I think this should be dependent on you XDR mode. You can set the XDR mode for 2 XDR units or 1. If it is configured for 2, you have only 16 port B returns for each racks. Otherwise 48
2013/08/06 at 6:04 pm #34576So to understand you correctly Pealsound, you have 4 media converters on each end, which then takes up one single mode fibre each on you quad fibre cable?
Shouldn’t this all also be possible, with just a managed standard copper switch in each end? There should be plenty of bandwidth for 2 seperate ACE connections (one for surface, one for XDR link) right? As long as the ACE connection doesn’t see the others, and can be set to 100mb connection?
2013/08/06 at 12:42 am #34570Pealsound: Why use seperate fibres, when you can just use the V-LAN capabilities of most switches? A 1000-base SX fibre can manage 4,25gbit up to 150 metre. Plenty for 4 full gigabit VLANs, which can then be distributed at the other end. This could be done pretty cheap and lightweight!
The monocat is out of the question, price is way too high.
2013/08/05 at 7:38 pm #34565That sounds like a possibly even better solution. Could you tell me more specific models/brands?
Regards, Tor
2013/08/04 at 10:20 pm #34554Ok. But is this with Dual Cat5e lines or more? One line i snot enough
2013/08/04 at 2:18 pm #34543Yeah, they have the monocat 202 or the power combis. But I was just hoping not to spend 2000euros on a cat cable []
2013/07/17 at 4:17 pm #34476Did you get an answer to this?
2013/06/13 at 12:25 am #34207ok. Sound interesting! Especially since this laptop could also work as recorder/virtual soundcheck. But when I tried to use remote desktop through the ACE connection, it seemed quite slow to update the screen. I’ll have to give it another shot
2013/06/10 at 11:55 am #34177Ok. So in your setup you are actually using Remote Desktop to control a laptop on stage? Is that not with considerable lag? Mind you, my control computer is not on stage, it is at FOH running multirack SG through the ACE connection. This is, from what I have been told here, a working and supported solution. If this wasn’t possible, it would be kind of a failed system integration.
A&H can you confirm here?

Waves Audio LTDHi Noam.
I have emailed with you before, but the info I have gotten was kind of contradictory to what people in here, and A&H posters have said here. Again @Düsenklang, it is simply not rational to argue that it has to do with Cat6 cable, since the Surface Net bridge is only 100mps not gigabit and control through ACE should be supported.
2013/06/08 at 8:28 pm #34165Could I ask your specific setup Albin? What cable and length do you use for Mixrack to surface?
2013/06/07 at 6:54 pm #34154Yes that is the setup. But though it is not stated in the manual, if you do not use the SG driver, the multirack -> Allenheath connection only uses apr. 10mpbs bandwidth, meaning there is more than enough to run only control through ACE. I have been using this setup for a long time with few problems, that were related to cable/joints/switch problems, but it started acting up again when I started summer tour, for no apparent reason.
2013/06/07 at 1:17 pm #34150I only use the Multirack software, to control the server. The Soundgrid driver is not “On”, so it is not in either standalone or networked mode. That would overload the ACE connection. This is a supported method of controlling the soundgrid server, and since the Surface does not have gigabit networking, only 100mbps, it would not make sense to demand a cat6 or cat7 cable. Cat5e should be more than fine to support a 100mbps connection at 100 meters.
2013/06/07 at 12:54 pm #34147I only do control through the surface/Cat5E, no Soundgrid Driver/Audio, this is a supported solution, and confirmed by waves support. Otherwise it would be impossible to use the system from more than 70m distance even with Cat6E, which would not make sense
2013/05/30 at 11:05 pm #34099This particular feature i think is pretty much standard. Its even on the LS9.
