Hi @keithjah, thanks, I think that was the missing link – I got the AUX mix done but could not understand where to route it in USB output. I’ll give it a try later in a day and let you know if this worked well. Fingers crossed!

Also uploading attachments for future reference if anyone is looking to do the same.

    Hi @keith,

The trick you recommended worked very well!

Going to Setup->Audio->Pafl; Set Ext-in to PAFL=On, Local socket – Talk, and set Pad, 0 gain, and -24dB trim. As seen on the meter, the click signal from MPC output 3 is coming in nicely.
Also, going to Meters->RTA, Fixed Channel – MainLR – the RTA shows nothing, meaning the signal isn’t going through Main LR, just as you described. Success!

Since I only use it in my own home studio, there’s no need to go though advanced routing, but I am glad it is possible.

I am astonished at how powerful SQ-5 is.

Great, I signed up for an SQ-5 online course + a masterclass in mixing.

    Here’s a follow-up to my original post.

Yes, it is absolutely possible to add analog outboard gear to the main stereo buss via insert! I connected outgoing left and right to output 9 and 10, and brought the signal back in via ST1. My first attempt to enable insert ended up with a massive feedback loop because ST1 by default feeds to the main too. I had to ensure that ST1 is muted, and make sure there’s no routing. After that, insert works well. I have now a wonderful buss processing with SQ-5 using SSL Fantom + SSL-style buss compressor. Success!

I agree with Hugh here — an external drive usually beats any thumb drive. I would prefer the one that can power itself through USB, and won’t have any spinning mechanisms (oh hi WD Raptor). While waiting for my new SQ5, I am considering the recording options. This one should do the trick, I think:

SanDisk 1TB Extreme Portable SSD – Up to 1050MB/s – USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 – External Solid State Drive

Thanks, ioTon; your response is super helpful indeed.

For clarification purposes, I am in the market for a digital mixer and currently debating over Midas M32R Live or Allen & Heath SQ5.

With your guide, it seems that I should be able to use XLR Out 9 and 10 to send the mixed signal to Fusion and return the processed signal via ST1 using balanced cables (to save XLR inputs), where it’s then routed back to the main mix. Using the same technique, I should (in theory) be able to patch in my Lexicon MX400XL (XLR Out 7,8 => ST2).

I hope I am making the right choice with SQ5.
