If one had a pretty bad reputation (deserved or not) for reliability they may feel the need to offer longer warranty than one that has a good reputation ?

Leaving warranties aside, all of the SQ desks have a maximum of 12 aux busses, although they all can be stereo. So if you need 14 separate mixes you probably need to look at another desk – Avantis maybe.

It’s a digital input, so no preamp, so no gain.

You have trim instead, which you can think of as the same thing.

    Hit “Home” then “Meters”.

But your video team is right – you can’t

      mix

Any of the desk’s output sockets (1 – 14 on SQ6*) can be set from the IO Patch screen to be anything you want in the same way as you’ve assigned L&R output to 1 and 2 of your DX168 box.

Your choices of mixed outputs are AUX/GROUP 1 to 12 (which could all be stereo), L&R, and the 3 Matrix (which also may be in stereo).

So you need to patch your stream mix, however you’ve set it up, to local outputs 13 & 14.

*Theres A,B and the AES too, which may or may not be useful for your requirements

If I do gigs with a monitor desk, I usually am working with a friend, and we use DANTE to share inputs between his (not A&H) desk and mine. I really wouldn’t want to do these gigs with a tablet/computer at either end, so a stage box format SQ is of no interest to me for those. If I were to need a 2nd desk for this myself I would almost certainly be an SQ 5 or 7.

A lot of what I do though, does not use a monitor desk. I’ve SQ6 for “proper” gigs, and Qu-Pac for small/simple stuff – but the Qu is also a useful backup “just in case” for the larger stuff.

At the moment my only stage box is an AB2412. I increasingly find 24 inputs is not enough & have used the Qu-Pac for extra inputs a few times now – but dislike not having direct control of the preamps from the SQ.

So, I need another box, and think I should future proof myself and improve quality by going to 96kHz, so not getting another AB/AR.

That means DX168, or DT168 (I already have cards for either) look to be what I should get now, adding a second box soon if/when gigs really start happening again. Still can’t decide between DX or DT though.

But – if there were an SQ-stage box with 16+8 (or thereabouts) I/O then I’d almost certainly replace the Qu with it – and swap the AR2412 for a DX168. Bonus points if one SQ can control preamps on the other. It would be a better backup as shows could be transferred straight to it, and sound better.
I’m obviously expecting that this new desk would cost less than an SQ5.

Although I have a Qu-Pac, I’ve never actually mixed from the front panel and never had any wifi problems, so would be pretty happy with and SB type box -especially given that it could be hard wired to a laptop. However my suggestion to give it a few soft keys & foot switch still stands.

There is quite a bit of detail reference guide for the DLive series.

Have a look here from page 98.

If this is a permanent install and in a safe position where it can’t get walked on, or bashed by passers by, then any CAT5e cable will be fine. If you’re able to terminate it yourself (or know somebody who can) the you can get 300m of solid core install cable for under £60 – and put in several runs, as it’s useful for other things too. I’ve used this as “disposable” cable at festivals from time to time.

My own 50m drum, which is deployed at each gig so not always handled or protected as well as I’d like, is stranded, and has relatively thick rubber. It’s not a named brand, though was not the cheapest available – similar drums seem to be about £150 these days. Not had a problem with it in 10 years or so – though there’s alway a spare in the van.

I’d certainly find uses for that, and would be happy with (the optional) sacrificing a mix for it.
But, would people then want the groups to be LCR too?

I don’t think the selected mix is stored as part of a scene??

Another SLink card in the other SQ should allow the ME to be plugged in there.

AB or AR boxes would also allow the ME to be used.

Ah – that makes sense, and is useful. 🙂

Your SQ5 has 17 mic preamps (including talkback, which can be used like any other), and the 3 stereo inputs. So that’s 23. Adding a stage box would give you another 16 (or 8 or 24 if you choose an AR box)
You can use all of these at once , up to a total of 48.

Had a gig years ago when an audience member didn’t like the support act, and turned the (analogue) desk off. He thought it very funny, until security told him he was leaving.

Next day, I opened the desk up and bypassed the power switch, so of course it’s never happened to me again!

Would routing the effects return through a group get you what you need?
