Ugh, and I know this is maybe not the answer you are looking for. And it costs bux. But might consider getting a Dante card for your SQ. Dante out to a laptop with a Virtual Sound Card and Reaper.

This will kill the proverbial “two birds” allowing you to back up to SQ Drive.

    Just a thought.

The OWC Mercury On-The-Go 1TB SSD seems to have faired just as well. 32-tracks of 24/48, two-hour recording. All files downloaded and played back in Reaper.

A couple of on-the-job tests sohould be enough to restore my confidence in recording on the SQ.

Just DL’d 32-tracks off the OWC Mercury drive and all the files loaded into Reaper and play back. Maybe the bus-powered Samsung SSD just can’t handle the load of a big track count. The OWC drive is externally powered. I have a 1TB SSD coming from OWC next week. Same footprint. I’ll test it then and report back.

My JoeCo BBR-64 Dante is a Dante enabled 64-track dedicated recorder. https://joeco.co.uk/bbr64-dante-joeco-multi-track-audio-recorder/ Never failed me.

Moving on from oil changes, I am stress test recording on my SQ6 today with a spinning drive, a OWC Mercury 1TB with external power supply. 32 tracks 24/48 for a 2-hour burn. Got an hour to go. If all the files load into Reaper with no errors, I will take that drive on the next job, along with my JoeCo as a life preserver. More to come.

Frustrated. Just edited the above message but it didn’t stick. Grr!

Anyway, there are two corrupted files. I dropped one of them into Reaper and there is exactly 2 seconds of wave form, no more. Shows the same file size, 1.2GB, as all the others.

Kinda done now. I’ll just continue to take the reliable JoeCo out on my SQ jobs. Such a shame SQ-Drive doesn’t work.

So in downloading the .wav files from the drive, there appears to be only one corrupted file, the second file on the list. If I absolutely desperately needed to present these files to a client, is there any know method for un-corrupting one file with the error message “The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “02 PP R.WAV” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)”?

So last night, 18 inputs recorded to the Samsung T5. Mixing a show so I didn’t stare at the error meter. All seemed good whenever I looked. Got home and went to download the files to my MBP. Corrupted files! Some but not all. Weird. Error message: The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “02 PP R.WAV” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)

So I will go to the QU data base (and can I assume that QU compatible USB “drives” will also work on SQ mixers?), and find something that might work for me too.

I am pretty disappointed that this is so tricky (33 pages of posts) and SO glad I schlepped the JoeCo to the job (utterly reliable). I would be happy to leave some gear behind but I don’t know if I can ever be comfortable that my multitrack files on my SQ6 won’t be a jumbled mess. Me to my client “So sorry but the files I recorded last night all all corrupted.” It’s pretty much my only complaint with the panel but it’s a big one.

I would be grateful to anyone who is recording large track counts on their SQ mixer to directly point me to some media that has worked FLAWLESSLY for them over some extended period of time. I will look at the data base and read through the 33 pages but I’m tired and would love to be a bit lazy on this. Suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks all.

Reaper works wonderfully as a Dante recorder. I use it on my MBP all the time and I have never had a failure.

Still testing the Samsung SSD. I recorded 10 tracks yesterday and all was good. I will record 20 tracks tomorrow. If that works as expected, I will start taking the SQ out as a multi-track mixer along with a Denon SD recorder as a 2-mix backup on jobs that used to require a JoeCo. It will mean leaving the JoeCo, the Dante switch and the computer at home; weight off my aging back.

More only if I encounter any problems.

Perhaps hire a local carpenter to build you such an enclosure?

Yep, it would really be nice if playing back off a USB thumb drive worked better. A MacBook takes up a lot of room on the table. But playback through the SQ Drive really doesn’t work so finding another solution seems to be the best bet. Sorry.
