Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying Dante is bad, but it is not the Holy grail of audio distribution. It needs a lot of bandwith if you want to send signals from A to B without any latency problems. So connecting a laptop with Dante virtual soundcard (love that!) trough the ace network from the surface to the mixrack is out of the question. Like i said, cat5 is restricted to 100 mbit in optimal situation, ace use about 90 mbit continously, leaving about 10 mbit for dante. that’s enough for a few channels i guess.
Anyway, i hope to try it in the future, in the mean time i’ll stick to Madi over fibre optics….

2010/03/26 at 8:24 am #25382hello,
some remarks:
-dante only supports only 48 ch. in and 48 ch. out,
-and only when using 1 Gbit equipment and Cat6 cable, cat 5 cable is restricted to 100 mbitThis is according to the audinate site, strangely enough audinate doesn’t compare dante to madi.
i’m sorry if i’m a bit crittical…
have fun!

2010/03/17 at 7:27 pm #25321hello again,
That’s what i like about A&H… with other brands you can only get the official release AND you have to wait for a while!
Or you get an update (won’t mention the name of the firm, it was a V3 update) and your old shows don’t work…
cheers,

2010/03/16 at 12:14 pm #25317Hello Andy,
I would love a copy too, i also use ubuntu 9.10. For offline i use the windows version, but in a live situation a linux (starts up in 20 seconds…) laptop as a “next to the stage, just for safety”-system is great!

2010/03/15 at 9:35 pm #25309little correction, a dca is routed to nowhere, it just controls the relative level of the faders assigned to it.

2010/02/22 at 10:04 am #25215Or a auto increment scene option, so you only have to press go for the next scene.
2010/02/22 at 10:00 am #25214Hello Dave,
Yes you are on the right track. Normally i do much about the same. i use a double name list, the scene numbers from the desk i consider the “memory position” and i call the actual scene “scene”. I hope you still understand. This way i can insert a “scene 1.5” when needed and record that at the end of the ilive list, let’s say scene 151. then i move the scene to ilive scene 3. so ilive scene 1 is setup, ilive scene 2 is the actual scene 1, ilive scene 3 is actual scene 1.5 etc.It took me a while to figure it out, but now it works great.
it is possible to copy a range of scenes, although is normally do that in the editor during pre- production/rehearsal.
good luck with your musical

So no excuses, You all at A&H know what i mean….2009/11/30 at 9:10 pm #24937Hello,
I need only about 30 metres, does it really matter if i use simple shielded foilded fleixble cat5 cable?
It says on the site that you can connect trough simple utp cat5 cable, but it seems you actually have to use the cable types supported by A&H.I’m just curious what the limits are of non-supported cat5 cable, anyone any experiences?

T80/Idr322009/09/23 at 11:29 am #24708Thanks,
i probaly will get used to it, i mean i have to get used to it… maybe A&H can make something like Yamaha: a softkey with the function “instant recall next scene”…..
By the way, i love this forum, very usefull for future buyers!
Greetings,
