It is a routing problem. FX 1 & 2 are normally set up to “return” to the desk through their own channels which will not be recorded this way.

You could do what you want by using the effects units (3 and/or 4 maybe) as inserts on your drum machine channels.

1. 11U is the front to back length of the console’s surface – remember you need more space if you want to leave things plugged in, which I assume you do. If you were to mount it in a flat topped rack, the back panel would go about 4U below the top.

2. Yes you can mute things with the iPad.

3. Yes (I don’t think 1.3’s available yet, but it already does this in 1.2)

4. I’d use ALT OUT for an exact copy of the mix, or (better IMO) do as you suggest with a stereo Aux, possibly set as post fade.

I’m not sure where to put this, so I’ll put it here, as it’s sort of relevant.

Since dSNAKE & the AR boxes are common to both the Qu & GLD desks, would it make sense for them to have their own area of the forum, like the ME boxes do?

G Lee, I believe you may be being overly cautious about the phantom power thing.

I’d not want to put a simple split on a mic to two separate desks with phantom power (though in the real world, even this is not usually a problem). But for the same desk – or in this case stage box – I’m sure a normal split lead with phantom will be fine as, it’s all from the the same power supply.

If a mic is connected to two inputs, all the voltages will match exactly, then each one needs to only supply half the current required. That’s not going to damage anything.

That’s how I understand it too.

If you go into your iPad’s General Settings, and look in Accessibility you’ll find the Zoom function. Turn this on and you can then do a three fingered tap to make the button bigger. OK, it’s not that much bigger, but better than nothing.

When you say the online instructions, do you mean the zoom function in the iPad’s Accessibility section, or something else?

You can also lock parts of the iPad’s screen with its accessibility “Guided Access” function . Once you gat the hang of it, it’s quite easy lock it down to only allow the volumes of one mix to be controllable for instance.

If it’s not your iPad though, you may find some resistance to this idea……

I don’t have the desk here, so I can’t test this and could be talking rubbish!

But I think, if you use your computer’s “Audio MIDI Setup” app to create a new “Aggregate Device” you should be able to choose any input you want. You then get Audacity to use that aggregate device.

Just to clarify – by “layer 3”, GCumbee means the upper layer button, and “layer 1” is the lower button.

So you can’t record ST2 & ST3 with the Qu-Drive.

If I’m mixing a band live, and making a multitrack recording at the same time, I really don’t want any changes I make on the desk to be recorded, as I’d have to try to compensate for them afterwards. And I certainly don’t want to be tied down & not adjusting something because it will effect the recording.
