However, I have noticed that the GLD does not have a de-esser or limiter like the ilive. Does anyone know if there are plans to remedy this, or include a de-esser option in the fx rack?

Also the GLD only has two stereo channels. Do you find this annoying or is ganging channels together good enough?

The ilive had a dedicated subwoofer bus and the GLD does not. Do you find that using a post fader aux with sends on rotaries is just as good?

Are there other important differences between the ilive and GLD that I have missed.

    Thank you.

I have a fair amount of time on both the T112 and GLD-80. I don’t miss the dedicated subwoofer bus on the GLD; a postfader aux works just as well, in my experience.

For me, channel ganging works great for stage sources like stereo keyboards, stereo guitars, etc, but I don’t like it as much for playback sources. It would be nice to be able to add stereo channels, but it’s not a deal breaker.

A channel de-esser/limiter like the iLive has would be nice, but again, not a deal breaker in my case. It might be nice if A&H added some dynamics options to the available FX list like they have in the iLive line; this could include de-essers and limiters along with dynamic EQ and multiband compression.

I will note that the GLD has some advantages over the iLive as well. The expansion card is at FOH instead of on stage, which (in my application) works much better for Dante recording and transport. In addition, with GLD it is possible to use Dante (or another expansion card) and Aviom at the same time, since the AR2412 has a built-in Aviom-compatible monitor port. That may or may not matter in your application.

The GLD’s touch screen graphics are beautifully-designed; some of the best I’ve ever seen. And it’s a fantastic-sounding mixer as well.

I’m currently using a GLD with AR2412 and a single AR84, and have been talking up the GLD as a pretty amazing mixer & value to anyone who asks – I’ve been thrilled with it for our use so far.

    Anyway here are my suggestions:

    1. For the Delay FX engines, display delay time in BPM rather than milliseconds. Several other manufacturers do it; it makes much more sense for music applications since the band is usually synced to click measured in BPM. Bonus points: round it to the nearest 1 BPM (i.e. tapping at 77.38 BPM rounds to 77 BPM). If there’s not enough DSP, I’d be happy to sacrifice one of the other FX units to make it happen (reducing my available FX from 8 to 7, for example).

    2. Also for the Delay FX, make delay times above 1,360 ms available. There are frequent times when I really want more delay than that. 2 seconds would be sufficient for any of my needs; really 1.5 or 1.6 seconds would probably cover me, but 1.36 seconds doesn’t quite do the job.

    3. It would be really nice to be able to create additional stereo channels – even if this was part of the “basic” mixer configuration (along with choices like LR, LCR, etc). I don’t really need it for stereo stage inputs like keyboards, but I usually run more than 2 channels of playback; it would be nice to have them for USB playback, iPod input, and video input, for example. For now I’m just using ganging, which works, but isn’t the same.

    4. The ability to assign a softkey to be a “play” or “record” control for USB audio, without having to go to the USB audio screen would be fantastic.

    5. It would be really nice for the “speaker-management”-like FX unit available in the iLive to also be available in the GLD.

    6. The long shot: a “GLD-112” with 8 extra faders would be extremely welcome, and I would probably buy 2 of them very quickly; instead we’re weighing possibly buying one iLive T112 now and perhaps another down the road, but the GLD offers some features we really like, most notably the ability to use Aviom and Dante simultaneously without kludging something together or spending a ton of extra money to go the modular route.

Anyway, thanks to A&H for a great product, and for continued improvements!

Leon A&H UK. Please do not adjust your set; normal service will be resumed as soon as possible!

Oops, just realized the last sentence of #1 was intended to be the last sentence of #2, where it is much more logical :)

    Thanks for the reply!

I have this exact same issue: channels dropped during Dante playback from a Windows 7 machine, except I’m using Pro Tools 9.

Anyone have any ideas? This kind of makes the virtual soundcheck feature useless, although I, like the OP, haven’t had any trouble with the recording side of things.

The ME-1 units will stay powered on as long as they are plugged into the PoE switch.

Be careful when choosing a switch, because although lots of switches advertise, for example, 8 PoE ports, most will have a relatively low total power limit. For ME-1 you need 15 Watts per port, so take this into account if you got the standard PoE route. The ME-U can supply 15 Watts on all 10 ports simultaneously.

    Hope this helps

    Jeff,

Is the Dante card for the MEU the same as the Dante card for the mixer, or is it a different card?

    Thanks!

I’m hearing the ME-1 is priced nearly identically to the Aviom A-16ii.

Sorry, a little clarification: the faders don’t establish a “maximum” level, because DCAs can be above 0 dB. The fader level and any DCAs it’s assigned to are summed to determine the effective fader level for that channel.

The DCA will only affect the other channels in the gang if they are also assigned to the DCA – and I believe if you have chosen to include “routing” in the ganged attributes, assigning one of the channels will assign all of them.

I’d like to be able to set a tap delay longer than the current limit of 1,360 ms. One or two songs in my application call for a delay more like 1500-1600 ms, but I can’t do it due to the 1,360 ms limit.

Also – I would love to be able to switch the tap delay “unit” to BPM instead of milliseconds.
