    This difference is caused by different dB values used in iLive and computer recording programs. Remember, that dB is not an unit. It is only a suggestion, that measured values are shown logarythmically. iLive scale is just in dBs where 0dB on meter means +4dBu on output. It is scale typical for analog consoles. Maximum output level without distortion is about +22dBu, so it is 18dB on scale. Your computer shows values in dBFS (Full Scale) where 0 dBFS means the maximum value (which can not be exceeded in any way).
    It means, that when you’re sending 0dB (dBFS) from your computer it is also a full signal in iLive, 18dB above 0 on meter. And when you’re sending 0dB from computer via S/PDIF you will get -18dBFS on your computers scale.
    Of course real values can vary from those above, your recording program can show RMS value despite peak (few dB lower), I am also not sure is 0dB in iLive exactly +22dBu on output.
    Please look for dB, dBu, dBV and dBFS.

    Hi all!
    Graham: you wrote, in few words, that dynamics in iLive are bad. So, please write me what parameters did you measure and where is the table which can tell us that below one value the compressor is bad and above another is perfect. I believe, that one would like sound of this part and other one wouldn’t. But this is subjective feeleing, not a measurable value.
    I work with iLive since it came to Poland and I like sound of their compressors – they do what they should – even with the signals given by polish musicians…
    BTW – I found a Starbucks in Warsaw, but I couldn’t find anything interesting me inside. I went to the other place.
    Cheers,

    I’ll extend Dave’s wish. It will be nice if this patching can be done in 15 seconds, not in few minutes as now. Now it is neccessary to patch individually all channels. The most usefull patchbay I ever used is in D-Show system. Just click, move and declick. In this way you can patch all console in seconds.

    Hi,
    I’ve already done two shows for radio and one live recorded (on 2track only). These were rock concerts. I like this console much (:
    I think, for the broadcast situation PL-Anet option will be a good feature – you can use PL-6 (8 faders with 16 buttons) instead of big control surface.
    And many types of I/Os.

    Hi Mike,
    I think, you never tryied to register on one of polish HiFi forums (:
    The procedure is much more complicated (with bigger number of random errors) and finally, when you finish the site informs you, that you can write your first post after one week. Now you’re passive.
    Head up!
    Best regards,

    Hi,
    I’ve already tested this feature. It is possible now.
    You just have to set different IP adresses for each Surface, but the same for MixRack. Just re-patch inputs (remember that the gain, +48V and pad will be the same for both channels) and prepar good layouts for controllers (it will be more save when there will be not duplicated channels on both Surfaces).
    You can also connect a computer as a third controller (:

    Hi all,
    I’ve got next wish (: I guess I will always have ideas how to make console better, no matter how good it is.
    I’ve connected two surfaces to one mixrack. And it works! So my wish is to create TWO faders for each channel – one for FOH and one for MONitors allowing monitor guy to have sends post mon fader (but pre EQ). I guess, the separate EQ (even simpler) is not possible because of DSP resources?
    IMHO, firmware versions since 2.x should have some game implemented. Arkanoid or Galaxian or even Tetris (please don’t add game FX to master bus…).
    Oh, and one option more: 32 buses only for mixex, no PFL. Sometimes those 2 auxes are necessary.
    Best regards,
    ZiKE

    Hi all,
    I know ‘channel numbering problem’. I think we should prepare stickers allowing fast change of numbering style. For me, there is no difference is it B2 or 10. It also can be a complex number, only thing – it should be sequential.
    Megalimiter with 3k dB gain reduction will be fine of course (but needs a 500bit processor), but maybe some kind of band compressor/limiter instead of this dream limiter?
    Expanding mumus wish-list I’ll add ‘Better’ knob with possibility to set on 11 (in scale of 10). And my lovely dBh (decibellhour) meter. ‘We can play longer or louder for the same price!’ (:
    ‘Small preset’ function – allows to quick store settings of one aux and recall it remotely (by PL-6 i.e.). We can give PL-6s to musicians, set levels and store up to 16 ‘small scenes’ for different songs. Then a musician can switch it during the show, allowing us not to leave conversations with our coffee machine (:
    Best regards,

    Hi again,
    I’ve just remembered how I’ve done it.
    You have to install 4 input cards in the Surface. Those 32 channels will be transmited over ESA as channels from 1 to 32 as a signal directly after gain. Other 30 channels you can route as a directs outs on ES channels from 33 to 62. In this way you can use 62 channels for recording via Ethersound.
    Best regards,
    ZiKE

    Hi Mumu,
    as I know for now, 34 of 64 ESA channels are reserved for audio connections between Mixracka and the Surface. Channels from 1 to 32 are transmitting audio signals from in/out cards and channels 63 and 64 are used as a PFL line. So only 30 of them are free to assign.
    But it is possible in some way to use 62 channels, but I don’t remember how I did it. I had to use two iLives, one with ESA and ESB and the second with only ESA. I split 62 signals through Ethersound.

    I vote for flashing mute buttons (:
    Easy centering of EQ faders were mentioned few times.
    I also would appreciate easer way of patching inputs and outputs and, what’s more important – ability to work at negative temperatures; Polish sound engineers should have possibility to work on this system.
    Best regards to all!

    Hi Jaap!
    I think you are right. Some of my habits can be caused by using DShow venue for a long time. Also work ‘standards’ in Poland makes me thinking of such things like speaker processor in console.
    -London or Cornwall mode can be differ than other_city_name mode. I need only to light up all LEDs (yesterday I have to replace one). I don’t need blinking and flashing but sometimes it is very useful thing (:
    -Sometimes it is hard to put next laptop to work with the console. It is obviously very good idea, but when my computer controls the PA system, wireless microphones and records few tracks I don’t want to ask him for more (:
    -Surround is not offen now. But I try to do some things using surround panning. I use auxes to set source position in space, and will be very happy when pan knob can act as an Left/Right and Front/Rear.
    -Laptop for monitors? It is fine to me. I worked with 01V96 hidden under the table. I heard that ‘I have a good sound card’ from a man who saw me controlling sound from laptop (: But have you ever tried to imagine old soundman, who hates digital desks working on laptop? Digital desks are prohibited in some polish technical riders, so asking those men for working on laps will cause serious health problems (like a broken nose…) (:
    Of course, in many times I can do the whole gig even on A&H Wizard or similar. But I am thinking of those who needs 64 channel, 4 FXs, 24 gates and of course multiblink-o-flashing rack for acoustic jazz trio… Sometimes we have to cooperate with people like this and every ‘problem’ will be pointed and commented in not polite way.
    Jaap, what do you think about countdown timer??? (:
    Greetings from Poland!

    Hello,
    After few months of working on iLive there are some issues I would like to see changed or implemented:
    -fader calibration;
    -faster starting up. much faster. 1:20 is not a good time for live situation;
    -test function allowing to check all faders, LCDs and LEDs;
    -implemented speaker processing unit (it will be nice invention);
    -minesweeper and solitaire;
    -possibility of using two surfaces with one mixrack;
    -possibility of using two mixracks with one surface;
    -‘clear all console’ software button, reseting all control parameters, names and layout;
    -faster patchbay – i.e. seabattle style;
    -surround panning (and multichannel effect processors);
    -screen saver with timer counting down to the end of gig (:

    I’ll write more, if some new idea occur (:
    Best regards for all!
