Hmm, how high are the input gains? If the gains are set extreme conservative this might be the problem. And how is the multitrack routing done? Do you use tielines or direct out? And if you use direct outs, what tap point do you use?
Hope the OP comes back. I’m betting this. As even 20-30dB gain in the DAW would typically be pretty clean -unless the input levels were way low back at the mixer.

Thanks. That is the SE9G2 model shown in the link.
I see kingston is having a new G3 maybe G4 model listed at other sites.
I wonder if they would be the identical manufacture or if they made changes somehow. You get to run the function tests on the batch.. :>)
2020/01/09 at 7:30 pm #88653Gotcha. It’s also the G2 ver. of interest here as the (non) G2 they don’t even care to mention a speed spec..

2020/01/09 at 7:06 pm #88651Debzdoodle, Looking for ‘Kingston Traveler I find a bunch all called DataTravelers. Could you show your specific drive please?
Thanks
(Aka’Wayne2 over at ProSound Web :>)2020/01/09 at 1:51 am #88643Ok, I got the T5 formatted to FAT32, formatted on the QU and did a pair of 40 min recordings with no errors indicated. Going to follow that up on the RME UFX.
Decided to go ahead and spring for a new Sandisk Extreme for test.
There are ‘Extreme ‘Go, and ‘Pro, 3.1s now.
Specs/reviews show the ‘Go read/write speeds about the same as my older ‘Extremes, the ‘Pro faster yet.
Which would be the better test here?
I don’t need a $100/128gig (min. size) drive.. With the 64gig ‘Go coming in at $40.2020/01/08 at 10:50 pm #88640Thank you !
2020/01/08 at 8:16 pm #88637I just purchased one based on a member here. Discovered neither QUs or the RME UFX will take exFAT as a format. Windows will not give FAT32 as a format option. Apparently I need to use one of the dedicated drive programs to get it to FAT32. Was that your method?
Also, then found back on the RME forum the fellow that first tested and recommended it there later posted a 180′ when he later found it makes pauses in recordings!
https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=11257&p=5(Lee7) I have a tiny USB stick that I use just for show intros/outros etc, but for the purpose of multi-tracking I have started using a spare Samsung T5 500GB SSD drive that I was initially using with Macbook, that drive works great and is way more fast enough than it needs to be.
Downside is they’re not cheap, although you can pick them up second hand and they’re very small in comparison to a regular HDD or indeed other SSD on the market.

2020/01/08 at 4:54 am #88621Anytime there is a hint of a mixer problem AH tells me to open a trouble ticket.
They are very very quiet on this issue.I can’t tell if this means you did or didn’t open what would seem to be a legit claim for making you right on a faulty unit or not?
2020/01/07 at 9:09 pm #88613Volounteer -or others; ‘Boards won’t see USB drives at all’, and ‘new drives (as opposed to ‘older) won’t work (for recording) are two of the failure modes that have been discussed here on our forums. (Mine -‘skipped some files’ seems to be mine alone.)
Sandisk Cruzer Glide 16- formatted ok, but 9 errors in 2min rec.
Sandisk Cruzer Glide 32- format ok but no errors in 4 min rec.
Sandisk Ultra 32 –stuck in/on ‘formatting’ but w/no progress. So as I posted, I didn’t buy a new ‘Extreme- maybe I should have as well, but here are two out of three random newly bought for test thumbs that at least got past that first fail mode theory.
If they work on two QUs here but not yours, that would point to a specific-to-mixer problem and, warranty/trouble tag for Allen&Heath -to explain and correct.
2020/01/06 at 8:54 am #88588Follow up- It looks fine back on the PC and didn’t trash the drive’s format but did remove ‘setup apps that were on it. Could they even apply to the QU?
2020/01/06 at 8:11 am #88587Ok, shout out to Rodf (page 17) ..or anyone.
I’m trying this drive out and it is exFAT -similar to but not exactly FAT32.
I dropped it straight onto the QU for formatting but it has stuck on the ‘reading drive’ stage.
Should I be doing it differently?
If this is like a thumb drive that also responded like this this evening, it trashed the existing format and had to be re-formatted on the PC.
Should I perhaps try FAT32 in that case?
Thanks” We bought a couple of 500GB Samsung T5 SSD drives and they have worked without errors recording 1hr30 Multitracks.
All 5 of this year’s BBC Radio Reith Lectures were done this way.Samsung MU-PA500B/EU Portable SSD T5 500GB
2020/01/06 at 7:18 am #88586Here’s results of some brand new drives, part of some experimenting here (the short ver). All formatted on the QU16.
Sandisk Cruzer Glide 16- formatted ok, but 9 errors in 2min rec.
Sandisk Cruzer Glide 32- format ok but no errors in 4 min rec.
Sandisk Ultra 32 –stuck in/on ‘formatting’ but w/no progress.
Formatted on the pc (these were also all checked on the PC prior as ‘fine BTW, but this one needed format after the failure on the QU.) Second attempt the same on the QU.
For what it’s worth all of these were fine on the RME UFX this evening, but the Cruzer Glides had ‘use rates 20-35%, where the ‘Ultra 32 18% and the (existing) Sandisk Extremes came in around 13%. (That’s right on top of their being QU’ formatted BTW.2020/01/05 at 10:55 pm #88579Volounteer, re this and our other thread- where different users have different types of USB troubles.. I haven’t gone back and reviewed the posts if you said your’s is a new mixer, but a question;
Could it be that your situation -no drives recognized on the mixer- is simply a defect on your particular mixer? And better yet addressed as a warranty issue?FWIW my next contribution is to try a selection of ‘new’ thumbs (to test that ‘old ones were ok but not ‘new’ theme) and an SSD or two.
Also, having looked into this further, including results looking at other manufacture’s situations, it appears the consensus is thumb drives are problematic for multi track (except for RME- unique and wizards they are..) SSDs are -though I don’t quite understand why.. are The Answer.
Thanks

2020/01/01 at 9:54 am #88522Just tossing this in here as a note and curiosity; from the last post on one of the SQ forums..
“Have you at any time between working and not working stick, had it plugged into a pc running any Windows newer than 7 ?
The only time I had a problem was when I plugged the stick into my Win 10 pc, but never in any of my my Win 7’s or Macs.”
