Desk recordings from digital desks will almost always sound quite quiet as, assuming you use sensible gain structure, you’ll be peaking at around -12dBfs. Commercial recordings peak right at 0dBfs and are compressed to within an inch of their life (and sometimes beyond!) and so will always sound massively louder. Just take your recording in to your DAW of choice, apply a little compression / limiting if necessary and turn it up until it’s peaking just below 0dBfs.

If there is to be a mobile app for controlling it, I’d suggest it’s developed for the most prevalent platform rather than the one whose users are most vocal (Q1 2014 sales – iOS: 15%, Android: 81%). As it happens, there’s already a basic Android app out there that I used just last week (QuMixDroid). Currently only controls the main mix faders and pan but that was all I needed.

I had exactly the same problem, again using a drive I’d previously formatted in the desk and used to update previous firmware.
After double-checking the update instructions, I noticed that the downloaded firmware file had a lower case extension whereas the instructions said it should be upper case. I renamed the file and it worked fine.
(I have a suspicion that the renaming may not have made the difference; rather just trying again may have done it. It does seem to take ages for the desk to register the disk being plugged in (an Adata from the approved list). Is that normal?)
