The problem about assigning the FX ret Mix button as you propose is this:
This button is already defined as Mix out to Auxes, Groups, Mains, just like any other Input’s Mix button. Changing this would break the logic behind the whole forward/backward mix assign procedure and make things more confusing.
Other than that, I had the same thoughts before, too…..

    Hi there,
I’ve been using Waves’ Soundgrid system since November.
Bought it because there was no onboard Deesser or multiband comp last year.
Version 9.0 was VERY stable, there are some minor hickups during The loading process since V9.5., guess they’ll fix that with he next update.
Up and running, it never had any issues at all!
I started with the Gold bundle plus C6 multiband, which is my most important tool.
Then GAS hit me and in the end (is there an end?) I got the CLA comps, SSL bundle, Renaissance bundle, Aphex exciter and some other plugs.

What I use and love the most are:
    C6 for master and vocals
SSL comp for condensing and gluing groups,
    SSL eq for everything Rock
RenDeesser (much better than the onboard deesser)
Doubler ro fatten up vocals and (real) strings
Aphex Exciter to put some shimmer on top of the voices.

If I travel without my GLD I also use Ren Reverbs, they saved my ass more than one time…
I configured the soundgrid system to record 40 channels directly after the head amps with Reaper and 24 channels of insert connected to Multirack.

After all,I’m very happy with that setup.

    You`re right, plevrier,
I followed your procedure and saw the same issue.
Funny thing: select Ch 45/46 and change the gain at the gain rotary under the strip or the iPad slider: you see the gain LEDs in the preamp section up left change as well (that`s OK).
But if you change Ch43’s gain with the rotary under the strip (Ch45/46 are still selected) , the strip’s gain changes, but not the corresponding red LED up left. So you can make the LEDs and the strip show a different gain setting for the same channel [:0]

@eotsskleet: at this setup channels 45/46 have inputs 1/2 and ch 43 is still on input 43.
You would be right with your response if they`d share the same input, but in this case they`re not…..

    Thanks for the replies, guys,
    been travelling over the weekend.

@ eotsskleet: the display seems not to be the problem since the whole desk (including color channel strips and LEDs) hangs at the very beginning of the boot process.

@ bigbean: good suggestions, thanks for that.
Unfortunately there seems to be no boot process to interrupt, as stated, the desk hangs right from the start.
Booting with a firmware USB didn`t help either (good idea, though).
Just contacted with the German distributor for service suggestions.
    I´ll keep you informend.
    greetings…
    Pit

    UPDATE:
I just talked to the service technician, hes thinks that the touchscreen computer is broken, they’ve had that twice.
    Have an appointment tomorrow morning.

    Thanks for the reply, TJ,
I got the firmware update the day it was released and did a couple of gigs since, so this might not be the problem….

    any hints are highly appreciated

Does it make sense to put three channels(I assume they`re side by side) on a DCA?
I think they`re easy to grab`n move with one hand, I´d rather do that than blocking one of my 20 faders fot this.

    …no offense, just my thought….

    Well said! [:)]
The request to add a (from a personal view) nice or important feature to a product that we bought with the advertised set of EXISTING features at that time should be humble and polite.

We all LOVE our GLDs and knew what we would get as we handed over the money.
    Let`s stick to friendly proposals.

…. and repeating the same request over and over again does not put it up on the list…..

How do you/can you: Globally set an aux to pre/post fade. The routing screen looked like it globally set the ‘tap point’, but not the pre/post fade.

And, on the PEQ screen for the efx racks outputs, why don’t the ‘channel strip’ (left of touch screen) EQ controls become active for this PEQ

First press the blue Mix button of the Aux you want to change.
If you press the green “pre/post” key in the middle together with a channel select key (also green), it will change the status of that single channel. Pressing the “pre/post” key together with the green select key of the Aux master will change ALL of the channels at the same time. The pre or post status is shown ( in veeeery small letters) on the lower right side of the channel strip above the faders.

The Fx send channels have no EQS, the FX returns do have them, they also show on the left (physical button) side.

    Hope that could help…
    Pit. [:)]

Do you think I could use for example FX short send 3 to FX rack 3 (Delay FX) > feed FX rack 5 (Reverb FX) from FX rack 3 and use FX return 5 as my delay return?

that’s how I read the signal diagram. Back at the console on wednesday, let’s see then…

my apple USB keyboard works just fine with the GLD.
But in order to confirm a new channel name, you will still have to press the green on-screen button instead of the keyboard’s return key. this slows down the process again.

@A&H people: maybe you might want to link the return and escape keys to the ok- and cancel- button, how’ bout that?

    Chris,
you can return an FX through a regular input channel. There you can insert another FX.
Not in front of my console at the moment, but the system block diagram shows “other rack FX” as possible input for any of the eight FXs.
    Maybe that’s another solution?
    pit

    edit:
to answer your question, No, FX short sends do not have insert points.
But If you use a regular aux send as an FX send ( which burns up one -or two if in stero- of your 20 mix busses), you’ll get an insert in a send bus ….

I recommend to start with a template and personalize it to your needs and wishes. You can then save it, lock it and use as your own starting point.
I included the “emergency exit”, changed the color setup and set up the GRPs, AUXes and MTXes to get the most out of the 20 mixbusses. I also loaded my favorite set of FXs.
You could also activate all of the HiPass filters and comps, as eotsskleet proposed in another thread and set EQs to your preferred start values.
    Works good for me…

    Hello Willy,
The “clear PAFL” button is just for doing this: clear the pre/after-fade listening situation.

If you need an emergency exit (this was the FIRST thing I set up in my personal template), dedicate a key to “select mix L-R”.
This does exaxtly what you`re asking for. I have it on button #10. It lights up red if you`re safe ( mix l/R), no matter if L/R is showing on your active layer. Very convenient!

    hope that helped…..
