go dLive. Aside from the extreme flexibility in configuration and workflows, you won’t have to think about how to just squeeze one more thing in.

One item that I quickly got spoiled on is show saves. SQ you get to save everything to USB. dLive saves on the surface, optional transfer to USB. Easy to bounce between different shows or repeat one from a year ago.
