I’m happy to accept that people do compress as they record – in the early days of digital you pretty well had to, and maybe it is still more common than I’d thought.
But, we are no longer recording to 8bit or even 16bit machines (are we?), so I’m not convinced that compression is necessary.
However, this is a discussion for a recording forum, not here. If recording from direct outputs, post DSP, were made possible, I’d not be complaining.
2014/01/08 at 11:01 am #37139I think it is a pretty standard STUDIO practice to record live instruments and use eq and light compression to improve the tone and even levels, then set the gain again after.
Really? OK I’ll admit that I don’t do much studio work myself these days, but I work with a lot of people who do.
But, I’d never want to compress anything as I recorded it. There’s no way of going back.
I’m pretty sure most people do all that stuff in the DAW afterwards – to be honest it’s probably got better compressors in it anyway.
2013/12/19 at 2:51 pm #36929Not sure I understand the question.
Are you playing real drums, electric drums or are they a midi track on some sort of sequencer?
The QU-16 can not turn a midi signal into sound.
2013/12/19 at 12:41 pm #36924I think there’s enough space for an extended display to show:
All input & output meters with gain reduction.
All fader levels – these do not need to work, just show their current level.
All the mute buttons – again, these do not need to work, just show their current state).
RTA
The main parameters of at least the first two effects.
The status of any USB playback / recording.
The timeIt would be nice to access this screen simply by turning the iPad to portrait orientation so that no extra buttons are required.
I think this would allow me to see all the things I can see when using an analogue desk & outboard rack.
Have I forgotten anything?
2013/12/11 at 2:27 pm #36765I’ve been a life time Behringer hater. But they are really doing a good job communicating what they’re planning to do in the next months
Is publishing pictures & spec for a desk, then it just completely vanishing without a trace, doing a good job?
Probably not a good idea to discus that here though.
2013/12/09 at 11:26 am #36683Good call Lou. I’ll second that.
As I’m here & it’s related, I’ll be cheeky and repeat my request to make this screen available on the iPad too!
2013/12/04 at 4:05 pm #36565Ok, seriously…no need to patronize.
You’re right. I apologise.
2013/12/04 at 1:28 pm #36551Surely a WAV file created on Pro Tools should be the same as one created on any other DAW (for any given sample & bit setting).
Are you saying that Pro Tools is creating some form of non standard WAV file?
2013/12/04 at 9:32 am #36541A quick search on Google (you may have heard of it), brings up this:
2013/12/03 at 11:26 am #36487I’d like to see some sort of “we will look into that” answer too – it is nice to know there’s somebody out there.
The problem for A&H though (as for any company) is that they must be really carful not to promise, or even hint at, features or time-scales unless they’re really sure they can actually do them.
I think Mackie had some big problems with the TT24 (or was it the X32) some years back, after a rather too enthusiastic employee posted some “coming soon” stuff on their forum, and then it didn’t happen.
To be honest, the amount of posts here from A&H seem to be about normal for a manufacturer’s site. Some do more, but some do less, and many have no forum at all.

2013/12/02 at 3:52 pm #36463Link’s OK since my edit!
2013/12/02 at 2:55 pm #36457I use a case a bit like this for when I go on stage or around the room with my iPad. Makes it very easy to carry & use.
Edit – can’t get link to work….
2013/11/28 at 2:00 pm #36395No, it’s a (picture of a) little switch. See page 16 of the manual, top right photo.
This is only with dSnake input:
Channel Preamp source
Local (red Gain) – Rear panel Mic/Line sockets
feeding the internal Qu mixer preamps. These are padless
preamps featuring wide gain range.dSNAKE (yellow Gain) – Remote preamps located in
an AR2412 or AR84 AudioRack on stage or other
remote location and connected to the Qu dSNAKE
port via a Cat5 cable. These preamps include Pad
switching.2013/11/26 at 4:46 pm #36333I rather like the fact that it’s difficult to get at. One less temptation for the drunk punter (who is going to sign the band up and turn them into stars, just after they’ve done a free gig for his girlfriend’s birthday party next week, blah blah blah….. hey that’s freaky, that slider moved on it’s own, how does it know when to do that man? blah blah blah…..)
I also like the lock function, & my headphones 😉
2013/11/25 at 9:54 am #36307I’m more than happy to put tape on the desk – one of the reasons I got this one is that it does not have the dozen or so layers that my Roland has. (Anybody want to buy an M380 system? 😉 )
I got the Qu-16 before the iPad app was available, confident that it was coming soon. Which it did, good.
But I have to say I’m astonished that it dose not have any sort of naming. Even if I was happy to stick tape on my iPad, it would not work, because of the way the channels scroll left<>right.
