I have a QU 16 and I use the same Sandisk Extreme thumb drive to record my band’s two to two and one half hour practice every week. I have never had any problems with the recordings. Always finishes the recording with 0 errors. I only use 10 channels and my individual track wav files are usually somewhere between 1 and 1.5 Gb in size, depending on when I start the recorder and how long we go.

I know this does not provide any recommendations for you, but I thought it might be helpful to know that this should work. I agree with your suggestion to try a different thumb drive, but the Sandisk Extreme is usually very reliable and compatible with the QU mixers. They can however be pretty temperamental with USB storage devices.

    Good luck!

Thanks for checking in Dick. Both are Ver 1.90 and match.

Edit – Upon further review, the iPad app is Ver 1.91 and the QU is Ver 1.90. I will upgrade the QU to Ver 1.91 tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. I’ll come back with an update.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing that. It is good to know they continue to look at ways to make an already great product even better.

Yes, the update will work fine. The chrome dials are just a cosmetic upgrade. All the machines are identical on the inside. Download the firmware, update and you should be good to go. Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the forum!

    Rob,

Can you get a Sweetwater rep. to special order them for you? I have always found them to be most helpful.

That’s a great idea Dave. Bob’s ideas would be good too!! Definitely hard to navigate the way it is now.

    +1

I am using PT 12.4 with Windows 7, but there should not be a big difference as far as setup and I/O is concerned. Here are some things to check/try.

    1. Make sure you have the latest A&H Asio driver installed on your PC.
    2. Open the Asio control panel and verify that it recognizes your QU mixer and says that it is connected.
    3. On the PC, make sure the QU is selected as the Playback and/or Recording device.
    4. Open PT and make sure under Setup that you have selected the QU Asio Audio Engine and go through the I/O Setup choosing the default option for Inputs, Outputs, Buses and Inserts.
    5. Make sure in your PT project you have selected the correct inputs and outputs for each track.
    6. On the QU, select the Processing, Fn, and Preamp buttons. Select the Global USB Source as USB Streaming. Now set the appropriate channels you plan to use to USB B.

I have just started using my QU 16 as a front end interface for Pro Tools, but everything seems to be working OK for now once I made these changes.

    Hope this helps.

    @Heat

If I understand your question correctly, there are two ways to do this in Pro Tools. The first way is to create your project in Pro Tools as a 24 bit 48 khz project. Then use the Import Audio function in PT. The second way, if your project is already created as a 16 bit or 24 bit 44.1 khz project, then use the Import Audio function in PT. When you select the files to be imported, use the Convert button right below the selection window and the files will be converted to the same format as the project they are being imported into in PT.

Sorry I have not responded to all these great suggestions earlier. I got sidetracked on another project.

@robbocurry – Great suggestions. I certainly thought I hit play after arming. I thought I checked that the counter/timer was advancing and the meters showed activity. I use a Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 drive. It has worked great every time prior to this one. Definitely did not make a two track. Had the meters for multi-track displayed and active.

@andreas & @matts – Yeah, I was not aware you could recover the data utilizing the “Qu Drive Recording Recovery Procedure”. Unfortunately, I was using Firmware version 1.60. However, I still went through several efforts to try to recover the data using various tricks and utilities with no luck. I am thinking more and more that I never actually started the recording. The 18 .wav files were present on the drive, but each was only 1K in size and contained no data. Matt, thanks for the links to the info on Understanding The QU-Drive. Good stuff!

@bob – See USB drive used above. Have never received any errors with this drive. The counter I was referring to is the time indicator on the touch screen.

Tonight I upgrade my firmware to Ver 1.71, so if this happens again, at least I will have the right firmware to at least attempt a recovery.

Thanks again guys for all your suggestions and info. I am going to give up on this one and use the information gained here to make sure I check more thoroughly the next time we go live on stage. I appreciate all the ideas. Cheers!!

Thanks for pointing this out. I did not see this when it was originally posted. Looks very interesting.
