Yep. Don’t get me wrong – I absolutely love my GLDs (an 80 and a 120), but Avid has a much better tempo solution than A&H.
Really, re-doing the delay FX system is my biggest “want” in the GLD and iLive lines.
I agree on a global tempo (with each FX unit having the option of what “note” (i.e. quarter note, dotted eighth, etc) to use.
In addition, tap tempo should be in BPM, not milliseconds – nobody is using an FX unit to time-align loudspeakers; we’re using it for *music*, which uses BPM, frequently synced to a click source.
Finally, 1360 milliseconds isn’t a long enough maximum delay; sometimes I want more than that. Any way to increase that to 2 or 2.5 seconds?
That’s really my only quarrel with the GLD, I think – it’s an absolute joy to mix on in general, and the ME-1 personal mixers are incredible.

The Zyxel will do 120W, enough to power 8. I’m using it that way and it works great.

Better than nothing, but not the same thing.
I think top of my wish list right now is more than 1,360 ms of delay on the FX delay unit. My previous #1 request was the GLD-112, but that wish got answered

Originally posted by Chris93Reading through the new GLD brochure about how both the GLD and a computer running the editor can have independant control of the “guts” of the GLD it occurred to me that it would be very useful to be able to use a second GLD in place of the computer.
All the audio would stay with one GLD/AR2412 but the second console could act like an iLive surface and control functions within the other GLD the way a laptop would.
Chris
I wonder if maybe the QU-16 could do this…it can apparently act as a MIDI controller for a DAW, and the GLD accepts MIDI control…

Best,

I think you wouldn’t connect it to the ME-U, as the ME-U will convert Dante to the “monitor” protocol used by the ME-1 mixers. You could, however, connect it to a port on a Dante card – either the one in your mixer or the one in the ME-U – as long as you configure the card to run in “Switch” mode rather than “Redundant” mode.

Originally posted by ahjeffThat is a good advice, as unmanaged switches don’t have all these other protocols and systems running in the first place. One downside is that they are often limited to only a few port of PoE at the power required by the ME-1.
Hope this helps

We just upgraded from an Aviom system to the ME-1 system. We are using a Zyxel 1100-16P switch; it works great and will power 8 ports with PoE at the level needed for the ME-1. No problems at all so far (with a few weeks of use in a church setting).

If I select blue “MIX” button on an output channel then press (and hold) the center blue “MIX” button as if I were to add or delete channels from that mix, would it be possible to see the input member’s blue LED lit (only while I’m holding down the center blue button)? It will be quicker than having to scan the scribble strip LCDs for the word “ON”.
In other words, while I am holding the center blue button, if the channels that show “on” in the LCDs can also have their blue LEDs lit it would be a faster way of scanning who is a member of that particular output group. Those LEDs are nice and bright and a big help.
When the center blue button is released the blue LEDs can return to normal operation exactly like it works now. It would be like your “alternate view” button to see actual input channel numbers instead of descriptive names, which is also very useful thank you.
John
This is a great idea, although I might suggest having the “select” buttons light up instead of the “mix” buttons to avoid confusion. Or maybe have them flash or something – but yeah, great idea.

Dante works fine with Pro Tools 9 and above; it does -not- work with Pro Tools 8 and lower (LE etc).

For multitrack… Can I use a Windows PC? Or It’s just for Mac?
What do I need for that? Thanks! From Argentina.
djmanco
I use a Windows 7 laptop (with dual hard drives) running PT9; it works great. I have also gotten Ableton (on a Mac) to work with Dante (for a drummer to send loops/tracks/click/etc in multitrack in a live setting), no major problems. You just need Dante Virtual Soundcard for any computer you use with it; one license comes packaged with the Dante card, and they’re currently selling additional licenses for $30 each, which is a steal.

I understand why you would have this for groups.
This is actually a common feature on higher-end analog desks like the Midas Heritage line, Yamaha PM-series, and many others. One benefit is that it allows you to turn off that aux send without losing the level you had it at if you want it back.

Originally posted by eotsskleetHey there.. i own a GLD-80 with both Racks AR2412 and AR84 but without any extended cards.
Soon we have a Event where i need a FOH-Mixer and a seperate Monitoring-Mixer. My suggestion was to rent a T112 for FOH and use de GLD-80 for Monitoring. What’s the best way to connect them together? I think i would need a extended-card like ACE to connect the consoles together and share then the AR-Racks from my GLD-80? Or do i need a iDR-Rack for this Setup?
Another question is how i should use the “Gain or Trim” function on both consoles? Would you prefer to leave the monitor consoles on “GAIN” to setup the rack-preamps and switch FOH-Mixer to “Trim” function? Or is it better to Setup first the preams with the monitor Mixer and then switch on both consoles to Trim? We will have serveral Bands a day so i think one console should stay in “Gain-Mode”? Or is it better to swap it after Linecheck?
Maybe there will be some own FOH Engineers with the Bands… if they want to use another digital-mixing consoles like Yamaha CL5 oder Soundcraft Vi1… is it still possible to setup the FOH-MON connection with the AR-Racks? In this case.. which extend-card would you prefer?
Thanks for your help!
GLD-80 / AR2412 / AR84 / Qu-16
I want to make sure that you’re aware that you cannot use a T112 surface without an iDR rack; the T112 is not a stand-alone mixer and cannot be used as one, and the AR racks cannot replace the iDR racks.
If you’re thinking other bands will bring consoles, you’ll almost certainly need a copper split snake.

My old Yamaha 01v96 can be purchased for about $1200 used these days and it has an off-line editor. Used for quick set-up and an overall picture during plays it is a huge time saver.
I was thinking of starting a list of what my old 01V96 has that my new GLD does not (especially at 8 to 10 times the purchase price). I must admit to feeling a bit ripped off when I think of what I had to give up to get the GLD.
Oh, to the person who asked about the old days and mixing analog. We chose to buy new technology and enter the present. We have a reason to expect or at least ask for features that are in much cheaper offerings. I have little need for the iPad option but do not ask people what they did in the old days. I see good applications for the iPad too, just not now for me.
If you purchase a new computer you expect your new one to have at least the horsepower your old one had. If your new computer only allowed 100 megs of RAM you would not be happy I am sure.
Thank you
Good grief – spare us the whaaaambulance. I’ve got a couple 01v96s that i will trade for your GLD so you feel less ripped off. I would love a spare GLD and would gladly give up all those “missing features” from my 01vs to do it.
It would be great if A&H implemented every feature on everyone’s wish list, and certainly pricing pressure from other low cost options increases the odds of getting those features to stay competitive, but it’s a little much to blame the manufacturer that they’re missing a critical feature and you’ve been ripped off, even though they have never ever indicated they would have that feature. If it is that big a deal, you should have bought something else, or stuck to your Yamahas.
We purchased a GLD for my church’s portable system and I *LOVE* it. LOVE it. An incredible value for the price.
BUT – an offline editor would be a nice addition for rider friendliness.
My primary touring gig is mostly an artist doing solo fly dates (artist & piano/guitar/tracks), but we do some full band fly dates as well. We just finished rewriting our rider. I had them add the GLD to the solo rider, but not the band rider, specifically because there’s no editor software to build a show file ahead of time.
The iLive made the cut for the new band rider (along with the obvious M7, CL5, and Avid desks), but the GLD is on the solo rider only, since for solo shows I can dial things in quick enough that the show file doesn’t really matter.
So yes, the GLD is an incredible desk, but editor software would potentially land it on at least one more rider than it’s currently on.
