GCumbee – I know what you mean. They are looking into the user permissions and windows drivers as a priority. I agree that channel naming (on the desk itself) would be a big improvement – especially if it linked to the ipad (and could be named via the ipad). I have noticed some good improvements in version 1.31 which haven’t even been listed in the “fixes”. I’ve been told that they are working on many of the forum ideas but it just takes time to test and implement.

It’d be great if they could get the ideas implemented quicker.

Yes I think this would be a good idea too. It should be pretty simple to implement (i hope?). It would make organisation of the files much easier!

Ah.. just one other thing. When you press record, the record button flashes and it says “arming” (a sort of standby) you then expect to press “record” again to get the recording started, you don’t – you have to press the “play” button to start recording.

When you thought you were recording was there a counter at the bottom of the screen? As this will indicate the elapsed recording time. If there’s no counter you probably didn’t start the recording – hence the play explanation above.

Not sure. There are details on recording with the Qu drive in the manual.

To get it to playback through the desk you need to change the inputs of the desk from “local” to “Qu Drive”. Each recorded channel will play back through it’s respective channel strip. You change the desk inputs by going to the “processing screen” and then click on the left hand side of the screen and press the FN button. You then should be given the choice of Local or Qu drive input. If the input pot is blue then it’s set to Qu Drive.

The only other thing to be sure of, is that you’ve formatted the hard drive using the Qu mixer before recording.

Hope this helps. My rough live gig recordings have come out pretty good. I had a few playback issues on the mixer itself (a few drop outs and pauses) but these seemed fine when I played them back on my computer. I think that proves that the recording works well but the mixer isn’t great at playing all the channels back. – That was with version 1.2 though so it may well be better on version 1.31.

Shame, as it I’m sure it wouldn’t be that hard to implement. I’m hoping they do sort this in the future. X32 is so highly specified it’s hard to not like. It is bloody massive though!

My desk is running V1.2 and the pops still happen when you plug a phantom powered mic in.

Yep Fingers crossed they’ll get this sorted, I’ve noticed the same thing.

Yep I’ve had the same problem. On mine the noise is coming from stereo input 3 only – the hard drive noise really comes through loud on that channel, the rest are fine. I’m using a Samsung M3 1TB.

Fact is there’s a freelance programmer who’s made a good android app for the Qu-16 on his own for free! I’ve downloaded it but not tried it yet – people say it works well but isn’t as comprehensive as the official ipad app. So it can’t be that hard! When it comes to apps I wouldn’t mind paying a few £’s to buy an app if it did what I wanted. Allen & heath seem to be lagging behind in this area whereas all the other big brands are streets ahead! Shame really as A&H make some great mixers.

Unfortunately he has no intention of making a GLD or iLive app.

From your description though it sounds like you need to get a new iPad!

Good question – well spotted! I reckon it’ll be tomorrow or Wednesday (4th or 5th Feb) as that’s when they tend to release the new firmware. I’m gutted there’s still no multiple iPad option. The new firmware doesn’t seem to have any advantages for the Qu-16. It’s all about the new Qu-24 in the manual.

You would have thought so but the band all own their own ipads, it would be me paying for the ME-1’s to aid their monitoring. We already have a van full of monitors which we need to keep. Multiple ipads is what we need – wireless is the way to go for us. We always need to set up quickly with as few wires as possible!

Thanks for your help, it’s good to know that the ME-1’s are worth buying.

I’ve just seen the version 1.3 manual, and no – still no multiple ipads! – I’m very disappointed, I’ve been waiting for this since the mixer was released. I wouldn’t even mind if there was a small app fee to cover their programming fees, although I’m sure the single iPad thing is a planned and imposed limitation to encourage clients to buy the ME-1. The sad thing is, it’s not working – I just feel ripped off that the single ipad limitation wasn’t mentioned in the advertising of the Qu-16.

I feel that I would be better off with a Behringer X32 producer or X32 rack. Their app has no such limitations, nor does Mackie, or Soundcraft or Presonus! Come on Allen & Heath, catch up!

True… It’s just so close – shame really, as it wouldn’t cost much more to implement the extra power. I’ve got a cheap & small Tapco mixer which easily powers headphones direct from the aux, so I thought I may have missed something. I’d love a ME-1 or 2 but they’re not cheap and if multiple iPads could be used then they wouldn’t be needed.

I had this same concern when I ordered my Qu-16. I knew my rack was big, but I wanted to make sure I could leave lots of the mic cables and aux outputs (as well as router) connected during transport. It just makes things quicker for set up, especially with in ear transmitters and radio mics. I’m glad to say it just fits! This is a Gator GRC 12 X 10 PU. Only £175 from Thomann. https://www.thomann.de/gb/gator_grc12x10_pu.htm

That’s interesting, I noticed exactly the same – but I like it as it means I can pfl my own monitor mix whilst mixing FOH or adjusting another band members mix. I guess having the option to choose would be the best thing all round.
